First, I bought a Pixel 7a to replace my Pixel 6 because it was supposed to have a better cell reception, and fingerprint scanner. Plus, face recognition to boot! Well, I paid $450 for it, and I personally didn't see that improvement, and the face recognition fairly often said, not enough light. So, I started checking out the A54, and found one on Amazon during Prime Day for $328 with a written free return. I jumped on it, and was very surprised, in a good way. It's not as speedy, but it is very fluid and enjoyable to use. Geekbench 6 results were 23% slower in single thread, and only 13% slower in multi-threading, but in real world feedback I don't feel it at all. It unlocks on command every time, has a brighter screen that is very aesthetic and just offers a reliable feel every single time I use it. Overall, it's a joy to use, and I do not miss the Pixel's extra horsepower at all.

I like the Pixel phone, but I had to buy the A54 because there is no warranty for Pixel in Sri Lanka, and the signal coverage in our country is really bad. Pixels have signal issues, so if I bought a Pixel, I might end up with a phone that can't even make a phone call. Nowadays, 1 USD equals 320 Sri Lankan rupees, so I would have to pay 320 times the dollar amount. If there is no warranty, I would end up losing a lot of money. Why does everybody hate the macro lenses? I had to buy a set of lenses to use macro, and macro is the only one that's worth using. The fisheye is useless because there's so much distortion. The wide angle is fine, but it's not worth carrying an extra lens; I only use the one built into my new phone once in a while for to get all of something in a picture from close quarters. Landscapes get lost in it. The macro, I can use to read microscopic text on packaging, get super close to bugs to better identify, get some really nice and soft ambient photos for my desktop background, etc. There's so many uses.
@MainInternetUser11 ай бұрын
On budget and midrange phones macro lenses are just a way to make it seem like it has more cameras. Usually they are terrible quality and useless, the ultra wide lenses often take much better quality macro shots (that's what's done on flagships) no wonder they only put them on cheap phones and put telephotos (which are way more useful) on the more expensive phones

The downside of the Pixel is the support. Its not supported in many countries, you will lose a ton of features like VoWIFI, VoLTE, 5G, etc. Not to mention, not supported country means no repairability. I'm only scraping the bottom there are ton more features disabled when you're in a country that does not support a pixel. Ton of reviewers forget about this. Don't forget that the a54's battery is leaps and bounds superior to the Pixel 7. Pixel 7 battery life is borderline unacceptable. Even with the adaptive settings, it's shockingly poor. This is a clear winner to the 7a here, its literally just the pixel 7 that looks different and has slightly worse cameras. You get the benefits of the flagship chip, software, and now screen refresh rate. Easy dub.

@tommanseau6277 Жыл бұрын
It's not about the phone, it's about the carrier. Stop worrying about the phone hardware. After having Pixel phones for years, I got the S23. But then I found out that Verizon purposefully REMOVED Samsung's call filtering and "suggests" their paid service because their "free" tier is completely and utterly useless. I haven't owne an iPhone in years, but suspect it's the same for Apple phones too. The Pixel line has built in call filtering which works amazingly well, to the point I never gave it a thought until it was no longer there.

Google made stupid decision to make the Pixel 7a expensive and reduce updates! Pixel were known for their updates. I used 3a and own now a 4a from 2 years, it was a good value proposition until now. But now I'm not sure about spending 500 bucks for 3 year updates and small battery while other competitors offer the same at same price. Also you can get a much better Pixel 7 for a couple bucks more. I know manufacturing costs are high but remember they removed charger brick too! Pixel A lineup was go to phone for midrange buyers but it won't sustain in future due to ever increasing price.

Did they offer more updates in the past ? And will your phone stop working after the last update ? I use mine since 5 years, Android 10
@rationalexistence Жыл бұрын
@@schnickschnack4030 In past they have supported models for 4 and some for 5 years, now it's only security updates for 5 years and Android update for 3 years. Your phone will keep working for years as long as you meet minimum Android version required by apps to function. Google adds new software features with "Pixel Feature Drop" which you will miss if you are not on latest version of Android.
@sven5666 Жыл бұрын
The pixel 4a got a lot shorter software support. Feature updates are less important than security. Usually after 3 years the hardware doesn't really fit the newest features hw requirements anymore as well.
@rationalexistence Жыл бұрын
@@sven5666 Yes you are right, but as of now the average upgrade cycle is 2 years so offering 3 years Android updates doesn't seem that good of deal and Samsung offering 4 Android updates. Longevity of a phone should be customers decision even iPhones give 5 years without asking any questions.
@sven5666 Жыл бұрын
@@rationalexistence yes, the user should be able to decide. Security updates are important for it. Imho it needs 5 years security updates starting to count when sales are stopped - so each device can be used for at least 5 years.

It's all moot when you look at it from a security perspective. Samsung previously got caught missing security updates. Google has a better security track record compared to Samsung, also considering they make android. Also, google devices are the only ones that support GrapheneOS, so until that changes, it's Pixel.
