Good reasons. I'd also include the fact that he is a once in a generation athlete- his reflexes are on another level from most MotoGP riders. He also has a finely tuned training and nutrition program- probably other elements most of us have little insight to. He's a lot of fun to watch and I wish him many more years of championships and good health.

In his early years he thought lime this, now he's more calculative and maybe he won't win as much as in 2014 but he'll score more points due his regularity. If you look 2019 season, excepting usa, where he crashed, he always finished 1st or second. In 2013 he risked too much and he crashed in some races because he was too young and only was thinking in the races, not the champions. From 2014 onwards he crashed more by winning 10 races in row made him to win more everytime and that's how he wrecked his 2015 season... From 2016 onwards he was more calculative he pushed when he needed to but will always fight if he thinks he has small room for winning....for me 2016 is his best season ...The bike is shit that year..Honda was losing in acceleration and top speed that year but he never lost his cool...won when he has to and settled for points when he has to.... that's why #MM93 is best for me ever...

It’s becoming a problem though. Look at his crash with zarco. Pushing is one thing but a rider of his caliber should know the limit at this point. At best he has one fast lap and 2 slow laps because he’s pushing to hard and has to save the bike. At worst he’s far too aggressive and hurts himself or others.

Marquez is simply the GOAT. He was so far ahead of the competition when he entered Motogp in 2013, bringing new skills into the sport like sliding into the corners and those extreme lean angles. He had his trailer pulled over at a rest stop that my family stopped at near Nurburgring (not incredibly close, but there were signs saying it was like 75 km away). I was 13 at the time. They would often hang back & in my assessment, apply pressure to the other rider, make them use up their tire, then make the pass and run away. Their opponent couldn't keep up because they had already wore out their tires from the pressure. Another racer who did similar moves is Ricardo Ronaldo, who would do fake and bluff passes to throw off the other car's line, then make an easy pass. In the case of Marquez, I think he would race just close enough to the other rider that he thought MM was going to attempt a pass, when in reality he was just applying pressure and using his tires just a bit less.

In my opinion, Marc being so dominant, is a combination of many factors, like talent, determination, courage, etc. But mostly it is hard work he puts into every single one of his training sessions. His strenght, stamina, reflex, coordination are on completly different level comparing to other riders and this allows him to be in full control of his bike. He sets the new standards and does things on his Honda that other riders can only dream about. There other thing is his attitude towards racing. He his always positive and smiling and he looks like one of the few riders on the MotoGP grid who truly loves what he is doing. He is very similar, if not the greater athlete, than Lewis Hamilton.

Just a tip to focus on - it is his control of the front tire and the ability to slide it. You can look up interviews from Cal Crutchlow. You can also see that in races if you look at the helicopter cam ànd his turn entries - his bike just doesn't turn when leaned during corner entries :) this is rather major and bigger than his rear tire even though it is not as attractive and easy to see

I'd say in order to ride the Honda as a base you need mx and motard skills of bike control (sliding, using rear brake, steering with the rear tire etc) to steer the bike. Skillsets that many road racing riders don't possess. Cal for instance has said that essentially he never learned how to use the rear brake, a skill essential for riding Honda. Lorenzo is also famous for never having used rear brake at Yamaha.

Slide control has something to do with it, but if dare say very large and competent engineering team would help, specifically with brake data. @@nabiji not a god, talented and calculating yes but certainly no god. He has nailed down a formula that works learning from the best and adapting his tactics as he goes, those are his strengths. Stoner was so good in part because of his dirt/rear brake experience and Marquez took that approach. Lorenzo and Pedrosa were smooth through turns and he took that route and appropriated it to his style. But its all in his practice and timing of strategy, he is a master of executing on the fly and he thinks far ahead in the game not unlike in a game of Chess. It is incredibly rare to have all such qualities in one rider and hence why he does well there really is no other rider like him.

When I view these I try to learn. i do not get hung up on personalities or people. I watch the style of riding, but, the BEST teacher is tailing someone and learning the grooves and finer points of braking, trail braking and acceleration points out of the corners. Everyone is fast in a straightaway, but, the race is won in the curves. I know at my age I cannot attain this level and therefore I ride within my abilities. The KEY is knowing the difference. Younger riders recoiver better than older riders and older riders take more time to heal. That and it seems to hurt a lot more after 40 than it did @ 20.

Excellent analysis and video. Marc Marquez is the most complete competitive rider I've seen in my 50+ years in motorcycling. Like you said- he's aggressive but smooth, has phenomenal feel for the bike, uses a calculated racing strategy, and was never intimidated (even by Rossi). Probably the motoGP G.O.A.T. But like all the greats, someone will eventually dethrone him.

First time i heard his name was back in 2010, when i saw clips from the 125cc that year. Then after he moved to Moto2 in 2011, i started look closer after his progress, and in that first year in Moto2, he already fought for the championship, just unfortunate with his injury at the end of the season. Then i say, ok this guy has something special. I was excited when he was announced that he'll be riding for Repsol Honda in 2013. And the rest know the history. And it's unfortunate that he broke his arm early on the season, which excluded him out of the championship. Now we're seeing the younger Marquez starting to prove his worth in MotoGP

He is a smart rider and that’s one of his greatest skill. He knows how to have more advantage, focus on things others doesn’t even think of, and use his natural abilities to become even more powerful. His physique is one of them. Every rider train hard. But it’s the type of training not just how much and how hard. He stated before (in either interview or his documentary) he didn’t focused himself to be stronger in training. But focused more on agility and flexibility. Which is why he can get back up and ride the bike again even after a big crash and most times he hurt less than he should’ve been. Smart moves imo cause that is such an advantage compared to his rivals. I rarely heard riders talk about building their flexibility before marc. His trainer said this is exactly why he made crashed looked “easy”. He crashed a lot even way before motogp, and had one of the biggest crash in his career in moto2. And maybe this fact lead him to a different set of training which now become a huge advantage for him. And he’s not scared of it somehow. Even when he was a little kid, there was a footage of him crashing, the older people were running to help him and worried, he didn’t even blink twice and get back on the bike continue to race. And he listens! People close to him, like his dad, said this is one of the reason why he is who he is rn. He listened to everyone else stories, achievements, problems, inputs, even critics and analyze them and use them as a learning point for himself. Once I heard this I became kinda obsessed watching him in press conference. You’ll notice he is one of the only rider who seems interested in what his rivals have to say and always listening. He also listens to the bike. He seemed like he tried to fit in to what the bike wanted (like in 2016) instead of asking for the bike to behave the way he need. While wait & consult the team to help fix the bike to his preference.

I reckon it's because he has the perfect height , weight and strength ratio. His legs are perfect levers for the Honda RCV2113V, his arms are the same, in essence his fulcrums are perfect . His age also helps..he is fearless and totally believes in his abilities.

Everyone overlooks the bike he inherited from Casey Stoner, who had a riding style which is comparative to Mark’s. This allowed him to ‘hit the ground running’ in 2013 as the bike was already set up/developed pretty well by someone whose riding style was compatible with his own, allowing his confidence to grow from day one.

Even when out powered Marquez is able to find a better line and sneek into the slip stream where he catapults his bike through the inside and breaking just enough to stay there then accelerating out again while others are still braking . He tests the track on each lap and figures out where he can push the limits for a brief moment . Just enough to go past and stay inside .

The ugly truth is, that Rossi unfortunately let Marquez mock him to the point where Rossi kicked the front brake with his knee and Marc crashed. It’s all visible in the data of the bike. Rossi kept his face by starting from the last position. At the end, Marc of course let Jorge win. That’s it. The young boy won by loosing.

And he's on track to beat all of Rossi's records faster than Rossi set them. Did Rossi win the title in his rookie season? Who is the youngest world champion? From my experience, MotoGP races are rare on American tv. When i see that a race us on, i set it to record and i try to watch it live. With that said, i dont know much about the individual riders except for the most popular ones like Marquez and Rossi. With my limited knowledge, i like Marquez. He seems to be more humble than Rossi. Id like it if i were able to watch their entire season every year. That way i could get into the lesser known riders and cheer for them. I've never been a "mainstream" fan of sports. By that i mean, i like to get excited for the "underdog".

Marquez' all or nothing mental approach is a knife edge. If he is doing well, he rides brilliantly. If he is not perfect, if he is under pressure, he rides risky. He makes judgement errors, he makes passes that aren't passes. You see it surface a fair bit even with the newer, smarter Marquez. It's hurt him quite badly this season.
