Remember seeing Mike play this at a free concert he gave at the London Guildhall the day before Charles and Di got married in 1981. Taurus 1 was the first piece he played and when the twin drummers came in the sound went right through me. I was only 15 and I was hooked for life.
@garylove5475 Жыл бұрын
I was at that concert too. Given a long lunch break by a great friend and mentor who himself was a great music fan having been to Isle of Wight and many other hippy concerts. Guildhall a great setting for this track and remember watching MO’s total focus on a distant object as he got in the groove of the mandolin intro.

The Mandolin section of Taurus 1 is almost hypnotic.... I've been listening to this album since I was 6 years old... The year of it's release... Truly amazing music.
@maval45372 жыл бұрын
I was already nine when the album came out, but it had the same impact to me... at the age of 14 then, I learned to play it on the mandolin, even if I actually used to be a drummer🙂.

@coltsuperocean10 Why are you even watching a Mike Oldfield video at all, then? If you were a fan, you would know that his pieces (especially extended compositions such as Taurus I) unfold, progress, and generally become more interesting as they go along. Making a decision as to the quality of this music after listening to a mere 2 minutes is somewhat premature. Listen to the whole piece five times all the way through. If you a musical idiot, as it seems, it will take time to appreciate.

Ah! When Mike composed his best jobs. Delicious. Anyway I have a question: What kind of obsession do people have with Maggie Reilly? She's a great singer but neither so special as the most of people think. I suppose is the mystic aura she has.
@restojon1 Жыл бұрын
I'm not a singer myself but I was a working session musician back in the 90's and I worked with all sorts of people. I think that to a non musician, two major things would be at play. Firstly, she has a lot of clarity on her highs and warmth in the mids and lows. Note, when she uses her vibrato. That's very different to other female singers. Secondly, I think that it's how her vocals were countered against the harshness of Mike's guitar sound and at other times followed more flowing gentle musical lines and passages. At least, I think so anyway.
