Avi usually gets placed in the Americana / Folk genre. Avi has said he and Joy wrote this song in about four hours the day they initially met in their producer’s office. Check out his most popular (to date) song “Change on the Rise”. His latest release is “I can’t Lie” (has a distinct 70’s vibe) and is on many streaming charts. Other faves of mine are “Quarter Past Four” and “Otherside” but I honestly love all of his music, because his voice is so calming. Re: Pentatonix, yes, he sang bass with them but also sang lead on “Standing By” and “Light in the Hallway”. He is very versatile and can sing pretty much anything.

The best song from Pentatonix is Hallelujah where Avi sings in both baritone and low bass. That was recorded in his last year with the group.

To really appreciate Avi's full vocal range, you should hear his duet with Peter Hollins, "Black Is The Color Of My True Loves Hair". Avi's vocal range is amazing, and Peter has a beautiful tenor voice. Other songs by Avi you should check out are "Change on the Rise" (definitely NOT country). "Full Moon" which is hauntingly beautiful, and his newest release "I Can't Lie", which has a great 70's vibe and up beat tempo. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of Avi's music. I've been a fan since he started with Pentatonix. I'm 68 and I have the same reaction as Ginger every time I listen to him, even if I've heard the song 100 times. He just has that affect on you. Avi's voice and music touch your heart and soul. Hope you react to more of his songs. 💖Avi !

Isn't it amazing how two very successful artist that came from two very popular bands, Avi from Pentatonix and Joy from The Civil Wars (Joy won 4 Grammy's while performing with John Paul White as part of The Civil Wars) now come together to write and compose this masterpiece. They harmonize so good together. I could see this song winning a christian Dove Award. I really miss The Civil Wars, their music is so good, especially the song Barton Hollow, maybe you guys could do a reaction to it...

It is more folk/Americana than Country. I do not see it as devotional so much as reassurance that while you are going through good or bad times (heaven/hell wherever I go), your soul (self) remains whole. You'll get through it. Avi has written many songs about mental health struggles, depression and anxiety. To me this is another one in this category and it resonates with me on the deepest level.

Try "I Can't Lie" that one I don't think you would consider country at all. You probably don't recognize Avi because he was the Pentatonix bass singer and he did not usually get to sing melody or higher in his vocal range. "First Place I Go" that you also reacted to was sung much lower by Avi. Avi Kaplan is Jewish and I am not a Christian either so I relate to it, as to alot of Avi's music, as connected to mental health and in this case overcoming depression. The reason he left Pentatonix was due to touring burnout which is a serious music industry problem. He took a couple years off from performing entirely although now he is touring Europe and will be in the USA shortly as he gets ready to release his debut solo album "Floating On a Dream" on May 20th.

Unfortunately Pam comments alot to new reactors claiming unusual religious beliefs for Avi that he has never stated or inferred. Then the reactors don't listen to him again. He has stated in numerous interviews that he is Jewish and his religious education ended with his bar mitzvah. Regarding his ethnic background he stated this recently - "My heart is heavy. This past week I have felt utterly powerless in all that has gone on in Ukraine. My family on my father’s side immigrated from Ukraine. They were mostly from Kyiv. I have Ukrainian blood running through my veins and I am truly proud of that. What’s going on there is unthinkable. No humans should have to fear for their lives. No humans should have to fight for their freedom. My heart is with Ukraine. I #standwithukraine . I have been doing research on how best to help the people of Ukraine, I hope you will join me in helping in any way you can. Even if it’s just to spread awareness, every bit counts. Joy was raised by a pastor father in California and began her career writing and singing Praise and Worship music. You probably know her from the duo, Civil Wars. They garnered 4 Grammy's while they were together. Avi was raised by Messianic Jewish parents in California. His father was P.E. teacher in a Jr. High School and his mother stayed at home with the children. His older brother lives in the Galilee, Israel and his sister was the tour manager for Pentatonix for several years. He completed his Bar Mitzva and has some religious undertones in many of his songs he has written. In fact, it was the Rabbi who worked with him during his studies for his bar Mitzva who informed him that he had a great voice. He holds 3 Grammy's from his time with Pentatonix. I would say the word "devotional" would be a great word to describe All Is Well.

@Pam S Carr. I’m surprised you should say that. I understood that Avi’s mother is Christian and he himself has no religion. Avi has also stated that his voice broke during the school summer break and when he went back, his school choirmaster was excited to hear his ‘new’ voice. I certainly have never heard any religious undertones in his music - if there is are any recurring themes, they are ones of his struggles with his mental health and his connection with nature. That’s where his spirit lies.
