It's not even lateral at this point they have a young solid qb with his system installed and depth built. They are about to join a super conf that right now would have like 8 top 25 teams in it and 6 of those in top 10. Why would I risk a solid team coming in ready to go for a new rebuild with no guarantee that Dante comes or anything better from the portal.

However, I think recruiting the west coast now that the PAC has split up, many athletes will likely prefer to play in the B1G as opposed to the Big 12 for exposure so they benefit from that greatly.

I like Mike's idea and it makes sense. That is the fastest road to success if it works out and Chip comes with his QB. A number of MSU offensive players would not leave and would be excited to play in Chip's system. My gut feeling is that UCLA will have something worked out with Chip where they lock him up for at least the first 2 years of the transition to the Big Ten. Despite Urban's reputation I think most MSU fans would be the MOST excited if MSU could get him. He has said he is not interested as of now but don't be surprised if they get him in the end. Urban's agent may have put a "feeler" out there to see what the interest would be on MSU's side. Then you let people react and get a pulse on things. Then Urban says he is not interested...even though he would still listen to offers while gaging what kind of crap he might have to deal with from rights activist groups and whether that can all be smoothed over enough for him to take the gig. This is the classic Patomic 2-step. Show interest, then deny, then gage response, wait for other possibilities, and then if the right situation presents itself and the temperature is cool enough you jump on board. Fox is a good gig for him but if MSU offers 10 to 12 mil a year you are crazy to not take the gig...even for 3 years or so. Finally, I do think the coach at Kansas is very good. Maybe more of a safe hire but he is VERY good. MSU would give him a leg-up in recruiting and program building. But that hire is certainly more of a long-term play.

You can't win the Big Ten if you can't twin in the trenches. His linemen on BOTH sides of the ball were undersized overall and his lack of emphasis on defense always screwed him over even when he was winning at WVU. Speaking of WVU as great as Pat White & Steve Slaton were, that team didn't start winning the (weak) Big East until after Miami, Virginia Tech, and Boston College had left it.

Wow. Hope Mike doesn't have kids and teach them the same morals he has about an MSU coaching hire. To a point, decency DOES matter when hiring a person to lead your football team. It's NOT all about wins. I personally have never looked down upon msu as some "little brother", poverty stricken, poor university. But listening to Mike V go on about it has proven his unhealthy obsession and insecurity on that issue to me. Even mentioning the name Urban Myer reeks of SO much desperation and lack of decency I just immediately lose respect for Mike on this one. The only way Myer could be any worse of a person is to be a democratic politician.
