That's an awesome video. I did the WFD in 2011 and won. The drumometer took my technique and speed to new levels, and I took a lot from Mike Mangini. I got to meet Mike in 2015 and we had a good talk about this. Guys, Boo McAfee still has Drumometers, get one! Trust me. I'll improve your timing and precision

He just explained exactly how to drum really very fast. That palm down method, (which he then shows raised a bit) Is how to engage and train your fast twitch muscles in you wrist. So instead of using your larger (slower) muscles, you use your faster muscles. Or at least everything in combination. I completely missed it the first time I watched this video.

This is a perfect example of the fastest musician not being what the gig needs. He is amazing but so is Portnoy - 2 very different approaches. I’ve been in positions where I had to try out musicians and 9/10 times it wasn’t the fastest drummer or shredder that I ended up going with. It’s all about fitting in with the rest of the guys (musically and chemistry wise), and serving the music… unless you’re doing speed metal, there are not too many opportunities to use that sort of speed in a musical context.

@@simonezangari1306 I don’t disagree that he can do that-unfortunately, DT didn’t use him in that way. But Mangini will be fine. He can focus on the stuff he wants to that DT didn’t want to use.
