Go to the workout menu and wait in the section with all the sport modes for the GPS lock before clicking on a sport mode on the GW. The location pin will stop blinking when GPS locks.

I bought a 3rd party strap, bezel protector, and charger for my Pixel watch for $30 delivered. You can tell the strap and the charger aren't quite up to the same standard as the OEM ones, but for the price they are great.

Mike great analysis and video. Very informative. I am a longtime Fitbit / Garmin / TicPro (Mobvoi Pro ) user. Have tried Apple Watch as well (but that’s diff story). Recently (less than 2 weeks) got my Pixel watch. Used Samsung 3 series in past for few days and replaced it with Mobvoi Pro. My journey is all about usability, simple information and integration. So far I am trying to compare Pixel with Versa and TickWatch Pro GPS. I am sure I am surprised so far by pixel. Wish the battery life was similar to both TickWatch and FitBit :😂 Again great content!!

Nice review !! Agree, the Pixel watch can look tiny. I have both the Pixel and Galaxy watch 4 and I'm trying to warm up to them but the lack of integration with third party apps with these two compared to the Apple watch is not close. Hopefully with software updates, this gets better for the two Android based watches.

Had major issues with getting the watch eSIM to sync with at&t, plenty of ppl have the same issue with different carriers. I'm returning mine because it's too hard to set it up.

The leather straps for the Pixel watch include lug attachments with regular spring bars. So if you buy the leather strap you can swap whatever strap you want onto the watch. Kind of expensive though.

I've had the Galaxy Watch 4 for nearly two years, and it gets banged from time to time, and it still looks like. It takes about two minutes to change the default assitant to Google Assistant. And, I think the digital bezel is a lot more elegant than a fake winder. Thanks Apple. Also, having used FitBit in the past, I have found the Sammy Health stuff much more convenient. I keep hoping Google will come out with some wonderfully pue and perfect set of devices, but so far, oddly enough, Samsung seems better. Thank you for you review, which saved me the expense of trying a Pixel Watch

Nice video. You could really use a chart listing the various aspects and scoring. You voice is a bit monotone without breaks and makes it hard to keep track with what you're saying, hence the need for charts.

Great review/comparison! I've been waiting for the Pixel watch forever, old Pebble guy here... I had the Ionic since it launched, until they recalled it and GAVE ME BACK MY $300! HA! But, I'm concerned about battery life, I don't want to charge it over night cuz I like the sleep analysis with the Fitbit/Google platform... so, honestly I'm torn. Not about getting the Samsung vs. Pixel, but do I want the Gen1 Pixel watch, or do I wait... Thanks for helping me think about all of this, very high quality video too. You just earned Fi' dolla! 😀

@@qcritt73 Yeah, mine charges pretty quickly 45mins to 1hour based on discharge, so I just charge it at my desk in the morning. Haven't used it for bike riding yet, but I'm loving it!!

I currently use the Watch 5 after using the Pixel Watch for some time. I like the design, haptics and smoothness of the pixel watch more. But I'm not fond of paying a subscription to get all the data out of my watch and the integration with my phone was pretty miserable. So I'm sticking to the Watch 5 for now until Google figures the whole Fitbit stuff out.

Great reviews. I really like the GW and keep thinking about swapping out my Huawei watch to have better sync with the health app. However, its the battery that seems to annoy me. My current Huawei watch can go for 5 days before I need to charge it, where this sounds like I will have to charge it every day.

Galaxy watch 5 pro keeps a charge somewhere around 3-5 days, it all depends on what functions you will use, whether you will sleep in them, etc.

Durability, just a note, the GW5 Pro (44mm) has a titanium alloy case, plus a recessed screen, which i find more durable, and less prone for the screen to be hit. Also there are some really thin but effective "bezels" and cases (Ringke) (I use a case, and it is almost unnoticable) again helping with durability.

If I'm working out hard rock climbing I'm always going to strap on my fitbit Charge 5 (or whoop alternative). It's smaller which means more maneuverability and close to zero impact on my workout range. I also couldn't care less if it gets damaged. I always think it's crazy to see people working out in a full sized watch.

Thanks for a very honest review, although my main concern was not really addressed. My main concern with the Pixel watch is the integration with FITBIT. What happens at the expiration of the free subscription to the FITBIT app? Can I still use the watch with an alternative app like GOOGLE FIT, for example? I just don't want to be railroaded into a costly FITBIT subscription, in the long run. Could someone help with some useful info, please?

The body composition measurement is pretty darn close, not "just in the ball park". From doing body composition tests by making real life measurements and then comparing to the watch the difference was 0.05%. You just have to make the measurements correctly, that means: -after you wake up, without eating anything and probably, also, without needing to use the bathroom.

I owned the Galaxy Watch and I finally called it quits. Like many I've seen on forums, for me the back button was flaky before it stopped working altogether. The worst part is without the back button you lost functionality. For instance, Samsung Pay required the tap of the back button and there was never anyway to change it. Once you started a workout, there was no way to exit the workout without the back button. It's obvious they were aware of this and added a soft touch screen exit option in later updates. I finally got the Pixel Watch and so far I'm impressed. First I'll say, the things people are complaining about are likely coming from those who don't own the watch. First if you have larger than average wrists, I imagine most watches are going to seem small. The bezel is in fact the around the same size of the Galaxy and a lot brighter and more responsive. Heart rate monitor is top notch and when I compared the heart rate with gym equipment it was about two points difference. The Galaxy Watch heart rate monitor oftentimes didn't even register, it would just sit with a blank reading. I'd have to take the watch off, wipe the sensor and my wrists to get it to read. Charging was also a nightmare at times for the Galaxy as it would sometimes overheat on the charger and display a message, "...cooldown watch to charge" or something. I went through several watch bands as well. I don't understand what people are talking about with battery life. I haven't owned 6 different smart watches but I tracked my sleep with the Pixel Watch and after 8 hours of sleep I'm at 75% battery life. It charges very fast, so I can charge it in the morning while I'm showering etc; and by the time I'm done, I'm at 100%. A full day's work and again, only 25% battery loss and it charges to full in less than an hour. That's more than acceptable in my book.

The pixel watch is a great watch for casual day usage such as wearing it to your office job, going to a party or a formally dressed event and even just using it in normal day to day use. I purchased a nice screen protector case for my pixel watch on Amazon to allow me to use it anywhere without worrying about destroying the glass lol The Galaxy watch 4/5 is great for everything else, feels so much safer to wear anywhere But just like my pixel watch, I have a rugged case on my Galaxy watch 4, 44mm.

You can probably take the lugs from the leather band and slot a 20mm or 18mm strap in them depending on the width they went with... unless they didn't use regular pins for them, which is entirely possible.

Went with the Pixel Watch. I only have a Galaxy phone because they're the only ones making foldables. Through years of Galaxies I now know that Samsung cannot be trusted to properly optimize their devices or support all Android has to offer. Can't wait for the Pixel Fold later this year!

Yes they can. The reason the battery life is so bad is that the watch updates sensor information every second, as opposed to 5,10, and 15 on the competition. Turning off constant heart rate monitoring will make the battery last much longer

I have a Fitbit I use at work on roofs working on air conditioners . I've hit that fit bit off ladders and hit it on so many things as well as had many chemicals on it. No cracks on it and I've only gone through one band in two years. Hopefully pixel watch is just as durable.

I would generally prefer the digital crown to the digital bezel on the Samsung - but in all honesty the GW 5 Pro has made it a whole lot better than the GW4's worked. I still miss it, but at least the GW5 Pro made sure to drastically improve how it works. I haven't tried the smaller GW5 but the Pro really does work clearly better than last year's watch. I agree with you on the GPS issues with the GW though. Between it and the GW4 no matter if I left GPS always on, or turned it on just prior to exercising, it almost never picked up the signal until I was at LEAST a quarter-mile into it. Sometimes much further. On only a couple instances did it link up close to the very outset. Not sure what the deal is here, once it linked up however, it seemed to work great. My apple watches (I have the Series 7 and Ultra) have never had this issue.

You can lock onto GPS before a workout on the galaxy watch by not using the quick start menu and going into main app or click the more button on the workout tile

I ended up getting a pixel watch for my anniversary. I was using a Fitbit versa 3 between leaving IOS having a series 3 Apple Watch. I think the Pixel watch is like two watches I used before had a baby. The Pixel watch use Fitbit technology and makes phone calls. If I could make phone call on the versa I would have never gotten a pixel watch.

I got Galaxy watch 5 44mm, and no doubt right now its just a better watch. I was scarred about battery, but i must say i am positive shocked, i approximately get 2 whole days, worse part is that it charging so long. If Pixel watch cant give you a full day and you want track your sleep, pixel watch shouldnt be a option. Im truly happy that i wasnt waiting for pixel.

I have the gw4 40mm and I've put Google assistant on the top button I just press and hold and it works straight away I use it all the time also push top button in twice and it brings up Google wallet also got the new update so software is like the gw5 also the gw4 20mm was on sale a few days ago on amazon £149 bargain

I swap between apple and droid every two years. I stuck around a third year with apple getting the 13 pro just because the apple watch 6 has been such a treat. The Pixel Watch is very Apple Watch-y in how it feels to use and obviously how it looks (except I think the Pixel Watch looks a lot nicer). I had a Series 6 for a while with my work iPhone and I loved it. But having the Pixel Watch makes it a lot easier to not miss the Apple Watch now. I'm loving mine.

One advantage for the Pixel watch is no carrier adder for LTE on Google Fi. Also the Pixel watch is the only smart watch for Google Fi.

Although it looks great, the vulnerability of the Pixel watch with the wrap around screen is a big no-no for me. The Sapphire glass on the GW5s is what every watch should have.

You lose ECG and blood pressure, at least officially. If you're willing to tinker a little, you lose nothing, as they can be sideloaded.

With the pixel watch you lose no features the only main caveat I see so far is battery life. If you need battery life you might want to go with the watch 5 pro Franco is right. If you use mostly Google applications (less bloatware on the pixel watch) and you like using Google Assistant, I would probably go with the pixel watch.

I really really wanted to love the Pixel watch. I'm on day 3 with mine. I absolutely love the look, size and feel of the watch. Interface is fantastic. Heart rate is amazing I wear my Polar arm band while working out and they are pretty much exact through the entire workout. NFC with google pay is great and easy to activate without fumbling around. Ok the bad. Calorie tracking I'm hitting 4500 calories burned throwing in one 350 calorie hour and a half workout. Calorie tracking is just so stupid I wish that I would have read up on fitbit's horrible calorie tracking before buying this watch. Music, so I wanted to throw some music on the device. Nope I need a paid service youtube premium, Spotify etc for a download feature. The health tracking the I'm use to for free from the Mi Band 7 or Samsung fit 2. Nope another paywall. Battery life I knew about that in advance not a big deal I have Qi chargers everywhere even Galaxy Watch ones. Another fail it's not compatible with anything but the Pixel watch charger which is sold out everywhere. The steps seem accurate so I basically have a prettier $30 step tracker with nfc that I paid $350 for. I do really like the watch but other than counting steps it's really not doing much for me fitness wise. I'm going to stick it out for a little bit but I may wind up giving up and get a fitness device that actually works for fitness and never a fitbit brand.

There is nothing that can measure the calorie usage to any degree of accuracy its just too complex in any individual its just a gimmick on any machine just because of the obsession with calories in general and fitness and because most people are over weight who think they need trackers to the them they are making progress. I have been a personal trainer for over 35 years and there is no data that trackers make you loose any more weight its just a psychological prop. I do not see any problem with things like heart rate tracking and sleep quality etc. This is more a smart watch with a lot of less useful features for most buyers. I like the pixel any watch will take damage if you doo things like rock climbing and a protective film or case protector would be useful. Stainless steel is also softer than glass scratch wise so that is probably an aesthetic design to reduce scratching on the stainless steel bezel as you can Im sure probably gat a film protector for the glass

I didn't expect perfection just a baseline of exercise based on heartrate age and weight like any other $50 tracker. 4500 calories when i do one 300 calorie workout is insane. I don't know why anyone would defend it. It has settled down though and now it' has been reading 2500-3300 calories.

@@Oliver1071 My point is whether you pay $50 or $600 the accuracy is probably the same as in no accuracy so you cant really compare inaccurate with inaccurate the 50$ may be closer than the $600 or vice versa just because you are used to one reading doesn't make it accurate there is no base line.

My point was that every other fitness tracker was more accurate even a $50 one. how hard is it? you have my bmr based on hight, weight and age and the pixel doesn't have auto workout tracking so bmr+workouts ez right? 1835+300 isn't 4500. it has leveled off though it was just wildly high the first week for whatever reason when I wrote the original comment.

I agree, the only thing holding it back is battery life, and considering the reason the battery life is so bad, it's actually quite impressive that it lasts as long as it does. The reason it's got such bad battery life is because it pings the heart rate sensor every single second, as opposed to 5, 10, and 15 seconds on the competition. If they allowed you to change it, battery life could be greatly improved

They could have knocked it out of the park, butt everyone wants to giver then a pass because it their first try. Smart watches are not new, google has lots of good examples.

Thanks for an awesome head-to-head. I've been waiting for a Google made Wear OS device for a while so I took the plunge with my Pixel 7 Pro order. Currently I'm using a TicWatch Pro (1st gen) and before that I had the original Moto 360 which I absolutely adored. I wouldn't have upgraded if the microphone hadn't died. Loved the design, it worked super well and was extremely sturdy.

@@sshah2545 sorry, I didn't see your reply. I have been super happy with the Pixel watch. I like it so much I bought one for my wife. I have not had any issues or regrets with it. It runs smoothly, and I find the battery life to be adequate. I always get through a day even with AOD turned on and tracking a workout with GPS. I don't use it for sleep tracking. I did it a few times and it is cutting it close for battery life at that point. But if you were to charge it for 20-30 mins 2x a day you could definitely get away with it. To conserve a little power, despite having AOD turned on, I have TTW turned off and I use vibrate only (I found Turing on the ringer and TTW made a difference). Lots of reviews were concerned about the bezels, I don't notice them. The magnet on the charger isn't super strong but definitely adequate. As for a lot of people wanting a bigger size, coming from a much bigger watch, I like the smaller size. It is still bigger than most traditional watches. I can't compare it to a Galaxy watch since I've never used one. Perhaps there is more integration for a Galaxy watch and a Samsung phone but I wouldn't switch to a Galaxy watch having a Pixel phone.

I have the Pixel Watch and I love mine so far, BUT battery life is a little rough. That will take some getting used to. But I love everything else about it. The design, fluidity of the OS, haptics, subtle animations, and even the watch faces are all better than the Galaxy Watch (I have the Watch 5 Pro right now as well). This is also the first smartwatch I've used that accurately reads my heart-rate with my tattoos ( have full sleeves on both arms). Samsung and Apple Watches miss the mark for me, but not this one. So that alone makes it the one I will keep, even if I have to charge it more frequently.

I turned off LTE, location, tilt to wake, and AOD, and am getting 47hrs of use with 8% remaining. For some this won't work, but I don't need those features turned on. If I want to know the weather, I just ask Google Assistant, instead of leaving location on. Works for me, and I no longer have to worry about needing to charge my watch.
