sorry for the loss of your shop buddy. I also recently lost mine. Hope to find a friend soon. Thanks for all the tips and tricks

Losinmg a fur buddy is hard. We were looking for an older, small dog who was house trained. An we wound up with a rambunctious puppy who can stand on her hind legs to get things off the counter. But she is a sweet dog. Just needs more training.

Hi Mike Ward here from Cape Town south Africa!! Thanks very much for the tips on measuring devices. I especially liked the one with the perspex rings for roughly centering your wood. I've made 2 of my own, One 200mmx200mm and one 100mmx100mm I scribed the different rings in with a pair of deviders and marked them with a permanent marker. They work a treat!! Kind regards Ward

I've bought way too many measuring devices when I could have been making them for myself. Maybe this video will prompt someone who is just starting to make their own tools. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂

Hello Mike, I like all your measuring tools except for the depth gauge. All turners seem to think that you need a complicated tool to check the depth of cut in a bowl or a box. I use a brass scale that came from a folding rule, I put a small handle on it about 15 degrees off of square, and use it to bottom out the the zero end of the brass scale, sight across the edge and mark it with my finger, then holding that point place my finger on the edge that I sighted off of, and then lean over a bit to a perpendicular sight line with the end of the brass scale. I can check the bottom depth in about five seconds. I find that this is a lot quicker, thus I check it more often to see where I am at as far as depth of cut. I feel that my tolerance is within 1/32. Hey we look at these spinning masses all the time, we should be able to sight a line from edge to edge and visually transmit that measurement.

Great combination of jigs and fixtures. I've been using the Fibonacci divider more and more to help me tweak my design. Nice job, Mike. Leah will help your viewership. She deserves a lot of screen time. Love those ears.

Thank you Mike. One thing that I’ve done to highlight grooves in plexiglass or even etched metal rulers, is paint it with fingernail polish then wipe off the surface before it dries on the top. That has really helped for some measuring tools or the Kregg jig with in distinct markings.

Mike, how about some jigs for grinding bowl gouges, scrapers, skews, etc to desired angles?

Sorry to hear about Maisie. I lost my buddy Dudley a couple of months ago. Great shop measuring devices. Thanks for all of the examples. For bowl depths, I've been using the design from Sam Angelo. I like it because it takes into consideration the depth of the bottom chuck mortice.

Thanks Mike, I've been using some of your measuring tools for a number of years. (Bowl rounds, Acrylic, Depth gauge, chuck sizing). You have been a source of knowledge and inspiration for about five years.

for the acrylic circle template, I just scribed with dividers at 1/2" increments, and filled the scratches with white Kiwi shoepolish.

Good stuff! I bought too many $5-$10 gadgets to "help" me when I could have made them from scrap material like you have. Better to save that money and spend it on a good chuck instead!

My clear plastic center finder rings have been highlighted with different colors for each ring. Permanent markers make it easy to visually know which circle you want all the way around. Each ring also has a pencil hole for marking the cut lines, and a number indicating the diameter of that circle. And there are also circles for half inch increments to get the most out of the wood. I keep one at the outdoor sawbuck (chainsaw), one at the bandsaw and one at the lathe.
