Love your videos. Such cool content. So laid back. Makes me want to do more accessorizing on my Hijet kei truck. Lately, I've been 3D printing doodads I drew in FreeCAD. My Hijet is more of a work truck. It's great for crawling down the 45 degree hill into the back yard, hauling out a couple of small trees and driving them to the compost pad at the dump. Way easier than eight weeks of filling the lawn waste bin and rolling it to the curb.

Some of those kei trucks have 4 and 5th gear locked out in the trans. Without a simple mod you can't do highway speeds. Not everybody willing to crack open the trans and cut the shaft that limits the gear selection. But they are fully able to go highway speeds if they aint handicaped.

Just an fyi, if you used FRP panels for the exterior of the camper, the adhesive may be the issue. See if you can source a type design for high heat. It may not soften in the heat of the sun and cause the panel to separate from the underlayment. Just my 2 cents.
@OutnBacker Жыл бұрын
The upside to that is that FRP panels are normally white - and - glossy - which reflects a lot of heat and UV. I've seen it in light gray, too. Liquid Nails makes a number of different adhesive caulks for any application, and it's cheaper than epoxy. Using a tile trowel with 1/4" square teeth, a good base of adhesive will be the result. Glued onto 1/4" ply, and you have a very good chance at an exterior that will last for a very long time. Best to apply the FRP to the walls before they are assembled so a heavy flooring roller can be used to press down the panels into the adhesive, like a vinyl floor. Use a trim router to cut off excess overhang. Alternative is E-Glassing.

Thanks for checking out my new video Kirby 😊 both of our trucks are 4 speeds, the 4 speed is better for going with oversized tires then the 5 speed trucks. We are both running 13” rims with 23” tires and stock is 12” with smaller tires. I hear the 5 speed trucks have a harder time pulling 5th gear with larger tires.

Hey Mike! I keep meaning to ask, what sort of mpgs are you getting with those tires when you’re not running a camper box? I have a 96 Carry, but very similar drivetrain (4 speed, hi/lo, front/rear difflock). Seems my high mpg has only been around 27. Hit that a few times, then lately it rolled off due to hot temps. But my average is just shy of 25. Seems low by comparison to some of my comrades, but they aren’t running these knobby 13” tires. I’ve done the tuneup route. Air filter looked clean, but it’s on the to do list. Will probably replace the fuel filter too. New plugs, plug wires, disty cap, pcv valve, fixed a fuel leak (which did drop things for a couple of tanks but no big gains). I also just swapped out the tranny and diff fluids. Cheers

Is there a way to perform a gear ratio change with the rear differential for better Highway speeds?
@RichardCasto Жыл бұрын
As nearly all of these are 4x4 you would need to do both front and rear. But short answer is "no" due to no easy options. I have read of people doing significant full drivetrain swaps ($$$) to get higher speeds, but it is really not the point of these vehicles. If you want to extract a bit more speed, then most use larger diameter tires.
