I think it’s so endearing how the Chinese just ask questions as innocently as children (about skin colour etc) this is how it should be, we all can feel how something is stated/asked etc, we know if something’s asked with malice, etc this is genuine inquisitiveness, this is how we break down barriers and myths. On Chinese New Year we typically have the oranges, clementines, mandarins or tangerines. 🍊. When that nice elderly man gave you that, it’s a sign of respect and good luck. In Cantonese we say Dai Gut Dai Ley. The bigger the Clementine 🍊 the bigger the Luck! Cherish the fruit! It’s a symbol of luck.

You can even learn Chinese by watching these videos. When i hear something simple and interesting, i try to write it using pinyin in google translate. Usually works. Like for example at 18:45 "Nǐ huì shuō zhōngguó" Answer: "Huì yīdiǎn".

My life dream as a youngin, even today. I wanted to be polyglot, instead I took piano, but I wish I also did languages. I can recall here in America when a white person was shocked at the color of my feet, they couldn't believe my feet was different than my skin. Ooohhh I could have easily come at him, but like you I educated them on brown and black people and our many different skin tones, still it's amazing how people question such a thing.
