Well, they're both extraordinarily beautiful! However, considering space efficiency in my kitchen, I would have to vote for the spalted one, which I did below. Thank you for your work, Harry!

WOW, Harry once again you outdid yourself. The one on the left, the cherry one was obviously a true work of art and has my vote. Not to undo the one on the right that was more compact and has its own place. For size, that may be more what some folks would prefer.

Refreshing to see traditional (NO EPOXY RESIN) wood turning! These pieces have natural warmth and beauty that beg to be touched. These are some of the elements that drew me to wood turning 38 years ago. Another beauty of wood turning is we make use of yard trees and cutoffs that are typically discarded. If one has a Grandpa planted tree that came down from storm or other causes, it behooves you to find a Harry Smith (esc) wood turner near by. He or she can help keep Grandpa or Grandma alive for generations. Wakodahatchee Chris

I can see why you had the idea to be radical and combine the cherry and the spalted wood, but I agree with you that it was the right choice to make two projects in the end. Both are stunning. My preference is the cherry one, for several reasons: pure personal preference of colour, but also knowing the peril of the serious risk of a dangerous catch during the turning! Superb job displaying the inner beauty of the grain. Your natural talent shines through this video. Thanks Harry.

Very nice, but I notice you are using a spindle roughing gouge not a bowl gouge on the outside and to set the form. It worked, but I am curios of your choice as it could bend the tool.

spindle roughing gouge can break off at the tang where it meets the handle if you get a catch, potentially sending the metal flying, extremely dangerous

Suburb workmanship !! Thanks for the inspiration to try new things too !!! Please keep new videos coming, soon. I noticed when I first came across your KZbin channel that you wear gloves while turning. I'm just getting started using a lathe & I've heard it is not safe to wear gloves. Is this true, or is it more of a personal choice ? I'm thinking it would help to protect your hands & give a better grip on the turning tool being used, any thoughts from your perspective ? Thanks, David WoodWorking Made Simpler Ada, MI

Thanks for the comment, David! It's really down to personal choice, I wear them and have ever since I started turning. However, people say it's dangerous as you can get pulled into the machine, but this is much more likely with metal lathes. I like to wear them as the protect my hands, I used to cut them all the time. On another note make sure you vote which of the pigs you like the most in my poll in the comments 😁👍
