That was very educational and a treat to see, many thanks! I have a mini grinder not working. Saved from the dumpster. Wonder what it could be? Most likely a loose contact as it does not look used. Please save your hands. You will find as you get older your hands turn arthritic from overuse, esp the right hand. For this job, you would have been better off doing a sand blasting to remove the gunk instead of wire brushing. That angle grinder vibration does a number on the hands. I'm going tos set up a sand/glass bead/ soda blasting station.
@Mikeattempts2 күн бұрын
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah, a sand blasting cabinet would be nice but I an angle grinder was my only option. If you end up buying a sandblasting cabinet, let me know which one you got. Hopefully the issue with the bench grinder you found in the dumpster is something simple like loose wiring or the switch, let me know how it goes. Thanks for the comment!

Sorry to hear about your dad. My first car was a 1970 Opel Kadette Wagon (bought in 1979)and the second car was a 1973 (bought in Aug 1981)OPel Kadette Wagon. I loved them both. It's interesting to see that your driver's side rrear wheel was locked. My 1970 opel had that issue too. When you engaged the parking brake, the shows would not always retract. I would have to remove the drum and get the shoes to retract. I tried to not to use the parking brake. It was funny how you did not notice the ring that you pull up to put it in reverse. GM used that ring many of it's brands, including the Daewoo I bought in 2002. I would love to own anther Opel.
@Mikeattempts2 күн бұрын
Hahaha, yeah, I felt like an idiot once I realized that ring existed. All of my vehicles have had a manual transmission since I got my driver's license but that was the first time I've seen a reverse lockout. Oh well, now I know! :) Thanks for the comment.

The black stuff is carbon. That's what a 4 stroke engine looks like when it's oil ring is gone & begins burning oil. I assume the piston ring got stuck due to carbon build up perhaps the person was using the wrong oil, as i use a rich mix (has more oil than required running 25:1 rather than 50:1 simply due to the fact of not wanting different containers & using the wrong one)
@Mikeattempts5 күн бұрын
It was slightly tacky feeling, so I think maybe the previous owner used bar oil instead of 2-stroke oil in the fuel.

@Mikeattempts5 күн бұрын
The race that you hafta cut off of the shaft is half of the inner race of the old bearing. It's designed to split during removal. The new bearing already has everything you need. So, after cutting off the old race, just press in the new bearing then press in the hub.

As long as you have a strong enough vacuum, I think you'd be surprised what it can pick up. Grab some peat from the gutter and if your vacuum can suck it up off the ground, you should be good to go.

Always nice to get old nailers for free or cheap and rebuild them. I have a Senco SN325 I rebuilt and was amazed at how many o rings they use in the trigger, about the same amount as in the rest of the gun. It is a great nailer. I also own 3 Paslode 5300 Plus nailers, also great guns. When rebuilding them their is only one o ring in the trigger and that is only to seal between the trigger and the housing. Complete it only has 10 o rings. I really like both of the older nailers from these companies. Thanks for the video.
@Mikeattempts11 күн бұрын
Yeah, from my limited experience, air tools are pretty easy to repair. I agree, the Paslode nailers I've worked on do have a simpler design. It's nice that rebuild kits are still available for these older nailers. Thanks for the comment!

That small press brake looks interesting. I wonder if I could get or make an attachment for my 12 ton press. I don't bend much sheet metal, so I usually do it in the vise or with pieces of angle iron.
@Mikeattempts13 күн бұрын
The company I bought the press brake from makes 'em for both 20-ton and 12-ton hydraulic presses. I bought the kit and welded it together myself, but they also sell 'em fully assembled. Here are their 12-ton brakes: www.swagoffroad.com/collections/12-brakes
@BrucePierson13 күн бұрын
@@Mikeattempts Thanks for the link. I checked it out and watched the video. Considering the price and how heavy duty it is, it's way stronger than what I would need for the odd sheet metal bending job. Later, I might consider making an attachment if I find the need for it. But the design will be a useful guide if I do decide to make one.
@BrucePierson13 күн бұрын
Handy having a metal bandsaw. I only have a wood bandsaw which I've barely used, so I doubt that I would have a lot of use for a metal bandsaw anyway. Besides, my metal shop is only 100 square feet and set up nicely for my needs, so no room for a metal bandsaw anyway.
@Mikeattempts13 күн бұрын
Both the bandsaw and the bench grinder attachment were a bit pricey, so it took me a while to talk myself into buying them. I'm glad I did though because I use them for almost every project. I made a wall mount for the bandsaw, so it hardly takes up any room at all. And, if I need to use the saw elsewhere, it's lifts right off of the mount.
@BrucePierson13 күн бұрын

It finally gave up the goose yesterday so I’m at it today swapping the cord. I’m not exactly sure amperage (can’t find any info online or on machine) so I’m not sure what gauge cord to replace with.

I would error towards higher gauge wire, just to be sure. You should be able to strip the old cord and get a good idea of the size that way.

I had to fix a shaft with threads, My file did not have the correct thread count. I had a extra nut that was correct. I sawed one side of it open, ran a tap down it to clean it up. I used a drill bit one size larger than the shaft and drilled out 3 threads of the nut. The shaft could then get started straight and acted as a adjustable die. Finished it up with a actual die and the threads were great when done.
@Mikeattempts18 күн бұрын
That's a great tip, thanks! I've done something similar by cutting a couple vertical grooves in a bolt with an angle grinder, using the thread file to clean up the edges of the threads, and then using the modified bolt to clean out a threaded hole.

I decided I just had to have a camera mounted on mine (otherwise built pretty much to this spec - except very little use of glue in favor of removable rivets). I found an $8 mini spy camera on AliExpress and had it setup in no time. It streams video directly to a cell phone - without even using my wifi router - and I got a wrist strap mount so I can watch easily but still have the use of both hands! So now I can see how things look and if I missed something. I thought this was cool before. Now I have taken it up a notch!

IMHO, it would be worth showing how to remove the feed rail to clean it without the feed guide attached. Behind the quick-open nose, there are two allen cap screws going back into the rail. On my roofing stapler, I could JUST get the allen key on the top of the two of them with the nose swung all the way open. The bottom one was no problem. Additionally, if youre putting the feed mechanism back on the body with the rail still attached, its probably worth putting the guide support strut (connects down near the air fitting) in order to support all that while reinstalling the nose to the body. Takes quite a bit of fiddle-factor out of getting everything lined up and flush.
