@@MikeHolton Always believed that burrs like that were caused by mites and the like. But whatever was the cause, it ‘Turned Out’ to be, pardon the pun, a beautiful piece of work.

Wow! Mike this is a great video especially because due to you verbalizing your thought processes thru out the entire turn. I really enjoy that connection it gives us to the build. What an amazing elm burl bowl. This elm bowl has such a unique grain pattern, characteristics, and along with the many defects (cracks and holes) making it truly a "One-of-a-Kind" Bowl. Thank you for bringing on this adventure.

That was an especially gnarly piece of wood, Mike. It looked like something found in an Egyptian tomb. Your determination paid off as you transformed it into something beautiful. Very well done!

It's not as hard as it looks but before you start learn how to keep yourself safe when using a lathe.

I’ve never had the chance to work with elm. No elm trees left in my area. I have worked with cherry and apple burls with great results. Your turning is absolutely stunning!
