Just came here to say how impressed I am with my 2005 Subaru Outback. Bought used in 2017. It has nearly 206K miles on it. It has insane heated seats and a very decent stereo system. It sits outside on the cold & snowy Chicago streets & it performs better than most cars in the snow with its 4 wheel drive. Last year, I had to replace the brakes, the lower control arms, and the right rear wheel bearing, but I've never had any unexpected problems while driving. It always gets me to where I'm going.

I just came here because my parents bought me a 2005 Subaru Outback that I wanted. Of course used, but that one is in quite good condition and we'll see next Monday when we finally transfer it, but first thoughts are that this car is damn amazing, hopefully it'll stay as amazing in the future

By the way do you know what the P button on the steering wheel is doing? I saw it but had no idea what that was

Bought mine a year ago with 250,000 miles on it. This tank is close to 300,000 and still drives smooth with little issues and i plan on keeping this baby for years

Good to hear they hold up well, looking to get one myself. I guess it relies a lot on how much the previous owners kept up with maintenance

My wife has a 2003 Baja which is a outback with a pickup bed on the back...still has the full 4 doors and full size seats front and back...she bought it with 193,000 miles and now it has 307,000. The following parts have been replaced after driving the car another 110,000 miles after she bought it for 6,500 ..A front CV joint started making noise so she had both complete front axles replaced...very reasonable price....front brakes were pulsating so she replaced both front rotors and new brakes with high performance rotors and pads...very reasonable....an engine light came on and it was a O2 sensor...the one that failed was factory original and so was the 2nd one...replaced both and these were the 1st parts we considered expensive...$150 each...however they did last almost 300,000 miles? The last thing was the driveshaft started vibrating...replaced the complete drive shaft...very reasonable. My wife loves her outback cruck as she calls her Baja...1/2 car and half truck...a cruck with 307,000 miles and no payments or full coverage insurance and she thinks it's cute...oh btw when she got it in 2015 it was 12 years old...now it's 18 years old and she has only put $1,700 in it in 6 years...I'm considering getting a 3rd generation outback myself...Thx for your review...I agree!

The base 2018 stereo sucks too. I didn’t think to test it out because the 2015 forester I had before- the stereo was awesome. I didn’t think about going from XT trim to base would change audio quality but it did. Funny that it’s still the same case years later!

06.09.18 - Does the fuel tank crack and leak in these ones or was this happening only in the 2004 models. Our has just done 70,000 ks and the tank is coming out next winter.

What are the same price alternatives to subaru, but with better accelaration, i need a wagon, which are cheap to maintain in us and au?
@DrivenCompanion
@DrivenCompanion 4 жыл бұрын
I think Audi's are the best alternative but they aren't exactly cheap to maintain. They offer the same great handling in snow and ice but with a much more enjoyable driving experience. If you're looking for something comparable in price and maintenance I'd look at a compact SUV like the Rav4 or CRV.

@@DrivenCompanion Okay, thanks! i might go with subaru, i've owned an audi a4 b7, and it was the first and best car i've every driven (s line), in europe it's cheap to maintain but yea, i'm on budget so US and AU might go too expensive.

Not bad if you have a manual one. I have an '09 and it's actually pretty fun to drive, there's not much power until 2.5-3k rpm but after that the variable valve timing kicks in and it starts making that classic rumbly subie sound. 0-60 is probably in the neighborhood of 8 seconds, substantially quicker and more towing capacity than a Crosstrek (main reason I got an OB instead)

I feel you. My 05 LL Bean has been in and out of the shop so many fucking times. In the first year im on track to spend 5k. five fucking thousand. I bought it for 5.7k 127k miles, nothing "wrong" at the time, and it's been such a POS.

@@evanmiddlekauff5439 Right there with you. Axles, head gasket, freaking OIL PAN rusted through, sensors, sensors, and more sensors, catalytic converter, timing belt, the goddamn wiper fluid freezes easier in this car than any I've owned - it's like owning a domestic. An abominable money pit. Bought ours for $11k in 2012 and I swear it's been more than that to keep it running for 8 years.
