I didn't even realize there were any HoJos left. Sad that a once iconic brand that had attached restaurants and stuff has become a roach motel for prostitutes, drug addicts, thieves and a notorious KZbinr.
@jakepepper2279 Жыл бұрын
It is a cheap motel room, but not as dumpy as it could have been. It least it was fairly clean, with a flat screen television and a newer hot shower. As for the microwave, it obviously still works but no one is going to steal it. Newer AC is a plus. The room should have been fifty dollars a night. Seeing no roaches is a good thing. I would not have complained. For the price, it is what I would expect.

Some years back I rented a similar room and I definitely felt a little scammed but from what I hear is the main thing you want to do in those kind of rooms is just look at the mattress and look for bed bugs but you didn't see anything and you made it out safely so it was a success🎉

Except for the newer vinyl plank flooring, current day AC unit and 2010's tile in the bathroom, the room looks like a location scene from "Miami Vice," circa 1985! Actually kind of cool, and I've seen much worse. That microwave is a real antique though. We had one like that in the break room of my first full-time job back in the early 80s! That green vinyl chair has a real 1969 vibe. One thing for sure, not seeing roaches in a tropical climate is a big plus!

Lamont-that room and most of the furniture (including the mirrors) is early 1960's. Actually, for a 60 year old hotel room, not bad (I've seen much worse). Tatung microwaves were common in the early 1980's, so, saying "Cold War" is accurate. With that said, the Hojo restaurants (adjacent to the hotel), 50 years ago, had THE BEST ice cream desserts (sundaes were served in a silver colored canoe looking bowl).
@SHELLMADDE Жыл бұрын
the microwave is old, yellowed and disgusting and they are cheap enough that the owners should replace it. I had them in the 1980's and NEVER ever heard of that brand either. He's not doing an ice cream review is he??

@@SHELLMADDE SHELLMADDE, if you had ever partaken of a Hojo sundae, you would also fondly remember them. They were the best. Nobody, and I mean nobody, has ever made sundaes that good.

I really love the retro look. It’s got that funky, 70s vibe. I like the microwave, too! The center lamp on the night table is actually very nice. The beds look comfortable and inviting. The sea foam green/blue painted walls contrast nicely with the beige and tans. It’s a very cool, mid-century modern room. However, there is no excuse for any filth. I’m glad that your stay was reasonably tolerable/good.

Hey that is my favorite hotel when I go to Florida. No they are not pimps and pros. I stayed there for I think 6 weeks Dec into Feb of this year. Everyone was so nice. I always felt safe. I am an old white single lady with my dog. All the guest were nice, I actually stayed in the room a few doors down. I only saw nice people there. Did you meet GG the front desk woman. All the cleaning people are nice. I liked the older stuff I thought it was just old Florida. I wish you would change your review. I am from Ohio and I am usually a snob about terrible things. I found this to be just an old nice hotel in Florida. As I said I was there on Christmas and NewYears a lot of fireworks but I guess that is how Florida people celebrate. I walked my dog at all hours across the street at Pep boys and the Lee Medical Plaza. I never felt uneasy with any of the construction workers. They all got up early and went to work.

Welcome to Florida where roaches are the size of large raccoons……. Just kidding. German roaches are filth…… the “Palmetto” bugs that fly and the American are just common in tropical areas as well as many other varieties. I check for roaches too when we travel. I can’t stand the little rat bastards. I’m ok with spiders because they will eat roaches. As well as lizards for the same reason.

Ive been telling myself that I want to escape the cold and stay in Florida. I can't afford better than this. So if I am ever THAT desperate? My first stop before going into the room is to go to Walmart and get a cheap set of pillows, a sleeping bag or bed in a bag and towels. I am also going to get gloves and large garbage bags. EVERYTHING there, sheets, blankets, pillows, etc is going into the garbage bags and sealed, stacked in the corner. I may bug bomb as well if possible. Anything I buy is going to be left behind. I will only open my luggage as needed, and wrap my luggage in bags as well.
