Your conversational style is so much easier to listen to than the close-edited, manic style of so many KZbin fishermen.

Thanks for the review, good job explaining the strengths and weaknesses compared to your Orvis setup. I'm just starting out fly fishing and something like this would have been a good starting point. As it stands, I went with a Cabela's rod and my father's True Temper reel from the 60's. Hasn't given me any problems yet!

How about putting the temu reel with your Orvis rod? I wonder how that would feel
@MikeMouradianАй бұрын
Actually the reel on my Orvis rod is a cheap reel I picked up on amazon. The reel has very little to do with casting, other that being balanced weight wise to your rod.

inexpensive rods and reels remind me of inexpensive wine. All is good, until you try a product that is a little better. Now you don't really want to go back. I started my son out with a Redington Trout rod & Lamson Liquid reel. (the Wrangler is also a good starter rod). I started out with a rod and reel from LL Bean. I think, altogether the rod & reel, backing, fly line, leader/tippet and some flies was around $60 -$70. That was about 30 years ago. Now I love my 5wt Sage X and won't go back.

I am all about quality equipment but Orvis (and many big brands) charge ridiculous prices for what you get. I hate having to pay it forward (at least double) on a “lifetime warranty” I probably will never use. There is absolutely no reason for ANY fly rod (Looking at you, Winston, Sage, Thomas & Thomas, Scott) to cost more than $250. Just charge me half of what you are charging and we can call it even.

I have to say I have some orvis equipment I've had and heavily used for 20-30 years and they have held up really well. But I get what your saying.

I bought an Orvis rod, and it was made in China, butt fell out while I was fishing, luckily i catched it and glued it together so... Go figure
@MikeMouradianАй бұрын
yep, sorry to here about that! I was mostly looking at the action and weights of the rods. I think the quality of Orvis equipment has fallen over the years...But they have to compete with these cheaper rods.

@@MikeMouradian yeap i got you, and that's why i bought Orvis, but stuf like that is just disappointing. Can you imagine that a but section was connected to the blank via piece of cardboard. I am by no means an expert, but come on, cardboard on a fishing rod, and made by Orvis. It is just ridiculous
