Mike Tyson, the greatest heavyweight boxing champion since Marciano and Ali, and the singularly most tragic figure in the history of the sport. A man who had the world at his feet. A man who could have retired undefeated, and left Marciano's record in his wake. There was not a boxer on this planet who came close to Iron Mike. No - one who could have survived being in the ring with him. Until, that is, he met Robin Givens.
@truuguy10 жыл бұрын
True indeed! That was the watershed moment in his career! On the fore side of Robin, Tyson was the total package. Technically sound, fundamentally disciplined, one man weapon of mass destruction. On the aft side of Robin, he was an undisciplined, one dimensional, head hunting, drug addicted, brawler. It's seems like from Adam right on down, the downfall of most great men in history has been a woman! Tyson is no exception.
@bigdaddy406910 жыл бұрын
That's not true at all, Tony Tucker, Pinklon Thomas and even James Tillis gave him big problems, years before Douglas and Robin Givens and would of beaten him if they'd been more aggressive . . . . . . they're on youtube, go see for yourself
@RobRoyBoaz10 жыл бұрын
bigdaddy4069 C'mon Big Daddy. You could say that about almost any fighter. You know that. I know that. Youngest heavyweight boxing champion ever. The man was just raw talent and power.
@bigdaddy406910 жыл бұрын
RobRoyBoaz I absolutely agree with you, it's just slightly frustrating when people go on about him being the 'best of all time' and constantly make excuses for when he got beat. As Teddy bAtlas said, he was brilliant abut he was never great. He never pulled a losing fight around or dealt with adversity in the ring in a positive way. A 'Great' fighter can do this but he never had the strength of character.
@RobRoyBoaz10 жыл бұрын
bigdaddy4069 Good points you make, and I share your frustrations, but in my case, I genuinely believe he was destined for greatness. It had been a long time since the world had witnessed such awesome power, talent and, in boxing terms, dedication to a cause. It must have been incredibly intimidating to see Iron Mike in his prime come towards you from his corner, from the first bell. I often wonder if,now in his Forties, he wonders what could have been if he had kept his life together after D'Amato's death and if he had not got involved with the scum of the earth Don KIng. I think it will be a long time before we ever see another Tyson. Today's bunch would never have come close.

It would seem funny that Mike would be hateful of whites. All of the people that brought him down, from Don King who robbed him blind, to the chick who lied and screamed rape and stole 3 years of his life, to Robin Givens who basically ruined his career and also robbed him blind, were black. Cus D'amato , on the other hand, the one who took him in when he was a troubled youth, and taught him the skills that took him the pinnacle of the boxing world...was white! I don't think Mike hate's whites. I think he was just joking about white people the way many black people do when they are "alone" together...
