What a wonderful performer and teacher: Mike Dowling. Lovely tune on my dream-guitar.

This sounds like a classical piece that was put to a steady, brisk tempo and given some percussive and rhythmic techniques. It's very nice.

A beautiful arrangement, loving that El Trovador too...

I found this clip in a movie about National Guitars :-) That was the first time I heard about Mike Dowling. After that I bought 3 cd's and one of he's guitar note books :-)

By chance I happened to hear Mike Dowling play this beautiful song on The Prairie Home Companion years ago. It has been on my playlist ever since and I am VERY picky which songs I add. Seems like I remember Mike saying that Rosalie was an old Civil War tune, but his brilliant arrangement made it his song 100%. Mr. Dowling, Rosalie is a rare treasure and so are you!

They knew what good music was back in the civil war days...lol. This song has been an earworm for years. I finally ordered the book with Mike's transcription of "Rosalie"...now, I just need to buy a resonator guitar hahaha!!!

Mike is an amazing player and teacher! I have studied with mike at several summer guitar workshops and I can tell you he is GREAT. He has such control and tone that just playing a simple tune he can make you weep! If you have a chance to study with Mike don't pass it up!

So right Rick! I was at the Ashokan Acoustic Guitar Camp last week and took 6 workshops with Mike. Mike is a great player-singer and teacher! Mike played a slide solo during "Ashokan Farewell" at the camps conclusion. Mike's playing brought tears to my eyes. In fact, there were many teary happy good byes as that piece closed the camp.

Yes definitely get the CD! I have got the book, the CD and the DVD.Fair to say it's not for beginners but if can do basic fingerstyle then with practice and patience you should be OK.Some of the tunes are easier than others(Swamp Dog Blues)but others are virtually impossible--for me anyway! Good Luck!

As far as I know it's a old folk tune :-) I'll put in a couple of links in the description.

I just got his book with the notes for this in the hope that I will be able to play this in some years :-) Maybe I should get the CD too as you write :-)

Beautiful piece, nicely played, great audio set up! Love the sound of your National! What is the wood combo? Just bought Kenny Sultan "Acoustic Masterclass: Acoustic Blues Solos", awaiting its arrival from Amazon. Going through the pieces on youtube and this is my fav so far. I won't be able to do this justice but I'll tune down to this one and will certainly enjoy giving it a go!

What is this from? I'm assuming one of his DVDs or something?

Grab his "String Crazy" CD. Not to discriminate, but it's killer. Also "Eclectricity" is the best guitar/accordion record ever made. He wrote all (or nearly all) the songs. If you think you don't like accordion... you're wrong!
