"Getting old is no fun, I got a hair in my nose annoying me badly" "So, how old are you? 1 or 2 inches?" As a German loyal to our last legal President, the Kaiser, I like those old pots. If I could choose, I'd take a WW2 Fallschirmjäger helmet, though. Doesn't have the same iconic look, but it's lightweight and comfortable.

Many thanks for the great film. I own an M1917 , but always worried about no washer behind the lugs. Reassuring yours is the same. Mines the star of my collection. Keep up the good work.

btw, i don't understand why they did changed the liner system that much when going to the M35, because, to be honest, the M1916's liner is both ok and very simple (main problem was the lack of occipital retention + the chin-strap, but that could have been solved without that much problem)

There was a Polish unit who used these during the invasion o Poland. They had to throw them away, because of other Polish units not recognizing them as fellow Poles

I agree with you too. I prefer the World War I version better than the World War II

Forgotten: The ,Deutsches Panzermuseum' made a Video series (6 episodes) about german wwl helmets, in german language.

Good point about the chinstrap posts- I remember when that happened! I'm sure it's one of the reasons Germany eventually got rid of them on the M18 helmet!

Yep. Made for some cool pictures, but I felt bad about his ear. Guess it was a decent learning experience, because if it happened to him just play fighting, I can imagine how many other people it actually happened to.

Vickers made a version of the 1916 for the Irish Army, the M1927. There are a good few photos of Irish troops wearing these on the web.

That sure didn't take long....I am aware, but the Vickers was quite different, and this video is about the M16.

I managed to get an M16 for $40 at an antique store because the guy sell basically all helmets for $40. The shell is undoubtedly original because it came with it's original liner in a plastic bag because it had fallen apart so much from age. I don't know how original the paint is though, because it is painted red and had gold swastikas on the sides. There is significant scrapes and chipping, so my guess is the paint is at least 50 years old, but other than that all I can guess is if the paint is original then it was either used in the 1920s political disturbances in Germany or it may have been Volksturm, but I have no concrete evidence that it's either.

I'd be interested in purchasing it, I collect M16 helmets. PM me if you are interested in selling it

I was expecting a 10 for aesthetics, I mean, its the coolest helmet. HAHAHAHA, they even inspired Star wars.

Wrong. That's a myth. They modeled Vader's helmet off of a Samurai helmet.
@brittakriep29383 жыл бұрын
This type of helmet is basicly a medieval ,Schaller/ sallet'.

They didn't use this helmet to model Vader's helmet...They used a Samurai helmet.

hey uh.... a few questions, hopefully they won't bug you too much, but here they are: I noticed that your Epaulettes have a red border, does that mean that you'd be part of the infantry, cause that's how it is for the hats, so I'd assume that how it'd works for the Epaulettes, also, what's the tunic model, and when did they get rid of the red piping?, cause I thought they got rid of it before the stahlhelm.
@MikeB1283 жыл бұрын
Red was used until 1915 officially as Infantry. Since all models of uniforms were worn throughout the war, you would see all variations of piping and uniforms until the end. This particular model is an M1910/14.

I'm into medieval helmets/armor too, but I prefer collecting "modern" helmets because any exant, even late medieval pieces, are museum pieces and very few are in private collections so, the only realistic thing is to get reproductions, problem is that the repro market is full of GARBAGE and even that garbage can get crazy expensive. I rather get more recent history that not only is original but there is more documentation to avoid buying crap.
