Y'all probably know this but Mara (Morana, etc) is the Slavic goddess who takes your soul in the night by frightening you to stop you heart. In Slav language (I don't know about all but Czech, Slovak, Russian) a terrible dream has the name Mara I. It. She's the goddess of winter and in Slovakia and Czechia they make a big doll of her and drown her in the river to bring on the spring. Not sure how much it's done today but it's a tradition.

Yes, Mara is actually one of the names for ancient Slavic goddess Morana/Morena/Marzanna, winter goddess. In old Croatian folk songs you can still hear about her exploits in attempt to seduce Ivo (actually Yarilo/Jarilo, young god of vitality, spring). In Indo-European languages Mara, Mor, and variations on these are root words for "death", so it isn't surprising that she (Mara) assumed the role for both ruling death and winter.

I got this album a few years back and haven't regretted it. Arkona are my favourite Russian band, folk/black in style and Masha is a force of nature, but I also like older Alkonost a lot - Birdship or Night before the Battle

В славянской традиции нет чёткой структуры божеств и духов, ту что потом придумали поляки в 17-19 веке не стоит ни гроша, как и сами поляки и тогдашние и сегодняшние, они там что-то бесконечно удревняют сближая себя-то с германцами, то с балтами, но это переферия славян, к тому же в севернорусском имеются имеются если не теже рефлексы, то древнее, и нет это "рж- ж", тьфу! Был создан пантеон до принятия христианства и вот он никак не совпадает с его новопольскими, прагерманскими, и классическими греческими выкладками, скорее имеется некоторое сближение с разношёрстными иранскими языками, но не дословно, и потом они уж очень разношёрстные, походу славяне, балты и германцы последние кто отпочковались от массива индоевропейских, но германцы славянам не близки от слова совсем, мы развивались в разных традициях и окружении, и походу германские это пиджин с доиндоевропейским населением, что видно и по лексике, и по умиранию падежей, и по этим законам Мура, это пиджин (в нацисткой идеологии германцы это приблизительно то, что из себя представляют все индийские языки, какая-то полуиндоевропейская хрень)))) В чём трагизм этой песни, а то что дух не может различать наше понятие о добре и зле, он им поигрался и решил оставить себе.
