I grew up playing missions in video games with Mike V, usually theyd be the type that shows you how to push faster or do footplants in a line around the level, watching tapes and discs on how to skate (a couple that featured Mike V showing u how to do "beginner" tricks up to more advanced ones).. on some level, Mike taught me to skate the way I do and to this day my friends always credit me to be "one of the best skaters in our group" even though I cant do most the tricks they do- I just skate so much differently than they do. Even though he will probably never see it himself- Thanks Mike. I owe so much of my skill and passion to you and your legacy.

Mike came out to Boston around 1990 could have been 89 or 91. He skated with us in Harvard square. He was just as nice to all of us younger skaters as he is on this show. One of my buddies was just talking about it like last week. He was no celebrity or anything just a great guy there to skate with you. Mike, thanks for keeping it real. I'm only at 1:54 in and maybe the best interview I have ever seen. Thanks 9 Club thanks Mike V.

Being a 48 yr old and looking back on street skating in the 80's in the tri state area many of us didn't relate to vert ramp skating. When Mike V came along it was just what we were looking for (and to) as our inspiration guidance and progression. He was a genuine soul finger on the street pulse and was so on top of his game that it was a no brainer.

I remember reading the short interviews in TW and Thrasher when Mike V was burning out. I was perplexed more than polarized as a 12-13 year old. I knew nothing of what the corporate/adult world could do to someone’s energy besides being chased out of skate spots and having my board taken away by cops and school faculty. It was easy to grasp as a kid but Mike was a hero it just didn’t seem possible so judgement was reserved. Now I see he was just like us. He found skateboarding and vice versa and went so far so fast that there couldn’t have been a smooth ride all the way. There was such a huge amount of energy arriving in skateboarding that individual timelines in this era are all really important - as time goes by and the Internet saturates all corners of our activities, these stories will most likely become unavailable or at least more difficult to reconstruct. Thanks to Mike we can apply this story to skating and lots of things in general - this is a wild story and all of us who threw ourselves at the ramps and pavement in that era and anytime before or since should remember that this type of thinking is what makes skateboarding and basically what’s left of this rideable world so great.
