It is true to say that Tyson, even in his prime had trouble with bigger Men with a good Jab. Lennox Lewis was a very good technical Boxer with a good Jab and a strong right Hand.However, he had no chin and a Fighting style that made him unappealing in the US! Lewis had success against Fighters who were typically, smaller than him. Anytime, Lennox fought anyone with real Heavyweight power and reasonable skill, He would get KOd! Mike Tyson would have absolutely, finished Him. The biggest knock I can pin on Lennox Lewis is, He had no Heart!
@soulveiw6 жыл бұрын
No chin? He went down twice in over 40 fights, most at the top of the game. This chinny nonsense from a guy who claims to know boxing is hilarious lol. Even a prime Vitali an even bigger man couldn't put a fat past it Lewis down. Mean while how many time did Tyson face plant? Not that I'm calling him chinny I just find this if you get KO'd you're chinny casual bullshit.

Lennox Lewis was a bit more polished than VK, Lewis had more Ring experience. When Tyson was in his prime knocking out everybody, Lewis and Holyfield wasn't even in the picture to be considered, let alone fighting Tyson. Tyson is a truly athletic fighter that didn't need a good technically advanced jab. Tyson is an ambidextrous power/speed puncher which is a very rare combination. Combine that with highly trained ability to dodge power punches and jabs, and combine that with the ability to take punches and you have a super fighter, and that is what he was. Didn't last very long, but that's the way it is. Not possible for Tyson to stay that way for consistent ten years. Life gets to you, regardless of how super talented you are athletically.

Lennox Lewis was building up to a fight with Tyson. He was fighting short guys to prepare. He fought Ray Mercer and was damned lucky to get the decision win. Because his coaches/management saw him struggle and didn't believe he was ready for Tyson, he took a payment to step back and try again at a later date. I believe it was a $3m payment. By the time they got around to meeting in the ring, Tyson had faded a lot and his life was crazy outside of the ring. Lennox was a great fighter also, but in their primes, Tyson would have won.

The reason Lennox was at the olympics while Tyson was turning pro is because Mike tried to qualify too, winning gold was one of his dreams, but he failed to qualify. He lost to Tillman. Due to the good abilities he showed he was given a second chance. He lost again. So no olympics for Mike. What a boxer does if he can't represent his country in olympics ? He can either search a job in a factory or turn pro boxer. He chose the second with the success we know. So no, Lennox is not inferior because he fought as an "amateur" while Tyson was already pro, it's the contrary.

The "prime time" of their career is important for any fighter, and that differs from fighter to fighter, all depending on their lifestyle, when they start, genetics, mindset, training regime, etc etc. Tyson matured very early as a top fighter, and couldn't last in that form consistently due to the effects of emotional toll being a professional athlete/fighter. Lenox matured at a much lower pace than Mike and continued a longer consistent pro career than Mike for that reason. One thing is certain though. Lennox in his prime wouldn't have had a chance with Mike in his prime. Tyson was a phenomenon, Lenox was not. Tyson was a unusual raw talent as a fighter, Lenox was not anywhere near that. We'll see many Lenox's coming and going, but we won't be seeing another Mike Tyson, same as we won't be seeing an Ali. These are symbols of history and they can't be recreated or appear in a frequent basis.

Wouldn’t doubt it, Tyson didn’t hold back in sparring and Lewis was chinny
@joejoyce99796 жыл бұрын
Okay so Lewis was chinny, But Tyson has treble the amount of knockout losses that Lewis has so what does that say about Tysons chin?
@TheMaster47x6 жыл бұрын
I don't claim Tyson had the best of chins either, but Tyson never got knocked out like Lewis did twice, Lewis literally didn't know where he was. The difference between Tyson's knockout losses and Lewis' is that Tyson you could see was getting worn down and tired and the stoppage was coming, not necessarily due to his chin but more due to his stamina, whereas when Lewis got sparked it was completely different, he got hit by one punch that changed the whole dynamic of those fights, he went from being well in those fights, looking good, to looking like a damn zombie. Lewis had perhaps the definition of a glass chin, he just covered it better than other guys with glass chins because he was actually a decent boxer and didn't get hit that clean too often. Also, your logic is flawed, Joe Frazier got knocked out twice by Foreman meaning he has the same number of knockout losses as Lennox, are you going to try to tell me Lennox's chin was as good as Frazier's because they have the same number of knockout losses lol?
@joejoyce99796 жыл бұрын
How many power punchers did Fraizer face? I can only name one - Foreman, and foreman blitzed him inside two rounds. Bounced him off the floor like a basketball. also Ali rocked fraizer several times, Lewis might of been kod twice, but in his other 42 fights he showed a solid chin, He took bombs from prime 6ft8 250lb Vitaly Klitscko that i don't think 205lb fraizer would've taken, he took hits from 245lb david tua, 230lb Shannon Briggs, 230lb Tommy Morrison, 240lb ray mercer, none of those guys could put Lewis down.

errol gasparini he was too mentally fragile to ever have gone down as the best ever. His work rate slowed right down once he was in with a boxer that could and jab effectively that wasn’t intimidated by him. Tillis and Tucker proved that. He won but he looked very beatable in those fights. He didn’t have the imagination to overcome Smith’s clutch and hold tactics, in fact he stopped punching and start instigating clinched himself. He looked great against fat/unmotivated drug addicts like Biggs, Tubbs and Thomas but he struggled against a big man that had a good jab, good footwork and most of all wasn’t intimidated. Look at the Holyfield fight in round 6, he gets cut and the chant of Holyfield goes up and the man stops throwing punches until he gets knocked down. He then threw his face into Holyfield in Round 8 I think it was to try and get a cut and get the fight stopped. If things weren’t going his way he stopped punching and lost confidence. He never came through a fight when he was taking big punishment, he was a great on top fighter. So even Tyson at his very best, put him up against Ali, Foreman, prime Holmes, Liston, Louis, he would have a period where it wasn’t all going his way and these guys unlike Tillis, Tucker and Smith would ruthlessly take advantage. Great fighter yes but he had that mental fragility that would have always stopped him being the greatest of all time.

Not true, Mike is my no1 favorite fighter ever and always will be, but he never beats lennox lewis, it took me years to admit that but it's true, lewis was too big and too strong (mikes own words) as-well as being very difficult to hit, he had one of the best jabs ever, as well as a brutal right hand and an absolutely lethal uppercut, Mike always got caught with uppercuts even in his prime and lewis had one killer uppercut. Tyson never faced anyone of Lewis's class before prison. He was even soundly beaten by james douglas, mike was not 100% in that fight but Lewis was comfortably a couple of levels above douglas in every aspect - Height, reach, Weight, Jab, boxing skills and power. Lewis was number one heavyweight of that era.

a tailor made opponent for Tyson would be micheal spinks, a small heavyweight/Light-heavyweight, lacking in punching power and absolutely petrified of Tyson, beaten before he even entered the ring. According to Big Joe Egan, Mike Tyson knocked Lennox Lewis out! Lol He said he witnessed this behind the scenes sparring session they had behind closed doors and this was when Tyson matured. He also said that Tyson was drugged up when he fought Lewis in 2002 and was a shell of his self, but this is common knowledge for anyone who's examined both of their careers, because everyone knows Tyson was washed up by the time Lewis got him. And it is true that Tyson was on medication during that time period,(Don't take my word for it...all you gotta do is look it up) but never any confirmation on it that he was on it for the fight, although he did look docile. As for the sparring session he witnessed, (unless he's lying about it, which I doubt, because it sounds pretty convincing to me) if he was there to see it, we'd have to take his word on it unless someone else comes out and gives a different take of what he witnessed. My closing thoughts is what I've always said that Lennox Lewis could of never beat the prime 1988 Mike Tyson, I've always said this. Tyson was too fast, and he would never let Lewis established his distance or jab because of his side to side head movement and his ability to cut the ring off taking away the jab and uppercuts that Lewis would try and throw and Tyson also was a good body puncher, so he would go downstairs and set him up with right hand and left hook counters to the body when he tried to shoot his uppercuts using aggressive counter punching that Tyson was great at and never gets credit for. Jose Ribalta can tell you, he fought the prime Mike Tyson and he also sparred with Lennox Lewis and has went on record giving his take on a fight between the 80s Tyson and Lewis fighting. I'm sure Jose never heard anything about this, but he's already been on record saying the prime Tyson he fought would KO Lennox Lewis. Lennox Lewis is a good fighter, can't take that away from him, but he's made more out to be than what he was. I would take Lewis over any heavyweight now, but when people say Lewis would be a bad style matchup for all the atg's and beat any of them, that I can't agree with. He would win some but he would lose a lot too. A very good heavyweight though. But he has no chance against the prime Tyson.
@johnyboy196856 жыл бұрын
Kenny Lopez while i agree lennox was a good boxer he was also managed very well quite a few of his opponents were fought when they were on slide down and past their best. He also lost to hasim rachman who wasnt a great fighter at all and on his own admission stated that he wouldnt have fancied taking on a young tyson. Most fighters have lost to someone at some time even the best fighters and it can be surprising who they lose to. In my opinion a 1988 tyson would have beaten lennox he was to quick too difficult to hit and punched in hard combinations lewis would be made for him. A later tyson with lottle head movement relying on one punch knockouts was made for lennox jab and use his superior reach let him yire and knock him out.

Never in the same class as Lewis, yet he knocked him unconscious when they sparred in their prime, younger years? Your reasoning is obviously flawed & lacking. Lol, Lewis beat a drugged-out Mike Tyson, & still only after 11 rounds (if he was really that out of Mike’s league, it wouldn’t have taken him that long to be a drug-affected Tyson, who was like 10 years past his prime). Not to mention that Oliver Mccall, a sparring partner of Mike in his prime, knocked Lewis out cold in only 2 rounds. Lol, if Mccall could’ve done that to him in 2, back then, just imagine what Mike would’ve done to him back then (as Mike already did knock Lewis out him when they sparred back then). Moreover, a prime Mike Tyson beat a 38 year-old Holmes in 4, while it took Holyfield to beat a 38 year-old Holmes on points after 12, why? Obviously Mike was at a different level, & would’ve beat Holyfield, then. Not to mention that Holyfield in his prime, which was midway in his career (when he faced Mike), was a steroid user; just look & compare his physique as a light heavyweight to when he was a heavyweight in the mid-‘90s - qph.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-c5c17e9c14f3b6218dc02291e9e81cdd - clearly he’s on ‘roids. “In June 2004 a patient named Evan Fields picked up three vials of testosterone and related injection supplies from a Columbus, Ga., doctor, traced through Applied. Later that month Fields also obtained five vials of Saizen and three months later returned for treatment of hypogonadism, a condition whereby sex glands produce little or no hormones. Investigators noted that Fields shares both the birthdate and home address of former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield. What’s more, when SI called a phone number on a Post-It note attached to the Fieldspatient file, HOLYFIELD ANSWERED.” vault.si.com/vault/2007/03/12/rx-for-trouble-inside-the-steroid-ring Not even top 20?
