Everytime Mike mignolas art gets faithfully translated into animation an angel gets its wings

I give you the pilot of Screw On Head, which is literally the one-off animated - with extra jokes!

Damn, we were robbed. I would have taken it a step further and made it even more in line with Mignola's chunky designs. Such an awesome video

Some of the Mignola's art style DNA did get carried over to the Thor: Tales of Asgard animated movie.
@mastaovdafist35515 ай бұрын
I would've scraped the animation all together and just make a comic! That concept art is beautiful!!!

"Ahead of his time" is right. I would have been so down for Mignola's Thor, if it aired alongside the X-Men and Spider-Man cartoons of the 90s. Ironically, Genndy Tartakovsky would later go on to a successful career employing a similarly angular aesthetic. Samurai Jack and Primal made especially good use of those bold, hard shapes and deep black shadows.

I greatly appreciate you sharing this with us. Mike Mignola has such a gloriously elegant style. He conveys so much character in such an economy of lines.

He's still alive and working.

@@CordellPotts yikes, I used a poor choice of tense on my comment. It has been corrected. Appreciate the feedback. No slight to Mr. Mignola’s health intended. 😬

Mike Mignola's style would be great if they were animated by Studio 4'C from Japan, because of their similar angular lines & styles.

I have to say, whoever did the color correction on this video was spot on. Perfect for Mike’s artwork.

The Mignola design aesthetic notwithstanding, the animation itself elicits two strong childhood echoes: 1. Alex Toth's turn with 60s Hanna-Barbera; & 2. (equally Hanna-Barbera) Mighty *Miiigh-TORRR!!!*

That animated clip at the end was painful. Not sure if it was the artists being unused to working in that style, or if it there was pressure to bring it more in line with expected cartoon aesthetics of the time, but either way mignola's work was almost completely lost in translation.
