I got ratings for Mike but at the end of the day I dont know why artist think they can promo their music or use a large platform that has taken years to build for free or without cost. The referred copyright from what I see only applies to youtube in this instance and has nothing to do with royalties you would otherwise recieve for i.e radio play via PRS or PPL. If an artist has properly registered a track with a publisher that money would would automatically go to the artist or lable regardless who uploads it on youtube. Tunecore, Distrokid and a few others have this service also.

@jameswhite83612 жыл бұрын
you dont register with a publisher. A publisher will look to sign you up so they can collect for you. i dont know much about sites like distrokid but they seem to be digital distribution rather than publishing. if you play other peoples music on your channel then you need the proper license from prs. KZbin, spotify, itunes etc all have to do this. Tbh though this isn't rare, alot of platforms like linkup ignore or twist round these laws to their benefit (or they are just ignorant of them) and they get away with it because most artists dont know their rights. I worked in music copyright for over a decade and this has always happened online, its like the wild west out here

This is the 3rd time already they do that. I own a record label, and this was on my record label page. We own all of our music. The interesting is, this time the claim was that they are saing one of our tracks has content that belongs to another label. And that they represent this label. The thing is, I know the owner of the label they claim to be representing. I asked the owner and he doesn't even know who Base79 is, and that this company has nothing to do with them or their distributor.

Fully hear what Mike is saying. None of these channels pay artists though. Not saying it’s right but that’s the reality of it. The trade off is the artist uses the channels popularity and subscribers and then the channel claims the royalties in terms of KZbin money etc. I don’t know law so maybe Mike has a point in regards to this because the channels might be playing on our ignorance of laws to make money on artists. If that’s true; then we need to be more clued up on how money works in the music business. Most up and coming artists haven’t got the resources of lawyers and teams at their disposal who know the law to better advice and counsel on how to tackle this issue of channels making money off artists and not breaking bread. It’s dad but since time immemorial people have been making money off the ignorance or vulnerability of others. It is what it is. I’m an up and coming artist so in no way am I saying it’s okay; just resigned to the fact that without the resources of teams and lawyers at your disposal, how does one combat this? Unless a body is created to better protect up and coming artists especially in this sort of way.

The artists who are crying are the equivalent to going into a daytime TV show like good morning Britain, knowing you get no appearance fee. Then when the show has better ratings than normal you feel entitled and start chasing down the production team for a slice of the advertisment breaks becuase you 'think you deserve it'... You now have free exposure to Britain and that is your payment. Exact same principle as a KZbin channel and ad revenue via Google.
