Those trailer jacks area cool idea. I'll be curious to see what you mount there, and why the jacks had to be upside down.
@MikeKapotsy9 жыл бұрын
Needs to be upside down because with trailer (tongue) jack, the lift mechanism comes out the bottom and he needed it to raise from top for his bench.
@iamjimgroth9 жыл бұрын
Mike Kapotsy Could you maybe have the lift mechanism follow the lift part up, so you wouldn't need the chain?
@MikeKapotsy9 жыл бұрын
Jim Groth Not with the type of jack he's using. The crank handle on trailer jacks is opposite end of the lift mechanism.
@defsdoor9 жыл бұрын
I would be interested to see if you do this with a single jack and a scissor lift that lifts both sides.
@iamjimgroth9 жыл бұрын
Mike Kapotsy Why would that matter? Instead of having a table top that you push up you could just push down on the ground. Since the ground will most likely refuse to move the other end of the equation will. Or have I missed something?
@txjack17873 жыл бұрын
I've not been through all the comments, but provided you keep the bevel gears on the same side of each jack, they should then move up and down in synch. The only reason you'd need to swap a bevel is if you unintentionally rotated one jack 180 degrees relative to the other. Otherwise, the same rod should pass through both in the exact same manner (bevels to the right, for instance) and all should stay in synch. Right?

I've always been fascinated with the concept of an adjustable height table. I've done several mechanical sketchups (manual operation, not powered), but never built them because I didn't have a practical application to justify building it. I'd love to see what you plan to do with this because it's such a cool idea. Hope it works out well for you, and a great start so far. Your engineering skills are impressive! Thanks for sharing.

Try building a table which have this height adjustable mechanism and also the workbench can be folded using folding brackets. It'll be great for those whose room are small or if you want more space!

I bought this for my friend for his birthday as we just moved into a new house and he finally has room for a workshop. The bench was very easy to set up kzbin.infoUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh They center support is a little difficult to snap in and out of place at first but at least then we know the bench is secure. It was a pleasant surprise when we saw it came with clamps. I apparently missed that in the description. My friend loves the versatility of the bench. Great starter bench for his workshop and easily transportable all over our property. I wish the bench was a little taller but the other features of the bench more than make up for that.

I really wish you gave us an example of the design and everything you need. for example with the jacks you need something to cut off the metal sticking out. you also have to figure out how to create a base. I really love what you created if you could show us the inner working that would be great. Thanks

You're planning to mount a tool on the middle shelf, and this is a way to bring that tool up to a usable height when you want it. Something like a planer. Or a Panto router or router table. that's my guess at least. Gonna leave it as drill powered?
@MikeAndLaurenTV9 жыл бұрын
wordsnwood My plan was to have it hand crank, but the crank I ordered was too wimpy. Then I saw the drill fit around the shaft, which made it much easier. I'll implement some sort of crank eventually.
@Wordsnwood9 жыл бұрын
Mike and Lauren Nicely sidestepped my prediction... :-) Forget the hand crank. Keep the drill. You can probably find a cheap drill at a yard sale or thrift store and dedicate it to this. Probably even a free one if you use a corded drill.

I would love to know more about the mechanism and the parts that were necessary to build it. I want to make one of my own, and have been thinking about using jacks, but couldn't figure out how to make them both move at the same time. Any advice in addition to what you have posted already would be amazing!
@MikeAndLaurenTV9 жыл бұрын
+Annette Sinanian Sorry, I just kind of built this as I went... and since the plywood covers all of the components I can't take any other pictures. What I can say is that 1/2" rod is what the jack companies use inside to connect their gears. So all you're doing is taking out their short rod and replacing it with one long rod that connects the two jacks.

Pete G I'm a huge Izzy Swan fan, yes. Although, my initial plan was to use a hand crank. I didn't think of the drill until the crank I ordered turned out to be too small.

@@MikeAndLaurenTV "the crank I ordered turned out to be too small." So you ended up with a cranky crank. Who would a thought?
@Billy-uc8eb8 жыл бұрын
For the others then my questions at the end..... I found the trailer jacks at Wal-Mart for about $35 each and the rod from Home Depot. Pretty easy to get the mech working. Just pull out the crank handles and move the cog (only on one of the jacks) from one side of the jack to the other, grind down a flat spot on both ends to accept into the cogs. What I can't find is the sprocket and chain bits to be able to put the motor where I want it. Can you tell me exactly what you are using and where I might by or scavenge the parts? Thanx for an awesome idea!
