Faulty whistles from season six is basically a Duncan version of mikes whistle
@joshuariddensdale21262 жыл бұрын
Yeah. They probably did that as a nod to the books, since they stopped adapting the book stories after season 4 for budget reasons. It would've been too expensive and impractical to build new sets for the minimum gauge and mountain engines. But at least Rex, Mike, and Bert did finally get their screen time in Season 20, with episodes directly adapted from the original books. What I find odd is that Mr Fergus Duncan is still referred to as The Small Controller in the US narration, since the terms Fat Controller and Thin Controller aren't used.

I might actually watch them if so, if their voice actors and animators aren't too awful. By season 8, the narrators voices were so slow and pedantic, and delivered with a tone like that of a fake smile with a gun at the back of ones head, that I'd rather a computer read the story to me. That and instead of advancing a story with lessons between, they forgot the story, abandoned half the semi-new characters, and stopped developing them at all.

Clever idea for the passengers to whistle when they passed boards.

"There are boards saying "whistle." We mustn't pass those without whistling, that's orders!" They should've kept that line in the TV episode...

"Faulty Whistles" (the S6 Finale) was based on this, with Duncan being Mike and Peter Sam being Duck. The entire episode is made with Narrow Gauge characters. Also this is now an S20 episode, albeit more faithful to the story.

Mike looks like a smaller version of James.
@FlyingScott9 жыл бұрын
Geri Dupre not realy. James is an 2-6-0. Mike is a 2-8-2. James has a square firebox, Mike has a streamlined one. James' running plate is flat, Mike's one is with two levels.

+Geri Dupre I remember hearing somewhere that the Arlesdale railway engines were painted (in-universe) to resemble Gordon, James, and Henry. I believe the real basis railway is responsible for their illustrations in the real world.

This story honestly reminds me of Domeless Engines from Duck and the Diesel Engine, with how similar with what happens to Gordon and Mike. Gordon boasts “Domeless Engines aren’t respectable” and Mike making fun of Duck by saying “engines without whistles aren't proper engines at all". Only for karma to catch up to them and be mocked for what they’ve said.
