I personally really like this game, and it's actually pretty faithful to how the movie was. The main thing about the game is that you can't play it like a normal action game from the time like Contra or Heavy Barrel, it's a lot of spray and pray and run like hell. Like how it was in the movie. A tip that helps make the game a lot easier, is that if you have the machine gun, just shoot in a volley and spray. It only takes 1 bullet to kill an enemy, so you have a better chance if you just spray the gun and run.
@jupreindeer8 ай бұрын
I was kind of thinking about that. Many 'based on' games are so loosely based on their movie or show counterparts. And yet, here we have one that seems to be sticking to the script. But... it's hard to like for doing that. Guess most players can't be 'Die Hard' fans of this.
@WinAFreeAppleIPod8 ай бұрын
I legitimately think die hard nes is the best movie licensed game in terms of accuracy to the source material. look at Batman NES, it almost immediately goes completely off script and barely resembles what it's based on. Remember when batman punched giant leaping claw monsters in a sewer? remember when the joker shot lightning? die hard NES is the closest we got to a tom clancy style rainbow six game for that era, it rocks

@@WinAFreeAppleIPod You need to see the Warriors then. Although that is PS2. I never had a NES growing up, but I did have a PS1 and on that the Die Hard Trilogy game basically had a PS1 version of this game.

This game has multiple endings too depending on actions you take during the game. Such as contacting or not contacting Al Powell, or not securing the detonators. Not securing the detonators I believe triggers the rooftop helicopter and roof explosion when you take the firehose escape. There's also situational "game over" screens depending on how you manage to lose. There's a funny one if you and Hans kill each other at the same time.

2:49:17 - I'd like to see you try Bubble Bubble 2 on Nes sometime. I know you don't like the jumping on bubbles mechanic of the first game, but with part 2, you can also hold down the B button for a second, to start floating like a balloon to travel. For some reason this game is only single player, where the first one was co-op.
@mtgAzim8 ай бұрын
Hey Mike. It said my first comment failed to post, so sorry if this ends up being a double. But the Darius Cozmic Collection is half off on steam right now. It's all arcade versions. So the first two, the acrade of the one that was ported to super, and Gaiden being the best one, and the main selling point. Gaiden is really amazing and worth checking out. I'd be very surprised if you didn't absolutely love it. I think the sale goes until the 9th, so definitely take a look at it at least. I'm no good at shmups, but I wanted it just for the visuals and the music. Those alone are worth it. If I'm not counting on nostalgia, it's hands down my favorite shmup. Favorite for nostalgia would be the SilkWorm arcade. My brother had the cabinet when we were kids, so he and I would co-op that for hours. I was always the helicopter, and he was the jeep. But anyway, you NEED to check out Darius Gaiden man!

This game makes me wonder whether there are some games that you in 2024 regret being featured on AVGN because it sullied their reputation because being on AVGN, people felt that those were the worst games of all time? This game, TMNT on NES as well as Who Framed Roger Rabbit for starters as far as games that are not on the same level as say Pesterminator or something. Until this playthrough, I didn't know how long the in-game music track (the one that gets interrupted whenever you encounter an enemy) went and am actually surprised that the longer it goes, the better it becomes. Definitely one good NES track. As far as games with worse music go and my suggestion for a game you could attempt to beat would be The Terminator on NES. That might be a game you have not played since the days you recorded the AVGN episode and might also look good in your Games I've Beaten On Stream list XD
