Hey Phil, I'm doing taxes so I'm taking a break, and lo and behold a new video from you! Perfect timing! I can't say that you needed all of your "Phearless Phil" capabilities on this one, but you sure used your "Master of the Lathe" talents. It's a very nice project, and so relaxing to watch you work and narrate what you are doing. Thank you! Hope all is well with you, as for me, back to taxes. Blessings, Rick

The sheer plainness of this piece helps to make it attractive. This could be anything, or hold anything, or be displayed in any room. Heck, it could even be somewhat utilitarian or purely decorative. Actually, I have to correct my identification of the wood. It's laurel, but not European! It's actually an American native called North Carolina cherry laurel. The trees grow to huge, majestic shade trees. Now, back to the video.

With a gouge used in the normal manner, the tip cuts the wood. Used on it's side, it scrapes the wood. Cutting is better but even so, sometimes you have to scrape to remove small imperfections. 😊
