Every team needs that one player - ultra confident, borderline arrogant. Someone who's never going to lie down and never believes the team is going to lose, that was Phillips for Wales. Always getting in the opponent's face and get under their skin. He never switched off the arrogance or the chat and always backed himself. Was one of the best players in the world from 2011 to 2013. One of favourite ever players, cheers Spikey Mikey.

As an Englishman, he was pure class. I think it’s a pretty close run battle between Welsh or South African scrum halves through the ages. Always manage to ruin English dreams either way.

Mike Phillips was one of the main reasons of Welsh revival after the 2007 RWC disaster. Tremendous player. He was Byron Kelleher and Justin Marshall combined.

Outstanding player, the physicality and flair he showed at 9 is incredible. One of Wales best 9's, just a shame his off pitch behaviour let him down.

1:37 classic Mike Phillips play. He did it all the time. I recently watched a Wales-France 6N 2006, he did 4 or 5 breaks like that.

Yes I'm welsh but I'm also a huge rugby fan and although Mike Phillips could start a full scale punch up in a telephone box on his own there was certain something about him. Its as if he could eek out the smallest gap whilst getting under the skin of anyone. he had that thing! In my book one of the finest just behind Joost.

I'd have Davies over Webb. Webb's slow at the ruck and on his feet. His supposed edge on Davies is passing and kicking, yet both are inconsistent and ball carriers are inhibited due to the aforementioned slow ruck ball. At least Davies is excellent in some areas and serviceable in others, Webb is poor in most and average in his areas of strenght

@@jacobfaughnan9795 im not sure where the slow on his feet things from hes fast for certain however when compared to davies or williams then yes hes slow but theyre two of the fastest nines about would say that webb has an outside shot for the lions next year which is a position more than likely gonna be dominated by the welsh

Best scrum half in Wales ever.... Know the old 70"s brigade will jump on that statement.... But the 70"s players were in the amateur era, more time on the ball.... This is pro era.... 70"s players would not compete... Except probably JPR.... FIRST name on any any Welsh all time teamsheet

The only thing I didn't like about Phillips was that his passing was slow compared to the other 9s, but he was a class player nonetheless

No he didn’t. You play rugby by the whistle and sadly the person who “cheated” as such there was the referee. If you’re going to pin it on any player it should be Matthew rees who picked a different ball up.

@@AndrewDavidForde the irish saw clear as day that he couldn't do that, the Welsh had to have noticed it too. Law 19.2 d (I think) you can only take a quick throw in with the same ball that went into touch. The original ball that was kicked went miles down from where Philips got the new one, he knew what he did.
