Neat gift idea, Mike! Great way to use up those smaller blanks laying around, too. Nice finish on this piece and I really like the beaded rim. Good job! Phil

Hi Mike, Thanks for the timely video. They just cut down a standing dead red oak at our church and I was able to get a little before it was all split up for firewood. This idea will let me make a nice Christmas gift for my Pastor. Stay safe and well to keep the ideas/videos coming. Cheers, Tom

I am sure he will appreciate it! Stay safe.

@@MikePeaceWoodturning If it doesn’t warp/crack to pieces. The standing dead tree still yielded pretty green (wet) wood. I’m going to risk trying drying it in the microwave. May wind up turning a news one. Good practice I guess 😄. Thanks again for all the time and effort you put into sharing you knowledge with everyone. Cheers, Tom

I make a lot of similar bowls I call candy bowls, about the same diameter but shallower. I'm not fussy about the wood though. Two by four cutoff glue ups can turn out really nice.

I do not use the wood worm screw that much. About 99% of my turning is done without its use. I did not know the flat spots on the wood worm screw’s base need to be lined up with the Chuck’s glides. This is a good thing to know!!! Thanks for telling us about this very subtitle detail some of us didn’t know about.

Thanks. Maybe you will find more times to use the WW screw now.

Turned one just yesterday out of bone dry walnut....problem was our daughter came for a visit and talked her old dad out of it...seems they work equally well for women as a daily jewelry bowl too. Oh well that's why we turn.....nice video Mike, except for the ants. 👍

You must have a spy camera in my shop :-) I made one last week that was a dead ringer, except that there were 3 grooves in the top. Tip: cut the two outside grooves first, because it is easier to find the center line for the third. I always have trouble getting three groves spaced well if I cut them in succession.
@MikePeaceWoodturning4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Doug. Great tip on cutting rings.
@dwightl58634 жыл бұрын
To get equal spacing on rings is use a metal pointed compass.
@jessetutterrow43204 жыл бұрын
I use the two points on a beading tool (D-Way) to mark the grooves and being lazy I just finish the bead. Next bead I already have the starter groove from the last one. For beads spaced apart I use the correct size beading tool's points to mark the starting groove.

Check with the intended recipient if he wears rings; a center ring post might be appreciated.

Is there a USA equivalent for Cellulose Thinners?
@MikePeaceWoodturning2 жыл бұрын
In the USA I believe we would use lacquer thinner. That is what I would use if I was thinning my Mylands cellulose sanding sealer.

I lost count. 4-5 ads? 6? All for a small bowl video? I sat through them this time but never again, even for an entertaining video like this one.
@MikePeaceWoodturning4 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with you. If the aggravation of watching a few seconds of ads exceeds the value of the video, move on to another channel. By the way, those few seconds of ads provides me some compensation or at least covers the cost of me producing free content.
@jessetutterrow43204 жыл бұрын
@@MikePeaceWoodturning I had no problem with the ads in this video. There are some channels that seem to be nothing but tool ad after tool ad. But not Mike's channel.
