The climax of the scene is not when he kicks their arses or throws them out, it's when he goes to the bathroom to wash the blood off the pistol, and realizes he's not as sharp as he used to be: 03:58. It's a powerful moment, greatly underlined by the melancholic musical score.

This is just peak writing. Lesser shows would just make the protagonist - even if ill-equipped and inferior in terms of muscle - just overpower the goons without explanation "why". Yeah, he is just so wise, because he was a hard cop for yearsssss.. Trust me, bro. We get to actually see, how he was ahead of them and how he was aware of their presence. @@NorrisTheSpider totally - hate that. Lazy writing in so many shows.. Like Sherlock's sister. A one-in-a-century supergenius. If you consider the time setting of BCS and Breaking Bad (early 2000's) and Mike's age, his choice of clothing when he goes on his sniper missions in the desert- which is totally Viet-Nam era US special forces, I think it's safe to assume that the reason Mike is such a bad ass is that he's not just an ex cop, he's also a Viet-Nam veteran commando. That was always the impression I got, anyways.
