So its 2017, what is the state of the game like now 4 and 1/2 years on from launch? Is it still a good game? Worth while playing? Easy to get into for new players?

I think that an expansion every two years is not bad. Ive been playing world of Warcraft since the beginning and all the way up to warlords of draenor. After that, I gave up. I gave up trying to keep up with everything that a new expansion brings. I think for a casual player, who has transformed from a teen who had all the time in the world to play MMOs into a busy adult with a job it's super difficult to keep up with leveling up, crafting new items that are introduced with each expansion. That's why I got into GW2, it allows for a more casual play. I do agree that getting hyped up every once in awhile is great and it brings together the new and the veteran players. Another point of comparison, yes WoW released 3 expansions in 3 years but the quality is horrific. It seems like gw2 values quality over quantity a little more than wow. That's my overall opinion.

Kseniya Dmitrieva I love your point man. Same here. I like how GW2 can be played casually or competitively and still allows the casual players to be in new open content without being discriminated too heavily. Unless high fractal or raids

I agree 2 years is reasonable for large, good quality expansions that last, but I don't agree WoW expansions are bad - people just play way too much so they burn the content in mere weeks and then complain about "no endgame". If a single thing can be the cause of the MMO genre dying is the whole "the true game start at level cap"mentality. HoT made a great decision, allowing people to play at lv 80, even if we need points to unlock the hero class. That way gear farming is interesting and relevant.

Well said. I play both GW2 and warcraft. Been playing wow since vanilla and still going strong. I have noticed that the community is getting more toxic on wow than on Gw2. People are more helpful and friendlier on GW2

I couldn't agree more, Khelekin. In fact, many MMOs have dealt with the trinity, by having four roles instead of three: controller.

Mikei The Mighty I agree with the OP, it seems to me people who are leaving or upset are leaving because of things outside of game. now the PvPers and WvWers is one thing. they honestly do need attention in their game modes. The PvErs seem to be leaving not because of a lack of PvE content but a lack of hype training which didn't really happen in GW1. don't get me wrong I enjoyed the hype train for gw2 and HoT but it lead to a lot of disappointment for me for both. the lack of GvG and continue lack of it, the lack of true end game content at launch. the short short expac with things straight up missing from it that they promised would be there. Maguuma is huge and it feels like we only got a piece of it. They could have done a lot more story involving the Sylvari and they just didn't. it felt extremely rushed. however the content was decent and raids are nice. I don't need a dev run podcast or a hype train to keep me interested in the game. I play a game because I enjoy the game not because the devs talk to me. that's just my opinion though. it has been a while since an X-Pac and they should drop one soon. also I'm gw1 they only released 1 X-Pac being eye of the north. factions and nightfall were stand alone games.

The reason Gw2 feels like it's in a slump for me has nothing to do with the amount of communication. It's because they released an expansion with a design philosophy that is so diametrically opposed to how the core game played at launch that it completely undermined the reasons I loved the game in the first place. Gw2 at launch had a very open ended progression system that let players both play at their own pace and focus on the content they actually enjoyed rather than feeling forced to do content they didn't to get to the good part. This made exploration feel very rewarding and made it possible to get lost in the game while still making progress. HoT on the other hand made it mathematical impossible to unlock the new specs without doing the it's content (or WvW which WvWers had to fight for), tied the rewards so heavily to the map metas and the map currencies, and was constantly handing out more ways to skip all of the core game in order to push me into HoT. Worst of all though is that it was CONSTANTLY reminding me what I didn't have unlocked while shoving me in a near linear path through the content. Quit TELLING me everything I could do in the future but CAN'T do yet and let me FIND it myself when I CAN actually take part in it. HoT gutted any sense of real exploration it could have provided in order to shove more 'rewards' in every place they could. It's feels like I'm either spinning my wheels and getting no where or I'm doing a list of chores I don't want to do in HoT causing me to just get burnt out on the game. /rant At least SAB has brought some of that feeling back for me and I now have those pretty storm wizards skins to show for it :). I just hope that the next expansion puts the focus back on exploration.

The maps themselves were fine, it's the progression system around it that was the problem for me. To use an analogy image if you were reading a book with a story that you were really into but there was one problem with it. Every 5 to 10 pages there was a big box out in the middle of the page with text bigger than the rest of the page that contained story spoiler for the next chapter of the book. No matter how good the story was the box outs constantly undermined it causing the book as a whole to be less enjoyable. That's how the expansion felt to me. The maps should have had fun explore but were not because they were always showing me the next thing to unlock with those annoying mastery pop ups and ui notifications. I'm happy that you enjoyed exploring the maps, I just wish I would have as well.
@fonepixie
@fonepixie 7 жыл бұрын
I have to agree with the pregression system, the mastery points are a pain, there should be a way of earning some outside of the HoT maps... like in WvW or PvP... not too many, but just enough so people can unlock what they need easier, instead of having to take hours out to utterly nail an entire storyline for mastery points

1. this game feels like it isn't able to grasp new players interest. starting out it was completely boring if i had not set my eyes on end game i would not have been able to reach 80. that said, it lacks a sense of progression as you level sure u unlock new skills and traits but it just doesn't feel like it has an impact on overall playstyle. 2. class identity sure there a huge number of differences as classes but having played ranger, ele, mesmer, necromancer, engi, guardian, and thief there doesn't seem to have a difference in any of them all everyone is concerned about is damage and dodge really. and the fact that we have so much freedom on builds it just ends up lacking that identity cuz identity also comes from limitations. ah idk what im saying -_- i quit the game since they destroyed the build i actually felt had a set identity

Hey WP, Guild leader here. This is my story: Led a very small 5 person guild since launch, the remnants of an old GW1 guild. HoT hype begins, I hear of raids, so I decide to start recruiting. We pull people in, guild baloons up to 30 people or so, I run public weekly guild missions for a while, some hangers on get in. Everyone is super excited for HoT. Guild has no problem filling dungeons, raids, weekly guild missions, whatever. HoT happens. The guild sticks it out for a bit, we're helping people with ne new content, put together a few raid crews, etc. This goes on for a few months. After about 2 months people start to drop off. It's not because of the stuff others complained about with HoT. We liked the content, we didn't feel it was overly short. The events and difficulty were fun. Even liked the minigames. When I ask people why they're bored, or why they don't play much any more, I get the same answer: This just doesn't feel that rewarding any more. We easily snatched up everything that felt reasonably worth having (as in, all three armor sets and perhaps a weapon skin or two depending on taste) in the first two months. Past that there were only a few, super-grindy things to accomplish. Guild hall decoration and further overly grindy cosmetics. Eventually everyone burnt out on that grind. As the further living world stuff hit, we played and enjoyed the content, took one look at the laughably priced single backpack or headgear item with massive map grind attached and went and played something else. Everyone that got new stuff occasionally got it all from the cash shop. For every armor or outfit added to the game, you'd see 8 more in the cash shop. The fact that even when you got those, they were in linked outfits rather than discreet armor pieces. The only rewards of note in the game are cosmetic. That's the core design of the game. My guild burned out because the game turned its only endgame reward structure in to a series of tedious token grinds. Compare this with GW2 at launch. The amazing array of armor pieces. combined with the dye system made loot fun, even after exotic (and later ascended) gear. At that point, GW2 knew what it was. A game focused on cosmetics as a reward mechanism. At some point during the development of HoT, Anet took a bad turn. They decided that cash shop transactions were worth more in the game's primary reward structure than actually playing the game. When in a given patch cycle I see three new outfits (an art task equivalent to one armor set) and I see one backpack and 2 helmets added to the game I start to question what the point of playing the game is. I have a job. I can log in for a weekend when new content comes out. I can instantly buy for around ten bucks the vast majority of "rewards" added to the game since last time I played. This was evidenced in the complete lack of ingame obtainable glider skins for HoT's major hype-feature, and the day one "celebratory" outfit packages. Anet would like to lean on the idea that "It's not pay to win because it's cosmetic" but that axiom only applies when the primary design of your game doesn't treat cosmetics as the only long term reward for playing. Anet lost my guild as players, for the most part, because they took the thing we used to get excited about earning, that vast variety of weapons and armor skins with reasonable grind per piece, which only collectively became a huge grind if you were trying to amass large collections, and turned it in to a system in which single pieces came with massive grinds attached. We all look fabulous already, and the grind is to high to collect new cosmetics just for the sake of completion. And since we're not regularly playing the game, the prices of the massive pile of microtransaction clothing is no longer appealing to us either. We're not in the game enough to get bored with our look. It's not just communication that Arenanet is fucking up. They're actively sabotaging their own game by moving the vast majority of rewards that long term players care about to the cash shop, where they require either no actual playing, or tedious amouts of playing to obtain, depending on whether the player is buying or trading gold for the gems. I can't be bothered to log in for festivals any more because they're re-hashes of the same thing, only with that grind turned up to eleven. These days I only log in for living world patches because the story content is still top notch, and I rather enjoy the new LW style that integrates the episode's map exploration in to it. However, There is very little that is compelling after the day or two spent completing the plotline and map completion.

I truly loved the game at GW2 (vanilla) for a lack of any other term. I really relished the game, the community, the world, the dynamic events, and the quests were turned side wise by filling in hearts, and just different enough to keep me playing. An I can HONESTLY say imho the ONLY reason I keep playing is the community is mostly helpful, and FUN to try new builds, new classes and new races and stories for those first few years. I agree with your take Mikei. An yes I agree WVW is far far more fun for my friends and I and they never fixed it once and never fixed it and put it on the same tier of pvp and that stinks flat out. The first 2+ years I played this game several times a week and sometimes daily. Then came HOT and other then the IDEA of new classes or "master class" specs I disliked if not HATED each and every thing they added. The maps were a flat out pain in the add to navigate and not fun although beautiful. But 4 things began to weigh on me and Ill start with 1 as it was my fault.... 1) I stayed in a dead and dying guild for far to long as my friends and I built it to have 85% of all the perks and such of even the giant guilds but yea a bad or dead guild in a mmo is bad. 2) As you mention Mikei the communication from the (new since the old one who brought out the brilliant GW2 originally had almost all been replaced. team has been horrible for almost 2 years. The appreciation they showed all of us who bought HOT and pre ordered it vs the free to play was dreadful... The fact that people paid for certain legendarily and they removed it was dreadful and that brings me to my last point which tho 3 was the worst one to me. 3) Hot came with no new dungeons.... no update to dungeons..... constant nurfs to dungeons, fractals were made meh and rewards botched for almost a year and a half. It is clear to me though speaking to the 5 friends i have and a few in game friends that all played GW1 that GW1 was far far far more beloved, stayed fun far far more often. I do not know what Anet is working on ( I am assuming their new moba) but I will now only log in once or twice every 1 or 2 months and do the story chat with friends and that is it. The game is dead to me until they show some appreciation for the game they originally launched, appreciation and respect for their community, and stop with the endless silence when all people wish to know is they still give a tinker's damn about the game. I for one hope GW3 if there is one is done by the original GW1 team or if it can not a team like they had to start GW2 (bad bugs and stupid soulbound not account bound issues and all) makes Gw3 and is kept on for the first expac or two as well. But yea it is a shame. I agree it is still a great game, I think raids hurt the casual and the small guilds with any buy to play and casual now free to play crowd is 50 to 75% of your audience. Oh and they put the ability to have the best build system and diverse system of tank heals support control buffs and the like since Rift, and allow if not encourage this zerker mentality which to me is as fun as watching paint dry. I do not regret buying GW2 I loved almost every minute in it. I would NEVER buy HOT knowing what I know now.

It was a good move, but they really upset HOT buyers who already had the vanilla game. I would def say skip HOT although the gliding and SOME of the new versions of classes were fun most were not in my view. The leaked footage of new expansion they are working on seems promising. But unlike with HOT I will not pre order an want to see how the game plays.

I feel this video was premature, and pessimistic. We know now that an expansion has been in the works for a while due to leaks not more then roughly 2 months ago. Not only that but the game is in a very healthy state as of when I post this. With the inclusion of an overhaul to structured PvP and WvW recently, as well as the anticipated final episode of season 3 before the expansion reveal. That all said I think people are just not patient enough now days, and want everything at the drop of a hat.

They need to release the next Expansion ASAP. I have been milking GW2 for things to do, for the past couple year, or so now. (the Season 3 maps barely last..) I've been getting so bored with the lack of New Content, that I went into my Collections page and started doing those, JUST to squeeze some content out myself. GW2 is a great game, but 5 years since this game released, and only 1 Expansion(even if HoT is good).. it's not enough. I've 100%'d every map with my Main and made 21 lv 80's. I started in 2014 and I play from evening to late nights. Idk what to do in this game anymore, except milking the game by playing content I've done a thousand times now.

As a player who's played for more than 4 years, for me the biggest problem is the lack of end game goals. The new legendary weapons are struggling to be delivered, there are only two legendary back packs, legendary armor is still not out ... They give us auras sometimes, but absolutely nothing to keep veteran players busy after you've done the few achievs that come every 2-3 months. After getting more than 300 Lis and doing every boss raids dozens/hundreds of times, I recently ran out of interest for the game and therefore stopped playing, I play a lot when living story updates come out, for one or two weeks, then I simply have nothing to do ... The game is based on cosmetics and they're not giving us many things to do on this side. Every time I want to play, I log in, realize I have nothing to do, I have all the legendary weapons I love already, all my ascended gear with dozens of boxes and items in bank, I have the auras I want, I have done every fractal hundreds of times ... We need new long term content !

I am.. an extremely casual GW1 and GW2 player. And while I lament many things that GW2 doesn't do as well as the first, I am also still strongly grateful to how I can return to GW2 and enjoy it at my pace, and now that I've started to get my first level 80 characters, I'm starting to set my own goals based on what's been given to me. My experience with the game has been mixed. I've never been the type of player who is strongly motivated to stick to any one game unless it's an experience that can be finished within a reasonable amount of time. GW2 has always been a game I like to visit, ruminate over the lore and all the open questions that remain with the game. Ultimately, I think you might be burnt out. I don't think that is unreasonable to get burnt out eventually. Everyone has a different tolerance level for it, and the more you anticipate and hope for something, the worse it can get. I for one get burnt out on things far too easily- one of the quickest ways I experience it is by actually digging into a game and finding out what problems other people have with that game. Once they've pointed them out, if I let those things get on my nerves then it's all downhill from there. Finally, I would like to say that on GW2's release it actually did not end up being everything I had hoped for and more. I actually felt rather let down actually. That's just my own opinion on it though. I will still be playing GW2 at my own pace, and enjoying what is there and be relieved that the game has, for the most part, remained and waited for me to play it at my own pace.

Good points on the video, I liked it so much. But as also a burnt out player, I left the game around HoT launch and the power creep was frustrating. The thing that eats up GW2 up is that, the devs take one step forward and 10 steps back. I mean sure there are changes that probably isn't "communicated" with us, but I think it is a knee jerk responses that they lied about, no Legendary stuff upon launch, wvw feedback and support and everything. 1. Skins I don't care if you can shit out as many BLC stuff of skins and outfits, but we need more obtainable skins without resorting to gemshops. We need armor. We want to mix and match, and make it specific to obtain by doing specific type of event. Just see what happened to dungeons, nobody runs them anymore. They probably ran by those who want to get that Dungeon Frequenter gold. 2. Lore It's and RPG, literally a ROLE playing game. This game, it just disregard you as someone who partake a role in the world. They don't give a shit about you, and you were somehow the "third wheel" of the whole saving the world thing standing behind the overpowered donut steel race sylvaris. Gotta be the second in command behind Trahearne and Laranthir. I think it has to be those idiot writers who never played guild wars 1 and wanted to added their OC. HOWEVER, I would like to say the recent Lake Doric living story was VERY enjoyable story wise. I hope it gets better from now on. 3. Social This game, is probably the WORST game ever when it comes to social. Good community, yes, but you can't partake social activities if you wanted to do so specifically. There is literally only one dance emote for each race, and haven't been updated since. The dance gizmo on the shop only adds three. No taverns with furniture you can interact to "immerse" yourself in the game. There is no "subtle" roleplaying other than sitting around DR and showoff your Human Female meta.

It could have been much better if it had any end game potential. after everyone got to the max level, there was nothing left to do... grinding for legendary? why would anyone spend countless hrs grinding just to look cool without getting any real advantage... it does not make any sense. the game is not rewarding at all. it almost feels as if the game was made specifically for filthy casuals.the hype was there, everyone was expecting a sick game, and it looked like one for a couple of weeks until players got a hold of it... dynamic events were not dynamic at all, grinding does not give you an advantage, it does not have any sandbox features that every other game on the market now has, it does not have anything to keep an interest of a hardcore player. maybe be good for casual weekend stroll, but its not something that one would no life for. and hardcore players are the ones that keep the game alive. there was just nothing left to do... the world also seems to be quite conservative. it does not allow you to make any changes to it. you just dont see your own impact in it. it almost feels as if the world is moving forward and you are just having a ride alongside it while it takes you through the adventure, but it is impossible to leave any kind of a footprint, that would stay at least for a while. The game also feels quite closed... there are many places where you just cant go, see, reach. the only good thing that I could name would be that it is not p2w yet which is great, but not enough for keep a hardcore player interested

Actually what happened was this. 2 months after launch anet decided that pvp was more important than anything else. They modified the skills on classes such as the engineer to make them weak to the point where people would boot engis if they wanted to do a five man run. a couple of other classes were like this as well I believe one was the condi necro. They promised multiple fixes to the classes in what used to be their suggestion forums. We had a great relationship with them up until that 2 months when certain creative folks left the dev team supposedly on good terms. 1.5 years into the game we learned that the real talent left the game and the promised they made disappeared with them. The head of anet decided it was perfectly okay to completely throw away all of the promises made by said devs of the team especially about fixing the engineer and they completely threw away all of the suggestions and stated that those promises of fixes were not important right now and that they may get to them later. During this time he also stated that certain update information will be withheld from now on because they didn't want to make false promises. Which was fine but what about the promises already there there was a whole wiki page. Because of this many of us left the game some for good.

First time to your channel. I never played GW1, but I definitely agree that the content update seems slow in GW2. Because of my usual lack of time to sink a lot of time into GW2 it is tolerable. But when I have significant time to play, it does seem like the only thing to do (I am mainly a PVE guy) is daily fractals and raids, which can burn me out for a while.

I have to admit, even though I love gw2 I have now taken a break for the 1st time in 4 years. To me it's just not funny anymore how the community keeps getting ignored, I'm not talking about ludicrous community ideas, I'm talking about things like build templates which is something that has been a request since launch. It has never been made a priority, despite how much if the community has asked for it. The general direction the game has taken lately is also a major point of concern for me. More and more rng and grind is introduced to a game that boasted about not having a focus on such things. The new and improved black lion key system is a prime example of rng on top of rng, bad practices like including rng based weapon drops to BL chests. The amount of broken promises is no longer something I can make up excuses for them anymore. Raids launched more than a year ago, and we still don't have legendary armor, it just keeps getting delayed. I've been heavily leaning towards star citizen as of late, a game in alpha stage, yet, the amount of work and progress in that game is miles long. And the talent behind it shows. Unless guild wars 2 steps it up by quite a bit, I might end up quitting the game, even though I love this game so much. Guild wars 2 has been the only mmorpg to ever keep me playing and interested for such a long period of time, and I've pretty much played every mmorpg out there. In closing, I'll keep an eye on how things continue to develop, but with a much more skeptical point of view hence forth.

GW2 is one of those games that I personally find to sound very good on paper, but the execution just doesn't work for me. I've said alot of times that the way the game looks, and it's ui is so close to perfect for me, that in a way I think it's absolutely brilliant. But the more I play it, the more I realise how generic it is.

Ive all but stopped playing. i barely log on for my loyalty chest of Mystic Clovers so i can eventually finish my first legendary. Ive been at endgame for about 6 months have one of every class fully ascended sometimes more than 1 armor set and lots of weapons. But I got bored after I finished my fractal OmniPotion, and got 200+ legendary insights from raiding.. i just dont see meaningful rewards from the endgame anymore. im taking a break and hopefully will come back.

> If you think doing my dailies in fractals everyday and raiding once a week with my guild is no lifing the game then I have idea what you think casual play is. Doing T4 fractals everyday (I'm assuming) and weekly raiding surely isn't "casual", especially if you have an endgame gear set for every class in the game. You're actually a pretty hardcore player for this game. I wouldn't call it "no lifing" though and I think that term is kind of insulting. In fact, if you played this game more than a few hours everyday, you're going to get burnt out because there just isn't that much to do to sustain that amount of playtime unless you like repeating the same content over and over again without getting meaningful rewards for it.

I totally agree, GW2 is now in a very good state, lot of content, high quality. We lack on the side of the competetive play, and that's a shame, but honestly, I dont know how an MMO can stand up in a competitive environment with LOL, CS, OW, and such. The only thing we can objectively aspire to have is a healthy environment for both PvP and WvW with automated tournaments and proper rewards. The thing I agree 110% is the hype/talk point. I don't think they should overhype stuff, or say something they are not sure but we should have a sort of roadmap, and definetly more blogposts / streams to talk about new stuffs. If they manage to get the attention back, I can only see a bright future for this game.

I use to love gw2. Heart of Thorns had me hyped, too. But now that HoT is out I rarely, if ever, log in anymore. Each patch honestly just upsets me more and more. I lost a lot of friends to the masteries. I lost more friends when Raiding tore people apart. I feel the community is a little divided in some aspects of content. I fear for gw2 :(

I am actually happy for gw2. Happy for it to go downhill. I want gw3, the Real Guild Wars game, which means gw1 in the Open World, interesting storyline, a variety of stories, enemies that matter and are personal. Skills that matter, group play which matters. A soundtrack that fits the environment, more serious and dark setting. A variety of PvP modes, having caps again! And much better crafting, because this one fails for me. I wanna variety of crafting, not just armors, sigils, upgrades to gear and stats. I wanna craft a boat so I can sail! Bring sailing! And real life skill, like fishing, horse breeding - something like in bdo and aa. Just make the game! What we have now and what we are getting is so soo bad! The story is okay, but it's just too small, too short, too rushed, and too silly and childish sometimes! PvE is all about meta events, raids, and fractals. Not enough. It needs more sandbox elements, a variety of things to do! I am bored by auto attacking mobs all the time...I swing my sword, I swing it again...then I listen to the NPC conversation, then I swing it again...

I remember when they mentioned working on a 2nd expansion and I found myself telling my guildies, "Don't get too excited, they likely going to push out the bare minimum to keep people interested." As expected, people disagreed vehemently. A week after the PoF launch I found myself telling my guildies, "Told ya so." Don't get me wrong. The story in PoF is really good (it was really short though as most of it is just you getting your masteries high enough to progress. The longest single part of the story will remind you of talking to a company's tech support... you'll know what I'm talking about when you get to it.). The mounts were executed fantastically. The zones are huge and look great. So what's my reason for the, "I told ya so."? I'm a pretty casual player in the context that I only have a few hours a day at most to play. Me, with my measly few hours a day (if I had time to play that day) managed, in a week, to beat the story (as well as getting all the story achieves), get map completion, get the hidden mount and all new masteries maxed. I did all the bounties and have made quite a bit of progress with the new collections (It only took an hour to get one of the specialization weapons unlocked without a guide telling me what to do). In another week (likely only a few days) I'll be more or less 100% complete with PoF. I'm all for quality over quantity, but there still needs to be quantity when it comes to an expansion. They spent 2 years on a week and a half of content. The people that no-life through new content were done within the first 2 days, I know, some of those people are guildies. Let's look at the maps. There's a TON of space in these new maps, but they didn't fill them with anything meaningful. No zone-wide meta events, nothing that will bring you back to Elona after you complete it. There is absolutely no reason to ever go back there after you're done. Even most of the elite specs (and almost all of the new elite spec weapons) perform horribly in PvE (about the same ratio is absolute garbage in PvP). So bad in fact that you'll never get into a raid group with one because they have neither the DPS nor the utility to make up for the lack of DPS. So that portion of the new content (something people were really hyped up for) was disappointing right off the bat. It's like they poured all of their time and resources into making the mounts and filling the maps with gimmicks for using said mounts. They even put in a *hidden* mount that makes the other mounts irrelevant 90% of the time. Why? Why not wait to put that mount into the game? Why make the others basically obsolete from the get-go? Because of all this time put into one portion of the expansion, the rest of it feels really hollow after you finish it, which doesn't take long for even a casual player as I established earlier. PoF has essentially become a case of, It was great... at first. The new zones, in just a week, have declined in population a great deal. I've gone 30m at a time without seeing another player. Don't believe me? Go out and do events. If anyone shows up at all for it, it'll be one or two people, but most of the time it'll be just you from start to finish. You don't even need to team up for Hero Points in PoF because it's just veteran mobs. I imagine a month or so from now, Elona will be abandoned for the most part since there's nothing of substance keeping you there. That's not good, especially for new players experiencing it for the first time. People are already back afk'ing in LA because there's nothing else to do and no reason to go back and do something once you've done it the first time. After you complete it initially, playing through it on alts takes no time at all since you aren't held up with increasing your mastries. TL/DR: PoF feels like a large Living Story update, not an expansion. It's hard to believe that they spent 2 years on a week and a half of content with very little replayability. There is nothing keeping you in Elona after you're done with it. I expected them to do the bare minimum to get people to bother with it and I was right. Feels bad man. Anet is one of those companies that never seem to learn from their mistakes.

Even with Colin there were times when communication was at the current level. With the new release plan without timers like season 1 and new maps and content being permanent they can do reduce the hypetrain that will burn part of the playerbase and offer a break to those. I'm on a break, but I'm checking out new content when it releases for just a small time so that when I come back I can go and enjoy much more than only the newest releases. I appreciate the honesty from Mo and the way he communicate i also think is a better way. What i do not like is what you say about communication. It is not enough. I know they get a lot of shit thrown at them and they get tired of that but they can not stop communicate because of it because that will hurt the game even more. I want Mo to carry on and do it the way he is doing it but i want more communication and interactions with the players. WvW can be saved if they start to treat it as they do with PvE. Talk to the veterans of the game mode. Don't do votes that anyone can vote on not having a clue what impact it has. Talk to players with a lot of game time inside of WvW. Talk to the guilds inside of WvW get the right information and you will get it right. Because this are the people who carry wvw. They are the one that tags up that carry fights that teach new players and they know what WvW needs. A link with a vote on reddit and any other forum with votes about a game mode is not. You say the same result in PvP. If anyone can vote even those not playing PvP or WvW or just doing the daily's then it will never turn out well.

Quite frankly, if things got fixed in WvW, and things got fixed in PvP, and maybe if Living World episodes were a bit more long-term than short-term quickies that can be done in less than a week everyone would be happier even with the state of communication. There's plenty of ways ArenaNet could have used new maps to encourage players to continue to come back to them. One glaring example to me is having berries be crafting material to craft those high tier foods that could be sold on the trading post. Sure that's just one way to make BF more relevant, and a way for some extra cash, but they could have applied this way of thinking to all the maps. What can we do or include that will allow players to consistently come back and make these maps relevant in the future. Dailies are great, but the rewards for that are mainly berries, which are only good for ascended trinkets, and which in turn are only good for those who are gearing up multiple characters. There's plenty of other examples, but while communication may be a part of the issue, it isn't as game-breaking or driving players away as some may think. It's maybe 40% of it, the other 60%, the majority of the problem is things not getting fixed, and poor design decisions that don't keep the player interested long-term in the new content.

Personally, after nearly a year of consistent Living World releases and the prospect of an expansion two announcement this summer, I don't have any desire to go back to the high-communication low-content drought days of 2015. For 9 months before and after HoT no significant content was introduced to the game outside of raids. I get how the lack of communication can leave content creators dry, but If ArenaNet can get expansion two into my hands within 3-4 months of the conclusion of LWS3, it will be worth all the silence.

There isn't any new thing besides these Living Story 3 episodes (that I'm not interested, at all, since I haven't finished the expansion), all the events are EXACTLY THE SAME as the first year of GW2. Wintersday haven't changed, Halloween haven't changed. And now SAB haven't changed, we have 2 world and that's it! Since I started playing my first MMO 'til now, I always have the same problem. I drop the game after doing as much characters as I can, yet none at max. level. I come back to some of those eventually, but, gw2, is the only MMO that I dropped three or more times (for more than two months), and still come back. I took a break again since I really don't know what to do, because I can't stand many of the competitive players on GW2 due the massive toxicity on some games, fractals are, to me, are boredom at first (haven't reach the lvl 50 on them yet), and I got the main objective I had since I saw the possibilities on it, my first legendary (Incinerator which is absolutely lovely). I'll come back again for sure, but I really don't know when. The fact that they stopped communicating or giving hints to the community is quite understandable after seeing some of the reactions from the fans... Can't wait to see the release the new expansion though, I'm really excited about that!

I disagree, I don't require hype, I require content, and the "explore it yourself and find out what it is." model they use is one of the things I love about gw2..... that's right! you don't know what's coming and well ain't that just like life.... and then what is amazing about the game gets to shine, and all the whiners who were hyped beyond what they were able to deliver in any patch, don't have such great expectations. It's too simple, and then the hype comes word of mouth, maybe you don't explore the new areas cus they got no hype, but that's not what everyone does... and to complain about content that you admit you havent done? Pvp and Wvw are going through changes, but the communities there are also very strong in game... sooo, what does that mean to any new player? that the old "paid for" players are gone from PvP and that Esports pulled out... but that company is dying on it's own, irrelevant to gw2, so guess that gw2 gonna have to change.... helseth, doesn't love this game, he loves the money he gets paid to play it... OR? wouldn't he still be here just to play. I like the new way, screw the hype, and people like you that need to be stroked to play arent the real customer base, you vid guys need to wake up from all this whining. No hype, the hype comes from the people that explore the new content. Wvw has a huge community still too, any new player would have a blast in there. And old communities leaving, I don't believe it about this game, too many people love it, they might take a break cus things just get boring and there not been updates there like you said, but as soon as Anet gets to it, which I believe will be soon, and they announce upgrades to Wvw and Pvp. IF they love the game like I do, and like you seem to... then you know damned well, they gonna download the patch and jump into game to see whats up. Sorry, love your vids, hate this one, tired of the negative hype that is going through the vid community about what is a great game with hard working people behind it.

For me the game went down hill when the Dry Top patch was added. I didn't like what they did with the game for almost everything from then onward, especially adding level gated skills and daily rewards which pollutes the game from what it was. I know a lot of people will disagree with this but it's my opinion and I liked the game about 1 year after launch before they totally changed direction in development.

that's actually true, the same for me, the Dry Top patch was the big alarm for me and it was the right feeling... the game is filled with meta events, currencies, achievements...every map since the Dry Top! gets boring fast.

Then again, ffxiv makes bank. It's a pay to play game, with a subscription, with a itemshop, and it's still one of the most played mmorpgs out there. In alot of peoples opinions/assumptions it's the second most played today, just second to wow.

Xavier Dias that's because FFXIV makes you run 5000 miles and sit and read hundreds of lines of garbage just to be told to run all the way back where you started. The game is decent but I do not know why anyone would put it on a level higher than something like Rift. It's super slow and probably the most boring starting experience I've ever had in a game.

I am suprised it isn't popular than world of warcraft. It is close to it, but i'm genuinely suprised it's not one the top. It does storytelling and gameplay a whole lot better. But that doesn't mean that it doesn't have its issues. The starting experience is definitely one of them.

Good content takes a good amount of time to produce, and from what i've seen from ANET so far in this game, they do not like to deliver half-hearted content.

the price of HoT - it drove me away instantly; overly priced for the amount of actual content and they tried to justify it by "including" the base game with it

Honestly my biggest problem with GW2 right now is more so its big variance between Hard content and Easy content, Big Map metas are nice BUT, ORR a high level area? Too easy to navigate, HOT Maps, Easier than they should be :S I would also add that I feel dungeons DO need some love, admittedly dungeons will not replace Fractals HOWEVER this doesn't mean they shouldn't be added, they developed the story in an easier manner than say Raids do, most people could manage dungeons at launch and nowadays most people CAN do dungeons, so why not have more of them? Develop aspects of the story in a more controlled environment, why not add some HARD MODE versions that up the anti to a level beyond Vanilla difficulty. Further yet why are these well written lore creatures i.e. ELDER DRAGON Minions so EASY to slaughter, why is the lore itself so hidden away from us at times and finally I would only really want to add the little gripe of, Why so much farm? Farmings no fun? I don't want to go to Silverwastes to farm. I want to go to Silverwastes to enjoy the content, I want to go back to the Silverwastes for reasons beyond I want x item. Why is the world so insanely invested in one story, Tyria is FULL if story why not have some minor stories that take you through adventures from a races point of view for example.

I just started playing like a week ago and honestly before I didn't even knew it existed .The gameplay is amazing ,I love exploring and fighting in events with others and it looks like a game that ate a lot of money and time . After a while I feel like playing a demo since I discovered that I can't trade ,there's no guide for anything and everything that's relevant and awesome costs diamonds or it requires at least one of the two expansions 25 levels already and I my character still looks like a doll made out of rugs ,and the weapons I get are either made out of wood or metal with a light on top of some shit ,not interesting at ll. Honestly is looks like a really well made MMO but that's the problem ,I know for sure that if I buy those exapansions I'll still have to buy stuff just to enjoy things like customization and more.

I started playing GW2, under a year ago. I have played WOW and a few others. GW2 is epic! However, i have real money in a small container on my desk. Awaiting a certain weapon skin to be available on gemstore. I stoped playing for 2 months over Xmas, reason, to busy. Why Anet does not want my REAL money is beyond my tiny mind. What company doesent want money?

I think the communication criticism isn't really relevant for me. The season 3 release cadence has been pretty much perfect. There has been just enough content to keep me going between releases. I dont need to know whats coming next because im still playing the current content thats been released.

I disagree .. HoT was not a disaster. It was very solid expansion with refined story lines and a total remake of the bad story cut scenes. The content was very much on par for the level of players and abilities and gave us great new class abilities. I do agree however with a serious lack of hype and promotion. I do agree with you on a new expansion and ANET needs to majorly hype it.

i perfer lws3 to lws2 but i enjoyed them both. loving the new maps to get completion on, was one of my favorite things in the core game was just expolring every inch of tyria and seeing everything the devs put their time into. if i had to say one thing that bothers me it would be that with there being currently one elite specialization with each class, it automatically pigeonholes each class into a type of role it plays in wvw, rads, and fractals. This isn't so much the case with pvp because if your good enough with a certain play style you can pick a play style to work( i run a vipers mes with beserker runes scepter/pistol-staff). In raids and conceptually wvw each class has to do a specific role beacsue each specialization is only best at that one role and this imo pulls the fun out of playing the specialization. My main is a chronomancer but i use vipers weps/gear and beserker runes for pve(sword/shield-staff) because of how it optimizes the mesmers tendency to do both dps and dot but none of either really well individually. I love the mobility and the defense of the staff skills and the quickened illusions that turn my shatters into homing missles putting confusion and torment on large mobs while i maintain mobility blinking around the battlefield. it illicits a type of gameplay i find challenging and it frustrates me that i cant get into one of the main content groups i.e. raids without sacrificing what it really means to have fun to me on my main. And so ill make a viper reaper specifically for raids that i can swap my ascended armor to without having to cahnge it back and forth, sigh.....................................................

Only real reason I hated it was because the combat felt broken at launch. No synergy with abilities. Unless you count the random combos with other players that felt largely out of my control, or were not worth the hassle to organise with others. The combat lacked complex game mechanics that felt rewarding or useful.

Ehh.. I took a couple years off mainly because it has the same problem as GW1.. it becomes grindy. Repeat the same content over and over to get an achievement here, a chance for a piece of equipment you want there. I started playing it again fairly regularly late last year. Still struggle with getting gold (I can't stand farming), and only gained about 4k achievement points in that time. Some of the achievements are so damn hard, or take such ridiculous levels of resources to complete. Just not fun.
