I surfed south side hb pier for a winter and a summer in 1970. I was 21. There was hardly a day where there were no waves. Sometimes small playful peaks, but the place can get heavy like this swell. One of the great surf breaks on the planet.

Yeah...thats a big nope from me on this one. Very easy to become fish food after a pier wave hulk smash. And the waves break up if you go the other way. Just not an all around great break for me. I will watch tho. Thanks for the video.

There were some bombs here......but the point in Newport is 1000x better. I caught some of this swell and at the point you could ride a wave with a fat juicy barrel section from jetty to jetty, then you take the white water in run back up to 56th and paddle back out lol

So. Cal. From Orange County and southward pick up swells from the north, west or south or any mix. So really you can surf all year.

how deep is the water there where they were catching waves? here in florida I surf 4-6 ft waves in 4-6 ft if water, and when you lean too far forward going in to catch the wave, I fall head first towards the bottom. This is one of the scariest things which happen to me in the sport.

This is a good day at the HB pier but have surfed many even better days there. Have usually seen some numerous great tallent surfing there. This group has some decent surfers but not the numerous exceptional surfers there usually during good swells.
