We already have one of those apparently (according to some people)... it seems to be missing sizable chunks as the result of poor handling, I would guess. Did those entrusted with its safekeeping not consider it all that important? Regardless, any suggestion of an updated version is just asking for a world of trouble!

@@richardwendt9266 Act is definitely not the one driving a wedge into NZ society, that without a doubt is this maori party, this treaty and the deception of the Labour Party i.e sneaking policies through during covid and beyond. This treaty seems to have many interpretations which has left it open to manipulation and abuse by some, including the WT, which most New Zealanders have had enough of. Davids Bill will remove the Grey areas in this treaty so as to leave no room for any further misinterpretations, manipulations, misunderstandings or abuse and by doing so, will benefit all New Zealanders as it rightly should.

Hell no. ACT's policies would drive my partner's (teacher) income down $10 per hour. If we had this coalition in power in 2020, the effects would have been: 1. I would have lost my business based on the opposition to the COVID response packages by ACT and National 2. My partner would be earning considerably less in her teaching role 3. We would not be in the position to build a house like we're currently doing 4. We would struggle financially to feed our 3 year old child This coalition would have literally ruined our lives based on their policies.

The bill actually does have value because it has removed the facade of civility from the Maori Party for all to see. This also is showing the average NZer that the Maori Party does not want equality they think they have more rights than anyone else and everyone should bow before their temper tantrums....... They should be booted out of parliament like the National Front was for their racist behaviour and ideals.

We won't have our founding document which was an agreement between two peoples edited by one jumped up ambitious little twerp without any consultation with the other half of the pact. Principle 2: "If their rights differ from the rights of everyone.... Theres the twist right there - manipulated as seen fit by the crown or Mr Ambitious Seymour. Wont get him more votes at the next election because there are more thinking people in this country than fearful ones evidenced by the huge pakeha turnout at today's hikoi. democracy for it to be fair would look like this 120 seats in parliament with the vote being split up by 0.8333% of the vote per seat in parliament, if you have an NZ passport and are a registered NZ citizen you can run for parliament under any banner of political party or form your own. Democracy isn't democracy under the current setup its politically geared towards the two main parties, legitimate voters are drowned out and eventually their votes are reassigned to other parties. its not a democracy at all. Although i find Mike to be heavily slanted to the Right on the political spectrum on the odd occasion he comes out with a worthy insight albeit with a bias to the blue corner...

The British Crown considered the Numbered Treaties to be an exchange for the surrender of Indigenous Rights and Title to land, so settlers from foreign lands could occupy lands within the colonial territories that the British laid claim to. In return, the British Crown guaranteed First Nations certain Treaty and Inherent Rights in perpetuity.
@kayeclarke7561
@kayeclarke7561 7 сағат бұрын
First Nations that signed these Numbered Treaties believed they were entering a trust relationship with the British Crown; First Nations were to share and co-exist with settlers from foreign lands. Therefore, First Nations never agreed to the sale of their lands and resources. Instead, they agreed to share their Indigenous lands, to the depth of a plough, as stated in the following quote:

A bill destined for the waste bin is not worth the millions of taxpayer dollars that will be spent on it before it will be rejected. Fiscal responsibility? Obviously not. While you may be one of New Zealand's great intellectuals you seemed to have missed the whole point of the Treaty Principles bill. It seeks to sneak in short cuts for business interests (transnational corporations naturally) to bypass safe guards for public resources. That is, to make it easier for transnationals to make a profit at our expense. That is why ACT and sections of the National Party find the treaty so troublesome. It puts a spoke in the rape of public resources.

Presently, it is a PR exercise by the Maori Party. That said, in the last poll, 46% surveyed supported the bill, 29% opposed the bill and 25% weren't sure. Since National is going to vote down the Bill in the second reading, Seymour has wasted tax payers money, cost the economy money in lost productivity which doesn't look good for Seymour and his party who promotes him and themselves that the party is is about saving tax payer money and increase productivity to enrich the party's wealthy supporters.

@@spider-man910 Ok. David is being disingenuous when he says he wants equality for all. Contrary to what he says, many many people with experience and past authority are saying his bill will be damaging to both Maori & most Pakeha. These include former prime ministers Helen Clarke, Jenny Shipley & John Key (the latter obviously both being from National). They also obviously include the other opposition parties, TPM, The Greens & Labour, but I presume you will discount them. On top of all of those people, the Kings Council, the most prominent and experienced lawyers in the country have publicly stated how damaging to our constitution (ToW) it will be, as well as the Waitangi Tribunal (one aspect of their role is to screen for harmful incoming legislation). The protestors have the same message as everyone listed above. It will damage much of the protection the treaty enables for everyone here as well as environmental protection for the land.
