** We're moving chickpeas out of the bins into bags to keep the grades separated. The chickpeas actually keep better in the bags - in our experience anyways.
** Bags are a love/hate relationship 😂 they have become a cheap temporary storage solution that make it very efficient when it comes to harvesting, they just make grain go away fast! 😂

When starting a grain bag, we used to use a couple 2 x 4 pieces of lumber each about 5 or 6 ' long with one on either side of the bag to pinch it shut. We'd nail the boards together and that would sufficiently close off the ends of the bags to seal them. Tough grain would preserve in a bag cuz of lack of air. The worst enemy of the bags were ravens. They'd sit on the bag and their claws would make holes that rain would get in and spoil some grain. We were always watching and taping the holes shut with a special grain bag tape. There's nothing like bins, lots of bins but if you're short of bin space the bags are a very good option.

Mike we bring out a couple 2 by 4s and screw them together on the end of the bag to seal it up. That way when extracting out of the bag you can suck the extractor right up the the 2 by 4 and almost have to do no shoveling. We mostly use it for starting the bag but yiu can also close the bag with ut

Fell down the KZbin rabbit hole and here I am, a Wisconsin (USA) guy watching farm videos. I’ve been following other farmers on KZbin and it suggested your videos. I enjoy watching all of you guys work and the love you have for farming. Sadly, our family sold their farm way back in the 1950’s. Since I’m 38, I never had the chance to enjoy said farm. So, I get to “hang” with you guys. Watch out for Welker Farms (Montana) to the south of you (another KZbin channel I follow.). Great group of guys down there in the ol’ USA. I thought their farm was big, but yours has to be massive. Again, thanks for letting someone like me follow the life of a farmer. I’m adding you guys to the list of farmers to follow: Welker Farms 10th Generation Dairyman And you guys.
