I met tommy Morrison on the job in Atlantic city back in the early 1990's I was a blackjack dealer at harrahs casino. He played at my table in a disguise when I said hello he asked me to keep it quiet as guys were always challenging him. He was very calm and didn't bet a lot of money but seemed pretty normal. Other fighters I've met were bone crusher smith, vinny pazienza, get this Joe Frazier lived in my town. I remember watching Holyfield vs. Tyson, had a whole group of people drove hours to come see it. Lasted like like 5 minutes and ended in disqualification... Great fights, but not a great time for sportsmanship. Although I guess there was always a darkside to every sport, boxing just really hit a rough patch there. Not many idols to look up to, regardless of their talent. Also kind of sad his nickname was "The Great White Hope", I'm not sure it's touched on here since I've only started it, but there was a lot of racism back then and 100 percent that's what that title was referring to. A lot of racism today too, but it was very common from my experience to see people explicitly rooting for their race to win the fight. Which is just such a stupid, pathetic piece of of human culture. I didn't see the precision in Tommy that I did in Iron Mike, but that being said it isn't always necessary: Gene Fullmer beat Ray Robinson twice (plus 1 loss add 1 draw), and Sugar Ray way by far the more polished and precise boxer. I felt like Tommy never was the same after the Mercer fight. I think he sufdered actual brain damage. I was shocked he wasn't killed. I maintain to this day that the ref should have stopped it sooner. He was criminally derilect in letting any fighter take that kind of pummelling. To a casual fan ot would have seemed like a good shellacing, but I know a lot of boxing officials who were swearing at the TV by the time Morrison stunbled out of the corner, still taking Mercer's best shots to the head.

He was a really hard puncher, but he was never "the best at his profession". He was not even a top 5 Heavyweight at any point in his career. I loved Tommy Morrison, and was crushed when he lost to that asshole Ray Mercer. But I would never go as far to say he was the best. I do admit I would've loved to see a prime Morrison vs. prime Tyson though. I think a prime Tyson would win early because pre Douglas, Mike had a good chin, and could have likely absorbed Tommy's big punches or would have not been hit with his head movement, bobbing and weaving. I could easily see Mike putting The Duke down with one punch though. Perhaps an uppercut like he put Jose Ribalta down with or a devastating overhand right like he put Larry Holmes down the first time with. The difference is, Ribalta and Holmes, especially Holmes, had a granite chin. Tommy Morrison's chin was always like a fine piece of china.

The Gospel, which means the Good News is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. The one God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Son came and laid down his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. John 1:1,14 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. [14] And THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us, 1 John 3:8 KJV He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Isaiah 9:6 KJV For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and THE WORLD KNEW HIM NOT. John 3:18 KJV He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

You can only rest in peace in Jesus Christ. I never liked the term RIP because it deceives people into thinking if someone lived a good life, were a good person, did a lot of nice things that they would rest in peace. But the only way to be righteous before God is through Jesus Christ. He died on a cross as our sacrifice for our sins and drank the full cup of God's wrath for our sake, laying down his own life for us and was raised from the dead 3 days later. There is forgiveness of sins and redemption through the blood of Christ, the precious blood he spilt to cleanse us and wash us and make us righteous before God. Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven I pray you put your faith in Jesus Christ, believe, and give your life to him. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son so that whosoever believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life.

I grew up watching all of these 90's boxers and they either made it big or most got tangled in that downward spiral out of control. I remember watching Tommy with my dad.

After the defeat to Lewis a three-fight deal was signed (Don King) with Morrison having two tune-up fights and then the third being with Tyson, but that was when he was then diagnosed with AIDS so the agreement was shelved. Would have been good to see them fight earlier like in the early nineties but Tyson had his stay in jail, so the timing was never right. Had a Morrison-Tyson fight occurred it would probably be one of the most rewatched fights on youtube in this day and age.

@@MultiVeeta Agreed. Morrison was a beast but whoever thinks he wouldn't get leveled by Tyson in his prime is delusional.
@shiningphantasy1393 Жыл бұрын
@@MultiVeeta I don't know people claimed that Morrison was done after losing to Mercer but he worked his way back and put out some entertaining fights; as it relates to Tyson that hypothetical fight would have been when Mike's best years were well behind him and would have had the potential to be a good slugfest, even if it only lasted a couple of rounds or a little more. Morrison wasn't at the proper development stage to be fighting Tyson in the late eighties. He was out of shape against Lewis and not at his level, but most boxers aren't.

Mike would have had him begging for mamma and some more AIDS invasion in the first 28 seconds! Not that Mike would EVER fight someone so grossly infected by the disgusting, perverted plague! EVER! The Meds would have stopped as a TKO before they entered the Arena... dirty pervert that Morrison sold out to, fame and fortune caught him with the utmost, most dynamic right upper-cut he never saw coming (or should that be cumming?) What goes around (BUT, NEVER in professionally disciplined circles)! He got for cleanliness of humanity (poor wife) the best TKO ever!

@@brettthomas6400 Morrison first notable fight was in 1991 in January against pinklon Thomas his last fight in 1991 was against Ray Mercer Tommy got knocked out ! In 1992 mike went to prison when Mike got out of prison in 1995 Tommy got knocked out by Lewis same year Tyson fought McNealy as a tune up and went on and captured all three title’s again so it doesn’t look like he ducked anyone. Loved his fights, devastating punch but not the best chin. He took one of the biggest beatings I’ve ever seen in boxing. Nonetheless, he had so much potential but destroyed himself with a crazy lifestyle. Very sad story.

Had the pleasure of meeting him twice. Once in Virginia when he was training at VMI for an upcoming fight and he came in the Arcade I was working at and the second time in Vegas at the weigh in the day before he got his HIV diagnosis. He was on top of the world that day and it all came crashing down the next day. My father and I were at the fight the next day and they announced due to medical complications that Tommy would not be fighting. I found out on the news when I got back to L.A. where I was living then, about the HIV diagnosis. He was a true warrior and at least he held one of the main Heavyweight belts, even though only briefly. His left hook ranks among the greats in boxing. I will never forget what he said to me in Vegas the last time I saw him. He was to have fought Arthur Weathers as a tune up fight for Tyson. I asked him when he was gonna knock Weathers out and Tommy said, "As soon as he makes a mistake." RIP Tommy

I watched a lot of boxing in my younger years but I never heard of Tommy Morrison even after watching these clips. Without a doubt, he was one hell of a hard hitting boxer. Self indulgence and living a promiscuous lifestyle got to him, in the end. Fame was his ultimate downfall which makes this story of a young Tommy Morrison a very sad one.
