You are one of the musicians who inspired me to get a Terra. I'm finding it lovely to play, but it also scares me how easily it becomes chaotic. Do you create your own patches and scales from the engines, or mainly work with existing presets?
@MikhailMedvedev
@MikhailMedvedev Ай бұрын
Thanks! I do both - use Terra presets as a starting point or use the presets that I have already created. I also export some common scales like pentatonics or major/minor from the presets I made to Terra presets when exploring them. I often change 1-4 sensors to key bass notes - depending on the chords progression I play now.

Enjoyed the music and video. If your self in the 1970’s could peak at you now, quite a leap in music instruments. My camping days back then in the wilderness around a camp fire was with friends, family, guitars and harmonica. What did you use to record your material, from memory the Boomerang does not have permanent memory. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! You are right, we went so far with the technologies - a studio may literally fit in your pocket these days. And more great instruments are affordable now worldwide. The main component thought still doesn't depend on all those gadgets and other hi-teck stuff - creativity. As well as inspiration. I'm also grateful to the days I spent with my friends with or without guitars near camp fires. I use an old Zoom 4Hn to capture sounds (both surroundings and line in from pedals)

@MikhailMedvedev
@MikhailMedvedev 2 ай бұрын
Thanks! Usually I start with some pre-made presets or scale presets. I made major, minor, pentatonic and chromatic scales presets. Then I might tweak them. My playing style suggests most often simple chords progresions - 2,3 or 4 chords. That's why I might use the 1-2-3-4 sensors for key bass notes and the rest 5-12 sensors in one of the scales. If I come to some specific melody line I might "throw" one of the notes I don't need and replace it with the one I need which is not in the scale. I try to play bass notes with my thumb and the rest with the other fingers. Left hand mostly for A-D sensors, power led and knobs.

Thank you Mikhail, your music and videos are very inspiring. I come from guitar (originally metal, recently ambient) and recently interested in synth sound exploration, now I happily have Terra, Lyra-8 and Micro/Minifreak, such universes to explore! You are a great inspiration. But sometimes I feel a bit lost with how to learn/develop in music. I find myself repeating things and styles. How do you develop in Terra? Do you study the scales? Do you configure your own scales? Do you have a method for exploring or just sound surfing? Blagadariu! ;) (I lived in Russia for some months, had a girlfriend from Chelabinsk) PS: Did you bring a battery for powering?
@MikhailMedvedev
@MikhailMedvedev 24 күн бұрын
Thanks! Well I split the learning process of Terra into two parts: 1) I train fingering with scales and chords - just to elaborate some performing skills and 2) I just play surfing presets and changing settings - every preset can drive me somewhere further, to a new theme, riff and so on. I found it useful to play Terra without any other pedal and external FX from time to time - thus I learn its limits. I love having some bass notes for 1-4 sensors and 5-12 for chords / melodies. I also love using powering LED for staccato effect when playing rhythmic patterns. I think it is necessary to learn chords in basic scales on Terra - major, minor, chromatic (though I'm still in the process of doing it myself). I have a notebook where I fix some settings, useful Terra combinations to control its behavior and so on. Yes, I power Terra with an external power bank often. Joyo jp-05 works fine for me (don't forget to have switch polarity cable 'cos synths mostly have + in the center)

How did you ground terra to power supply? I have thought of doing this, but it says in the manual not to power unless it's grounded. Great video and nice playing ❤
@MikhailMedvedev
@MikhailMedvedev 5 ай бұрын
There is No sense in grounding if it is not switched to another 220 volt equipment. I used DC 9/12 volt power bank to feed pedals and Terra. Zoom 4hn also was powered with a 5volt power bank. One can play hours with this equipment which can be easily recharged in field with another more powerful powerbank.

@@MikhailMedvedev do you think there would be enough juice to daisy chain a Cosmos off that output as well?
@MikhailMedvedev
@MikhailMedvedev 2 ай бұрын
@brade42069 pretty sure it will be an overkill... I use now Joyo-JP05 to power Terra and pedals. The previous experience with a separated powerbank for Terra and a Chinese cable converter from type-c to 12 volts ended up with the cable explosion) We measured Terra consumption once - it was something about 175 mA. I'm not sure, but Joyo's 12 volt output should be 140 mA, so it should not be enough for Terra either, but it works. Thus I guess Joyo's 12v output is higher, but really doubt it will be sufficient for two daisy-chained 12v devices...
@MikhailMedvedev
@MikhailMedvedev 2 ай бұрын
I would try to make a convert from 9 to 12 volts - it will reduce the power, but should be still enough for most 12volt instruments (Cosmos as well). I even bought on aliexpress one and did this converter (don't forget to reverse 12v polarity). It worked as I remember, but never used it after that...

@MikhailMedvedev
@MikhailMedvedev 5 ай бұрын
Thanks! Soma Terra is powered with Joyo JP-05. It is said that 12 volt there has only 100mA, but still Terra with it's 195mA work fine in my case, though I think of trying more powerful solutions. Microcosm and Boomerang can be fed with the same guitar powerbank and work together, but I;ve found that pedals of some brand sound a bit noisy with this Joyo powerbank (Meris and Hologram). That's why I feed Hologram with an external powerbank with type-c to 9 volts cable bought on aliexpress. The signal goes to Zoom 4Hn recorder - it also works as a monitor for headphones + I make parallel field recording)

Hi Mikhail, this is beautiful (have subbed!), I just got a Terra and am struggling to power it on the move, could you please let me know what power bank you are using for yours? I have the MyVolts Step up USB converter and can get power in to the Terra, just not enough it seems to have any volume come out making me suspect it's the power supply.
@MikhailMedvedev
@MikhailMedvedev 3 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks! Well I use a guitar powerbank from Joyo - JP05. It has 12 volts out which is powerful enough for Terra + you still can feed several guitar pedals with it. One day when I'm self-confident enough I'm gonna try a mod with 3.7v 18650 cells and an BMS board - you can google it on modwiggler . com
