I remember watching this fight as a kid with my dad. I remember hearing my dad say "Man, Tyson is losing this fight" and just as those words came out of his mouth, Botha went down. My dad went from being confused and upset to being happy as he won 100 dollars that day from my uncle.

The style of Botha was very risky and dangerous, even from the starting rounds it was visible that he was playing with fire. The very quick and powerful punches of Tyson were not avoided by blocking with arms or dodging the head, they were avoided by simply moving his whole body, which was obviously impossible to do it perfectly for many rounds.

Tyson was trying to wrench his arm, that's what started it. I saw this at the time. I think it was Tyson's first fight since the ear-biting debacle with Holyfield and a layoff. He was rusty. I remember thinking Botha was looking to rattle him early with some of the rough stuff, get him to do something crazy. People say Tyson broke his arm with the wrenching maneuver. Love how he still shows respect even after all the dirty stuff--Botha was outclassed but game af.

The reality is that Tyson was a shadow of himself here. Rarely combinations, much slower, not closing the distanse with a powerful ending at all. Just dives in. And 2,5 years after this poor performance, he met Lennox Lewis. Mike Tyson was finished at this point. Only fought because of the money.

Holyfield was known to have a reputation for headbutting, having butted Tyson in 2 fights without the referee taking points from him. This, Tyson said, frustrated him like crazy as he was in danger of being stopped on cuts.
