I keep coming back to this track. I am very proud of my arrangement on this. My orchestra sounds great and we recorded it in the much missed CTS studios.

I was so lucky to meet Mike in 1998. He was so nice and friendly. He signed my copy of this single and I got a picture with him. I will always remember this. ❤❤❤

For some reason I had completely forgotten about this song - no idea why. Loved it back then and still do, some 39 years later. Time passes so quickly. But this brings back wonderful memories.

I had this album in the mid eighties and loved Couldn’t Get Arrested. Somehow I forgot about this song which I am now addicted to! Very Genesis but with Gabriel’s soulful twist. I imagine Mike smoked two packs and screamed into a pillow for an hour to get that Gabriel vocal distortion. Well worth it.

If this song doesn't grab ya by the heartstrings I dont know if you have a pulse this is his underrated masterpiece

His voice is not as bad as people have made out over the years, yes he's not the greatest, but he certainly can carry a tune, it suits this song!

It was much better than I was led to believe! I was surprised actually. I think the only thing he really lacked was confidence. That's it. Because he actually has a really soulful voice.

Imagine an alternate Universe where Phil sang this song and it became an absolute classic played at every genesis show.

yeah v nice vibe, but what kills it for me is his unfortunate vocals, G Harrison should have sung it as he played the slide at the end.

First time hearing mike sing. He sounds like the singer from procol harum, the salty dog album.

My favorite song in this disk is Maxine (by the rithm). Mike tried to do a completely new style in this disk, that sometimes remember the group "The Police" beginning too. However, people who liked the last band didn't know Mike already, so the disk lose his time and probably fans in the history. The question is the timing to release, he was unlucky.

I was led to believe this album was not worth purchasing, specifically for his lead vocals. I listened anyway. Cuz I wondered what his voice was like. Ya know what? Knowing this from my own experience, the only thing Mike lacked was CONFIDENCE. Because he actually has a pretty soulful voice. Like, much better than I was led to believe. He has qualities akin to Peter Gabriel in his note selection, this is not far outside what Peter would do. Confidence is crucial. Cuz I can hear he's not sure of himself, and I know that sound, cuz I've heard it many times coming from myself.

Who else agrees that the ending slide solo would work well with 'Compression' (track left of off Smallcreep's Day), both in Db.

AH, yes - the one redeeming song from a, well, very strange, album. Like a reward for listening all the way through 🤣. (Actually, that is unfair - there are some interesting stuff in the strangeness - borrowing a lot from The Police (hardly surprising given the drummer.) But this is the standout track.
