Lenox fought Tyson after Mike wasn’t really the same. He was a lot more stationary. A lot more reserved. Not nearly as much constant movement and ferociousness and he wasn’t in the best shape. Lenox still basically had all his stuff. It was just a matter a time till Lenox landed that good shot. Tyson had to be told to weight and readjust his timing; to throw his punches at the right time.

19:40 - The holding in the early rounds was a big part of the strategy of Lewis's corner. When the larger guy holds and leans on you over and over, it does a number on your stamina. Muhammad Ali talked about this and used it many times toward the end of his career.
@FFMM72 жыл бұрын
Unfair and lame strategy against a total untrained, shot fighter.This isn't wrestling. Otherwise Tyson in his prime could beat Smith who used similar shit strategy.
@Ricksta198112 жыл бұрын
Lennox probably would have won anyway but he definitely continued to hold Tysons head down with all his weight. round 4 at 14 seconds left Lennox hit Tyson with good shot then leaned all his weight on his back and basically pushed him to the ground. Round 8 at 1:47 He hits Tyson and the ref calls a knockdown. Before Tyson even gets to his feet Lennox hits him again while the ref is in-between them. THATS A DISQUALIFICATION in every rule book I've read. After all the political stuff I think we all know Lennox would have won the fight with 9 times out of 10 with proper refs and judge
@davebunnell11052 жыл бұрын
BS, Foreman started having flashbacks of Ali. He sees holding in his nightmares. "Maybe" the first round some holding, but once he was warned everytime Mike came in Lennox was either having to push Mike off, or he had his hands in the air showing it was MIKE who was holding. Count how many times Lennox had to put both arms up like he was being arrested just to not get another bogus point removed. This was rigged to help Tyson reclaim a serious contender status, unfortunately Lennox beat him to a pulp.

@@davebunnell1105 talking sense there mate, a rare thing on KZbin when it comes to Tyson fights. The problem is the "Prime Tyson" excuse guys literally have no idea what they're looking at when they watch a fight as they have zero boxing knowledge. They go on the biased commentary and are influenced by referees who should have gotten jail time for their criminal performances and the way Tyson performs when he's getting whooped eg headbutting Holyfield and making out he's being headbutted and crying about it or holding on for dear life and making out he's being held, honestly Eddie Cotton should've been banned from boxing for the performance he put in this night, shocking.

You exude boxing knowledge in your well articulated line of bullshit you put forth here but you appear to be approximately 180 out of the realm of reality. But don't let it get you down Mrs Lewis. I find it ridiculous that lewis was actually given respect of any kind for this fight. Ole Larry couldn't get off his knees long enough to see the fight, he was way to busy anticipating getting to swallow whatever lewis shot down his throat! much less share his pathetic insightful thoughts about the bout. Nevermind everything leading up to the awesome display of lewis's carefully laid plans to cheat his way to victory over Tyson coming to fruition. I coulda took that earth shattering punch that supposedly knocked Tyson down at the end of round 4! Listen to George just for a minute would ya? Beginning in round one! lewis embarked on a journey to drive Tyson to either lose it and get disqualified or to tire him out by forcing Tyson's head over so he could then put about 75% of his body weight on Tyson's back. He had little reason to be concerned about losing a point because he knew dam good & well that the tactic was gonna take it's toll on Tyson, which it did! George ain't exactly A punch drunk former boxer here. He knows what to hell he's talking about! lewis knew what he was doing. And had no problem executing his plan! It's clear that boxing wanted Tyson gone. My god man, listen one time to the most pathetic boxing commentator in the history of the sport. He was oblivious to anything lewis done! Mike had been fuckin up left & right in and out of the ring. That's uncontested! But but if I'm being honest. Round 5 should have been the round where he bit lewis's ear off on his way to grab sex stick commentator's ass up & bite his dam ear off too! There shoulda been ears laying everywhere on his way to the house! Mike got his ass beat by one & done or whatever his name was fair & square. But from the onset of this fight. I witnessed a hell of a fighter get done wrong as hell by his opponent! That dumb ass mouth sitting ring side & boxing as whole for celebrating such a pathetic chicken shit fighter! But,,,,,, I could be wrong about all of it. One thang I ain't wrong about though,. If lewis would have skipped his ass across the pond a little sooner? Mike would have ended his ass!

Lewis fought a great fight. He used his reach to keep Tyson at bay, while jabbing him into a new dimension. This accumulated points and set him up for ultimate destruction. Perhaps most hilariously is Tyson’s corner telling him after the 7th he had two hands and he should use them and that he had already taken Lewis’s best shot. …Problem was by that point he couldn’t hit Lennox with *either* hand and and just *kept* taking Lewis’s best shot over, and over, and over again.

Thats the teaching if Emmanuel Stewart. That 1, 2 style. Keep distance, jab, the right hand will start throwing itself, and when it does, the other fighter never see it coming because they've been eating jabs all night.
@brockgeorge7772 жыл бұрын
@@aikidoka00 yes. I think the jab is fundamental and it’s importance sometimes underestimated. Not only can you pick up points you might need in a decision, but these repeated blows are damage that can add up over time. Plus Lennox was taking no chances by combining this with leaning all over Tyson as much a he could, knowing this would tire him out and that he couldn’t do anything with the taller man leaning on him.

What a great era for heavyweight boxing. Hopefully one day we'll see it stacked again, but the heavyweight division today is pretty good. There's 10 heavyweights I'd love to watch fight each other or fight each other again: Fury, Wilder, Joshua, Ruiz, Usyk, Whyte, Ortiz, Joyce, Dubois, and Parker.

I have to give Lennox Lewis his props. He was the best of that era. I was a huge Tyson fan, but Lewis was just too good. That jab and that reach were insurmountable.
@rhgamecock13 жыл бұрын
@Jack Spade I hear you but I am not so sure I am buying that. I too thought Tyson was invincible until the Buster Douglas bout. Lennox Lewis is way better than Buster Douglas. Look at how Lewis handled Holyfield compared to Tyson vs Holyfield. That Lewis jab is second only to Ali's and I am not sure it isn't a tie there.
@rhgamecock13 жыл бұрын
@Jack Spade I do agree, however, that Ali would have beaten Holmes if both were in there prime. This is just not the same as Lewis is actually older than Tyson
@rhgamecock13 жыл бұрын
@Jack Spade I will agree that Tyson never was the same after the Buster Douglas fight and after Cus died. But, did you know that Lewis went to the Catskills and sparred with Tyson prior to turning pro (while Cus was there)? Both Tyson and Lewis have said that Tyson won their first match there but that Lewis won the second. I am an American and there weren't many bigger Tyson fans than me, but I am just calling like I see it. At 6-5, 245 with that jab and skill Lewis was a beast. I have Ali at 1 and Lewis at 2 right now.

Tyson didn't have that 'killer look' he usually had before the instructions. I know that doesn't generally mean much, but he almost looked intimidated. The larger fighter gassing the smaller, aggressive fighter by repeatedly leaning on him is a very old strategy. This is almost identical to the way Ali fought Frazier and many other fighters as he got older. Any boxer who uses it knows they are going to get warnings from the ref and even points taken away. It's always been like that. They just have to make up the difference with good shots in between, or knock the guy out.

@@daonlygoat888 Your 100% right about Tyson being way over hyped, but you top 9 list is complete insanity. Please justify Joe Louis and George Foreman being top 5. Is there any planet on which either one of them beats Lewis? This is really the general problem with all time lists, rose colored views of historical athletes alters perception. If we are being rational and honest, at 6'9" and 275pds with elite boxing movement, neither Ali or Marciano make it 12 rds with Tyson Fury. Lennox Lewis vs Fury would be a great fight, but it's hard to imagine 6'5" Lewis being able to get inside Fury's jab.
@lylegillean54772 жыл бұрын
@@SaltyGrub1475 Is that what Lewis did, just grab and hold him? Or did he keep him outside with his jab then knock him out? Fury has just knocked out one of the hardest hitters in heavyweight history two fights in a row. He also has 3 wins that are better then any in mike Tyson career. Nothing wrong with watching highlights, but kinda sad to D ride off em.

Emanual Steward has always been the best in my lifetime as a super coach. Perfect analyzer of boxers and boxing. When you get Loomis trucks of money for a fight that makes the world respect both fighters. Have a blessed life men. RIP emanual. Takes a certain heart of a person with God's gift to be a heavy weight. A time in boxing that was the best ever. Boxing wasmaleays my favorite contact sport growing up and they're just some great great fights especially when these two had opponents. There are no losers only winners. God bless you all thanks for the motors they passed when my wife died 3 yrs ago

I met Lennox once. I played his entrance music at a fight which lasted about 40 seconds. I was in a remote booth doing his music. He was a true gentleman. Came to find me with his entourage just to thank me and shake my hand. His hands were like a giant’s. He thanked me asked me if I was not too sad on how long the fight lasted, and then went to find all the people involved to thank them too. With his lovely smiling mum by his side as always. I’ll never forget that humbleness and still have the signed picture.

Tyson has a lot of fear in his eyes in the prefight ring walk. Sad to see him washed up like this. Not a true reflection of his early abilities.

I’m my opinion I think his downward spiral started when he met don king and don filled his head with useless rubbish made him angrier than he already was because it sold tickets, when he had cus and teddy atlas in his corner they cared about him and wanted the best for him then don came along and filled his head with racist crap about how he shouldn’t mix with white folk etc and stole all his money while he was at it

Rocky Marciano had a similar problem. Because their training was so intense, by the time they were 31, they were spent fighters. Marciano retired at 31, Tyson had the DQ to Holyfield a couple of days before he turned 31.

@@hairyplotter1121 You are so right. Cus would've never did Tyson dirty like Don King did. Yet, they played the race card and Tyson got bamboozled out of a lot of money. It shouldn't matter the race of a man but the condition of the heart.

At least the commentator had the guts to call out the bias...the ref was a total joke...anyway...the last shot of Tyson on the canvas bleeding from both eyes just about sums up the bout. Awesome display by Lennox Lewis.
@anesu8462 жыл бұрын
Tbh he was letting Lennox hold all fight and ruled a knock down that wasn't. In another fight that knockdown ruling gives you a chance to recover and in another fight you might have withstood the storm and the wrongful knockdown goes against you. No way the ref can call it in the moment

Mike was slow and anemic in this fight, probably the worst he’s ever done, 50% of his speed was there, zero aggression and limited bobbing and weaving that made him a menace for taller fighters. He just wasn’t into it at all.
