Shannon did a great interview with Mike Tyson but Mike was being humble and didn't want to throw the boxing organization under the bus he knows well as we know that boxing is at his weakest right now and Shannon got a point people rather watch a fifty-five-year-old come out of retirement and fight versus watching today's boxes in a trunk that is a problem Mike just did not want to say that
@austinmcgoldrick44362 жыл бұрын
Shannon, seriously this was a tremendous interview. You pushed and pushed, and paused, and clarified. Tyson wasn’t always super in depth in his answers, so you continued to ask deeper and deeper questions to get him to open up. Normally interviewers just ask a question and wait 5 minutes for the person to talk, you did a very good job Shannon. Nice work. Love the interview.
@vincentrandall58932 жыл бұрын
I don’t know if people really grasp how well Shannon navigated this interview. Considering who he was talking to and how it started initially. He couldn’t really push Mike and at the same time he didn’t want to agitate him that he would shut down. Masterful job Unc!

@launchsportscards98942 жыл бұрын
This is a very well conducted interview for the simple fact Shannon who’s as accomplished as any athlete in anything ever in reality, not once shined any light on that fact during the interview, which is not easy to do. Usually when you have 2 people who are or have been to the apex in their fields interacting it’s never usually a “I want to get to know this guy and for my listeners to get to know him”. Usually it’s one guy says I did XWY and the other says something like “that reminds me when I…..” Nothing wrong with that since it’s interesting but when a guy like Shannon can go the entire interview without any stories about himself and truly come off sincere in being curious about things he asked Mike and his answers it’s powerful to see. That’s the definition of respect for who your interviewing but almost more importantly a respect for his audience and the line of work he is in as a host. This was the first time I listened to Shannon doing his own podcast. As a podcast fan this was as professional, articulate, thoughtful, and well prepped I’ve ever seen in this arena. You can tell this was not one of those cases where someone books a guest and 30 min before the team hands the host a bullet point list and away we go. Being specific in dates of fights, who, what happened, etc shows Shannon was hands on every step of the prep for this. People have been commenting on how many times Tyson said “Mr Sharpe”. I think a big reason for that is Tyson who is a guy who remarkably remembers every fight he’s had and virtually every important boxing match ever in depth saw Shannon Sharpe didn’t book Mike Tyson for views. He booked him to create good content and have the best podcast. A video with a Tyson interview is going do well no matter what, so it’s easy to just have s fun talk about easy topics and things that are common knowledge regarding Mike. Tyson noticed it right away that Shannon booked him out of real curiosity and interest in asking him things for himself and the fans and prepared for Mike almost as if he wanted to make sure Mike knew he was not being used for views. He was going to do the best he could making the interview good for him, Mike and the fans by challenging Mike at times and knowing when to be quiet, follow up a idea, and when to move on. Look forward to hearing Shannon in other conversations so glad this popped up on my feed.

I noticed in interviews Mike starts out cold and then once he gets a good vibe from you the interview gets amazing. He just wants to make sure energy on good, imo its from his experience people who weren't good in his life. He had a lot of that.

Prior to this I knew that Shannon was smart and good at his craft. After watching this though I gained a whole new level of respect for your wit and skill level. You demonstrated that you know more than just rudimentary aspects of interviewing, you understand how to relate to people in a way that few ever learn even after much experience. That ability rests in the fact of you being able to adjust to the mindset of the person and you also being able to put your ego to the side when the interview is not going in a straight line or as you planned. Mike mentioned as Chess match as a metaphor for boxing but you conducted this interview like a master chess player in regard to the art of introspective dialogue. I can look at your expressions during this and I could tell you grew from this interview because of the challenges it presented. This was a great conversation between you and Mike. At some point I look forward to seeing you do a masterclass presentation on interviewing.

I love Mike. He is my fave all time boxer and why i feel in love with it. It hurt to see what happened to him but then how he has come back and the person he is now makes me so happy for him. The way he looks at things is great. Great interview Shannon
