Even though we are in the twilight of the milsurp era, I will say there were still gems to be had up to the end that didn’t exist early on. Namely the T54 and M57’s that you showed in the video, how thrilled I was to see tok pistols that only needed a trigger swap to be in an original configuration.

I started collecting in 2016. A little behind the ball but in the years since, I've had fantastic luck in pawn shops and little "hole in the wall" shops both in my area and while traveling. I picked up a Standard Products M1 Carbine in Sep.2019 for $200, a CZ82 for 210 in Nov.2020 and a Ruby earlier this year for $155. Patience and a willingness to actually search goes a long way. By the way, I love your videos. Happy hunting!

When I got my C&R in the early 2000's, I set my sights on a Carl Gustaf M/45 "Swedish K". They were around $1600 at that time. I couldn't afford it, so I never got one. One just sold at auction for $60,000...

The M1911 market is just nuts. I've always wanted one but not for $1500-$2000 that people are trying to sell them for on Gunbroker. What really gets me is when CMP released a lot of M1911s that were refurbished not that long ago they all disappeared really quick and ended back on Gunbroker for twice the price.

Not true at all. You'll be paying the going-rate for all of their firearms, just like people have been for years. They've been dying for decades, and won't all die at once. I made an entire video debunking that sort of unrealistic "wishful thinking". The internet exists, and as long as it does, you're never going to see the prices of the "good ol' days".

Prices go up. And unless the market gets magically flooded with more, then we will never see the old prices again. You can either buy what you want now or wait until the prices go up even more.

Ya, I paid $400 back in the day for a shooter grade M1 Garand, $200 for a Mosin nagant m38, $100 for a Star super B, $200 for a all milled yugo mauser. Prices have definitely gone up I feel bad for all they guys just now getting into military surplus.

Good video Mike. Funny I don't remember most of those ever being that cheap in 2012 . GB and ebay completed listing is where I always tended to look for values . I do remember looking at svt40s in the 900- 1000 dollars range on GB range and regret I didn't bite the bullet and buy one back the or the $600 Rasheed. These were always my favorite type vids you do Mike!

I have two Tokarevs. I have a Russian TT-33 made in WW2 and then refurbed at the factory at some point. All matching, no import marks. Then I have a Polish Circle 11 Tok. Love them both, They're some of my favorite pistols to shoot and I think 7.62x25 is an awesome round.

Love my FEG High Power. Snagged mine right on the money as you listed for 400 dollars in a private sales. Still pricey but compared to an actual High power its way better in price and ya still get a pretty good gun despite it being a clone. Mine was part of the Hungarian police department back in the day so thats some cool history to it.

I started collecting milsurp handguns about 3 years ago. I am a "boomer" so of course, naturally I remember passing on hundreds of deals decades ago because I only bought new or newish back then. My mistake. Now I buy milsurp at gunshows and from individuals because gun stores rarely have them. I have only bought one off the net so far because by the time you add shipping, tax, and ffl fee it's many times not a deal any longer. This is an awesome video because it reminds me of what all is out there and what the ballpark cost should be. Mike B just moved way up on my list.

I am the last of the Boomers. I do not have tendencies nor do I personally know of other 'Boomers' that display the lack of intelligence, insight & firearms historical knowledge brevity that you seem to suggest. I was full-time gun dealer for most of 28 years prior to 2005. I say the largest portion of 'Boomer' gun owners had complete collections for the most part before 2012. I sold a LOT of mil surplus between 1995- 2004. Most went to young adults & college age. Hope a few were smart enough to have kept them. Interesting video even with editorial. Carry on.

I'm a shooter, I love the 92 fs platform. I spent thousands of rounds training my finger for the heavy first pull and then the subsequent lighter next pulls. I love how it bucks backward into my palm in a way no other 9mm does. That said, when I first got over my pissed offedness from being told my entire life the 1911 was the best thing since sliced bread... I bought a rock island in 9mm and 45 because they are affordable and are basically colt 70 series. I exchanged the internals with colt gold cup trigger and hammer parts. I tuned the extractor, added a beaver tail and some harret wood grips, de horned it, I have owned a colt commander that was custom shop dehorned, I used a valve grinder to achieve what I think are exactly the same out come. I bought a jig and some checkered files and did 20 lines per inch checkered on the front of the grip frame. Beveled the mag wells a little on each and tuned the springs. I also added a few handmade brass washers to fix tolerances on the beavertails and make the gun feel a bit tighter. They are amazing pistols, the trigger as a shooter is incredible. In full size the 9m 1911 is amazing to shoot, I daily carry a staccato c now because I feel I can shoot best with it. It's bittersweet when they are right. I love my m9 replica I got in the mid 2010s, bought it brand new as a divorce present to myself, the Beretta is a big set it and forget it kinda gun, the 1911 is a shooters forever needs something tuned and tweaked hotrod.

I wonder if the economy sucking hard between 2008 and about 2012 to 14ish might have something to do with prices going insane in the past 8 to 10 years. People seem to buy shit that are NOT investments as “investments” when the economy is good, but when it hits the fan everything that isn’t an absolute gem (hopefully) goes down as the mortgage is more important than keeping a bunch of stuff in Bubba’s safe

Ive been stocking up on Italian carcano cavelry carbines lately. Theyre one of the last military surplus rifles on the primary market for 100 to 200 dollars in my experience. I usually opt for an early bayonet release for an extra 30 bucks or so, in hopes I get a pre ww1 Rifle. I was buying one every month for a while and just stashing them away, trying not to get attached. I figure once they dry up I can sell a few lesser examples and pay for the ones I decide to keep. I see the same rifles on GB already for double. Just a matter of time before people are talking about them like mosin nagants. "Back in my day them Eyetalian Volcano rifles was $150 from royal tiger"

@robosoldier11
@robosoldier11 Жыл бұрын
@@kentuckyfriedpepespeaks1550 problem with carcanos is A. the clips, which can be quite annoying to get and B. the ammo. So even if you get the gun for cheap good luck finding the ammo to shoot it. Unless your lucky and maybe got some local guy making some stuff for ya.
@jbraavo24
@jbraavo24 Жыл бұрын
@@robosoldier11 the clips are out there if you look in the right places. I'm lucky that my dad shot off a bunch of surplus back in the 60s and 70s and kept all the boxes, brass and clips. He said every box had 3 or four duds and several hang fires. PPU is a good resource for 6.5 carcano. They only do 1 or two production runs every year so its either plentiful or dried up depending on the time of year. With the influx of carcano rifles into the US, it dries up much quicker. Hopefully they ramp up production to meet demand. I have 10 boxes and it was tempting to sell it all during the shortage when it was going for $60-$100 a box on gunbroker. I didn't want to contribute to the gougers so I just kept it all. Can't remember the last time I shot a carcano, not sure it'll be anytime soon either so I'll just keep accumulating ammo.

Another excellent video. 👍👍 I found this one because I just finished watching the other one you just made about surplus rifles which made me look through your playlist to find this.... As I stated in my comment on the rifle video I did a majority of my collecting between 2005 and 2015 when prices were still Fair... The only thing I've bought in the last couple years that surplus are a few Italian carcano carbines simply because they are still what I consider reasonable priced... I amassed quite a collection in the 10 years when I was doing lots of buying and sadly if I had started recently I would not have much of a collection at all due to insane prices...

Hi Mike, really nice and informative video! Your comments on the 1911 made me laugh 😅How you pointed out the difference between inflation and supply/demand was spot on - but you forgot to mention an equal blamable reason for the price hike: insatiable greed by the sellers and an increasing lack of common knowledge by the buyers! I don't buy guns but I see that even with everyday items on eBay. Greetings from Mike (expat in Germany)

hiked prices don't always have to be inflation driven like Micky Ds but it can be consumer driven the more demand of something the more money can be asked for and in the last ten years as things have gone from weird to planet strange the demand for firearms and the attempts to suppress firearms through regulation by the state have gone up drastically

According to GunBroker your 2022 prices are much too low. I looked up multiple models shown here and they are about 40% higher on GunBroker. Prices are out of control

If you listened to what I said, Gunbroker is ONE shitty source for prices, don't rely on ONE source for your reference....It's an amateur move.

Rack grade for 1911s are 1050 on cmp... Unless your buying a numbers match, a rare variant they are defiantly below 1500. Even on gun broker ive seen several selling from the mid 900s to 1500s.

@@MikeB128 I really wish you would do a video on the GD CMP. And how they are ripping people off under the thought that they do SOOOOOO much for the 2a community. That place is charging a ridiculous amount of money for guns our grandparents paid for via tax dollars. The CMP is not anything like what it used to be.
