great video! I have a 2018 Mazda 3 with the 2 liters engine. Somehow I managed to pour about 4.6 quarts which is 2 quarts more than what the the manual calls for (4.4 quarts) in order for the oil to reach the max line on the dipstick. I don't know if the manual capacity is lower than what's real, or the dipstick is wrong. I also noticed you get a lower reading when you do what the manual says, basically after you normal commute (when the engine reached normal operating temperature), you wait for 5 mins or more, and you check the reading. If you check the reading one day after you parked the car when the engine is completely cold, the reading is higher, like at least 1/3 higher than the length between the min and max line.
@Mikeattempts5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think the 2018 Mazda6 calls for 4.8 quarts, including the filter, but I have to use 5 quarts to reach the full mark on the dipstick. Maybe Mazda just measures their capacity exactly between the min and max marks? Who knows. :) Thanks for watching!

Does the car give a notification for service? If you do this yourself, are you able to reset the service tracker on the car?

Yes and yes! A yellow wrench lights up on the dash when maintenance is due. You can see what maintenance is recommended if you go to the Home Screen > Vehicle Status Monitor > Maintenance > Scheduled Maintenance. You can also reset the Maintenance Monitor in that menu which will turn off the yellow wrench. You can also reset it manually by pressing the illumination knob on the instrument panel then start the car while continuing to hold the button for 5 seconds until the triangle warning light flashes to indicate it has been reset.

Why my 2018 Mazda6 oil change warning doesn't go off?
@Mikeattempts3 жыл бұрын
After an oil change, you'll need to reset the Maintenance Monitor. There are 2 ways to do this: 1.) Reset it manually by pressing the illumination knob on the instrument panel then start the car while continuing to hold the button for 5 seconds until the triangle warning light flashes to indicate it has been reset. 2.) Or go to the Home Screen > Vehicle Status Monitor > Maintenance > Scheduled Maintenance and reset it there.

Can someone fit under the car and do this job without a jack and stands?
@Mikeattempts3 жыл бұрын
Maybe a small child but then they wouldn't have enough upper body strength to remove the drain bolt. ;) Just kidding! No, you can't really fit under the car without lifting it. You could use the scissor jack from the trunk and just lift up the front side closest to the oil pan but you'd still need one jack stand. Or you could use some of those car ramps that you just drive the front wheels on to. But, if you're gonna change your own oil, you should have a jack and jack stands. They give you a lot more versatility for other maintenance, especially when dealing with your wheels. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to rotate your tires, which you should do at least every oil change. Thanks for watching!

While you're under the car, can see where you replace the transmission fluid & filter when need be?
@Mikeattempts6 жыл бұрын
After we bought this car, one of the first things I did was look through the manual to get an idea of the maintenance schedule but I couldn't find anything about the transmission fluid replacement interval. I checked Mazda's site and was pleasantly surprised to find this: "All Mazda vehicles equipped with SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY have lifetime transmission fluid that only needs to be changed when a major transmission component or the entire transmission needs replacement". Pretty cool, huh?

Do we need to change the bolt drain with every time we change the oil?
@Mikeattempts4 жыл бұрын
There's an aluminum crush washer that goes on the bolt and creates the seal. I've found that these washers can usually be reused once. However, they're so cheap that, if you have a new one on hand, you might as well replace it. Here's a pack of 25 for less than $6: amzn.to/3dMg8QE

Thank you and good job but I believe you torqued the drain plug down way, way too tight. Specs call for about 25 ft. lbs. By bracing with your foot and putting your body weight into pulling on the wrench you probably pulled 50 - 75 lbs or more.
@Mikeattempts6 ай бұрын
I only braced myself against the wheel so I wasn't shifting the weight of the car on the jackstands. I tighten the drain bolt just enough to feel the crush washer crush a bit. I've done it with less force in the past only to hafta get back under there once I realized it was dripping. But, I agree, the worst thing would be overtightening and snapping the head off the bolt or messing up the threads.

@Mikeattempts5 жыл бұрын
I didn't specifically recommend oil or a filter in this video because people are obviously free to use whatever brand they prefer. All oil must meet or exceed API standards. Just because some oil costs more doesn't necessarily mean it's better, sometimes you're just paying for the name. As for the filter, there are much worse options. From what I understand, WIX makes SuperTech filters.
@elvistwatty5 жыл бұрын
You literally are judging.
@buffhorses5 жыл бұрын
I mean the oil and filter are alright for 3 to 5 thousand miles. Wix make super tech filters, and the oil is made by Warren which almost every other oil at wal-mart is too. I wouldn't be doing super long change intervals with it. Some people just like changing their oil more often than others.
