I love that you scribed the post to the boulder so it looks like it's perfectly embedded in the rock. When I saw this on IG I really though you used a diamond blade to cut the rock perfectly around the post.

While I enjoy working with wood and building things, I realize now how I would have never be able to make a living at it. I have not had the patience as I see you demonstrate in your videos. I once built a playhouse for my kids when they were young but I didn't use any plans. It worked and they and the neighbor kids enjoyed playing in it. But it would never have been worthy of a video. Just wanted to say that while I will never have never lived up excellence in my journey, I do very much appreciate your excellence. I have been a fan of your site for a long time! You should get yourself a Super Surfacer. I've never seen one in real life and I think they're only common in Japan, but every time I see one I want one. I've been watching Japanese woodworkers on KZbin and there are so many specialty Japanese tools that simply don't exist here for whatever reason. as long as a perfect perpendicular line is marked first so the 45 lines are at exact same height from both sides ( a mark at desiered location then an angled ruler at , for example, 8 inches from side to side, the 'exact center ' will be the 4 inches mark on the ruler)

Nice job. Here in NZ our specs say letterbox needs to be big enough to hold A4 size mags and envelopes. We have a lot of small useless boxes sold in stores here, but as a posty they are such a pain to put mail in. Yes you can fold the item to fit but many are stamped saying do not bend. (Certificates or photos etc). I love the way you included your numbers, looks a more pro finish and overall nicer look. One concern may be that being a solid wood post it might crack or warp and twist overtime.

Good info. Thank you. All lumber in the project was dried to about 10%, which means it will be stable outdoors in this environment. So cracking, or any other defect is very unlikely.

I noticed that you didn’t bring over your newspaper tube to the new structure. Thanks for sharing this insightful video. Hopefully some neighborhood fool will not attempt to move this box with his moving vehicle. Our driveway fronts on a state highway. We lost two mailbox posts to vehicles; on the second encounter the driver left an oil pan in exchange for the steel rebar that was pounded 18” deep in ground and about 18” inside the cedar post. I will have to look for a rock if we have to replace another mailbox. Wishing you and your family a blessed week, gentle weather and restful evenings. Cheers

Fantastic project, Mike. It's great to see the apprentice and how big he is getting. Rather than 2 horsepower, that was a one Mikepower saw. Bill
