Despite passing on Malik Neighbors with the 5th overall pick, the Los Angeles Chargers made strategic moves in the NFL Draft to bolster their roster. Jim Harbaugh surprised everyone by selecting Joe Alt in the first round, emphasizing the importance of offensive linemen as weapons. The Chargers then traded up in the second round to draft Lad McConkey and added depth to their wide receiver corps with Brenden Rice, son of NFL legend Jerry Rice. Is this the right path for the Chargers?

Does he? It took him 8 years to win one in Michigan, and he never won a SB in the NFL. He made it to one his rookie season as the head coach of the 49ers, but he had nothing to do with building that team. In fact, the longer he was there the worse the 9ers were since they never went back to a SB, so I think you’re placing way too much on one college championship, which is amazing, but it’s not like he went to the University of Montana and did it, Michigan is a big time program that Tom Brady came from, so there’s a lot of outside influence with that program that has nothing to do with him. If he wins with the chargers, it’ll be a huge accomplishment because the Chokers, I mean Chargers are one of those jinxed teams, so time will tell.

There were WR weapons up and down the second round as well, so taking a legit to franchise level tackle with your first pick makes a lot of sense. It would be much more difficult to get Neighbors opportunities with your qb running for his life or on his back more often with a lessor O line.

Thank you,Chargers! Jones will finally get a number one wide receiver… Hopefully he has the protection, OUR Giants offense will look totally different without Saquon as well… I think they’ll be a lot better without him because it will ❌🙅🏻‍♂️ NOT be predictable ALL THE TIME! 🤔🤔🤔⭐️⭐️👉🏻The funny thing is, now that the idiot Darren Waller retired… 👉🏻🤷🏻‍♂️ - Based on the numbers, I believe the Giants could’ve easily signed Saquon Barkley if they knew this AND WANTED HIM BACK ‼️💯%‼️… AS CRAZY AS IT SOUNDS => I THINK WE/GIANTS WILL BE A BETTER “O” WITHOUT #26… i’ve been saying for a while I didn’t want the Giants to waste their money on Saquon to be honest with you… Yes, 💯% => we could’ve/SHOULD’VE SIMPLY tagged him and traded him to get something in return, but we did him a favor and he ends up signing with the Eagles in return! Lol. #DeadToUs #SaquonBarkley 💥💥💥HE WILL PUT UP SOME NUMBERS IN PHILLY now having a real line to run through 🤷🏻‍♂️. ✅‼️. This is situation where trying to be nice to a former player of ours came back to bite us… It’s easy for me to say all this, but it could’ve been an issue with us not having the money to tag him and we would’ve lost out on other moves we made as a result. That’s most likely the reason why we did not do No hard feelings at all, and I’m not better because this is what I wanted… We’ll see if I’m right or wrong.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 without him as crazy as that sounds. They will have to be more creative, and the offense will be more balanced, I believe Saquon was not the best pass blocker either, and that being said we needed protection in the backfield and I think we have much better blocking now. We might even keep an extra tight end for that exact situation/have someone back there literally to act as a blocking HB… But not a FB or a RB- just a tight end instead to be nice and close to Jones to block on any blitzes, etc. This will be extremely helpful against teams who have explosive past Russia, who is very fast off the jump. You will have your tackle, stopping momentum, and lastly, you’ll have a chip blocker for sure giving John another 2.5-3.5 seconds. Overall t’ll be different with change of pace, some longer passes finally with a new hungry tight end to go along with Bellinger, Malik, Slaton, Robinson, Hyatt, Hodgins, and let’s not forget the running backs who can also catch out of the backfield… I think this offense is totally underrated, just like the pass rush with Burns and Thibodaux! LMFAO. Let’s not forget about Bobby oh/most underrated player the Giants have had in so long… And sexy Dexy in that middle! Good Lord… The are going to look a lot better than what they are on paper because of the pressure the defense will finally get to put on our opponents! NO EXCUSE FOR THE D-LINE OR SECONDARY IF WE GET PRESSUEE⭐️✅💯🎯🎰‼️! If we’re not getting pressure on the quarterback, we got the wrong coordinator and we really screwed that up with wink. I’ll give it time because our new coordinator does not blitz at all… So we really need the skill of the big three:, Dexter, Thibodaux! 100%💯🎯‼️💥💥💥🎰

If Alt plays like the next Joe Thomas everyone will love this pick in hindsight. They have a great OT duo. This dude will help you average an extra 0.5-1.0 YPC potentially. Doesn't sound like much but that could take you from 3.9 YPC to 4.7 YPC. That will win you a lot of games. Gotta build up with the new regime

I like the pick and hope he balls out, but being someone's sun doesn't nec. mean anything. Ever hear about Jerret Payton? Walter Payton's Son. Yeah, no one has really heard of him. He went far based on the name and..... disappointed. Great young man, not a great RB. Kellen Winslow Jr disappointed. Dan Fout's Nephew shared the Fouts name and played QB, was drafted, never did much. So last name is nice, but doesn't always mean much. If it was about last name, Rice would have been drafted ahead of Marvin Harrison Jr.

ARGUABLY the greatest!?? (Jerry Rice!!) You're the ONLY one on the 🌏 that would argue that Jerry Rice isn't "DA GOAT!" W/R!! 🙄

This is what I expected the Bengals to do in the 2021 draft, but they did get the elite LSU WR in Ja’marr Chase. Would not change a thing, but keep in mind Burrow has missed chunks of every season except for the Super Bowl run. I can’t fault Harbaugh’s logic.

If you build the trenches it helps the backend on D and the WRs on O Decent WRs can get open if the O-Line is blocking for 5+ seconds and Average RBs can get nice yards with all that Beef blocking DBs just need to lock up for a few seconds and let the D-Line attack On the other side of the D-Line gets no Pressure even a HOF secondary is gonna get beat having to cover some Lamar/Kyler scramble like play And on Offense Moss/Rice don’t matter who out wide if your QB getting Speared every play

If you know football, you can’t say you were “surprised by this”. It’s Greg Roman’s offense, run, run and more runs. Btw. Love you how you convenienlty didn’t bother to Ladd McConkey…the guy they picked before Brendan Rice..both very underrated picks too.

I’m a fan of him he’s a great coach & he did the right thing by selecting a o linemen bc your QB got to have protection & they got what Slater few drafts back. Protect your QB & you can win & go far 👍🏻 plus they got Little Rice in the second round. I’m a cowboys fan but give this man 2 to 3 seasons & this team will be a top team in the AFC along with Jags bc I think each year Petersons will build a team around his talented QB & hopefully Cincinnati can do the same around Joe.. I’m ready to see new teams in the AFC make it to the SB lol Pats & KC been to many SB between the 2 😂 & even Steelers over the last 50 years 😂

You’re talking about Rice instead of McConkey? McConkey was the one you should be talking about 😂😂😂 he’s the white Garrett Wilson.

I’m not a chargers fan. But trust and believe his method of a successful football team. He thinks old school which is the way to be. You can have my Mahomes as qb, McCaffery as rb, Kelcie as TE chase, Jefferson and Adam’s. With the offensive line having all five starting. None of those weapons are going to be able to be used. Js

The fact you said Jerry Rice is ARGUABLY the greatest wide receiver of all time is insane. A receiver would need to average 78 receptions, 1145 yards, and 10 tds a year for TWENTY seasons to break his records

Harbaugh surprised nobody with any knowledge of him and his philosophies in football. EVERYONE was projecting o-line pick for the chargers and that’s what they went with.

I absolutely hated it! Took Brenden Rice. Like hello Chiefs do you really want to rely on Toney and Sky Moore again this year?? And out of the teams that HAD to get him it's the fing chargers. Oh you also took joe Alt who's from Kansas City and father played for KC. I hate ya

Arguably the best WR? Dude Jerry Rice is the GOAT because tell me what WR manage to take ANY of his career stats because last I checked Jerry still owns all the career stats for a WR. And as best athlete I think his HOF score also debunks that he was the greatest athlete with being the only player in the HOF to have a score over 300 (everyone else isn't even past 200).

Imagine drafting a WR in the first round when you’re a new coach after coming into the organization with so little cash that you have to let go of the every skill position player that meant something excluding anyone still on their rookie deal… that would be the most boneheaded decision one could make especially when he knows that it’s going to be a lot easier to win games with a healthy and consistent QB that’s able to read through all of his progressions rather than a QB who gets hurt/is trigger happy out of fear of being injured again. What good is Malik Nabers if Herbert can’t even get to his third read before he has to hurry up and make a decision? Not good for much. What is Joe Alt potentially good for? Holding the defense long enough that the play can develop long enough where Herbert is able to make the right decision on who to throw to (which the correct answer would be: the son of the one and only GOAT, rookie wide receiver out of USC Brenden Rice… don’t ask me how he slid all the way down there, just be thankful that he’s in the best position any late round or UDFA WR could be in.

Joe Alt has been mocked to the Chargers for months bro lol. Wasn't a surprise to anyone. Before Harbaugh even took the job, but even more so after he became HC. Great pick by them. Receiver pool was deep, and they got a great one in Ladd McConkey in the 2nd round, and I think they were happy as hell he was still on the board once they got to their 2nd round pick.

Like who Lamar Jackson that the Ravens passed on the fist time around for Hayden Hurst, lol. Look, I like Lamar and want to see him win one, but it takes a few season to build a strong O & D line, it ain’t going to happen in two seasons, plus they need an RB, TE, an a few WR, and when they get those in a few year Mack and Bosa are too old or done in LA, Herbert is the only young pro-bowler they have

Don't think ppl understand just how important Oline is.... You can get someone like Singletary or Zack Moss for next to nothing if u got a good Oline they will get the job done but as the NYG have shown even if u have a top3 rb they can't carry a bad Oline

The Chargers had a great draft & I am so goad they didn’t take Nabers so my Giants could pick him at 6. They just happened to draft Joe Alt who has strong blood lines as his Dad played in the NFL. He is about as a safe a pick & sure fire bet prospects as you can get as the draft is always risky. All these guys are good, but what usually sets them apart from those who fail or what separates the great from the good is who will put in the work & grind. You can’t get by just on talent like players did during high school & college. I think the Rams had a phenomenal draft too. Jim Harbaugh wanted to put his stamp on this team & he did just that with this draft.

Let's see you lost 2 top 20 wide receivers and currently have the worst receiving core in the league including tightened and runningbacks who receive.and you pick a right tackle because slater will be the left for 10 years this is Jim hardbaugh out smarting himself it was a terrible pick way worse then the penix Jr pick this is the worst top 10 pick for what your needs are since I started watching the draft back in 1998

It wasn’t his team, the majority of the players he had were from the previous coach, and when they got Kaperick the team turned around it had nothing to do with him, and I’ll text at the end of each of the next 4 seasons when he fails, not saying he can’t coach, he’s just not elite like you say, and I can’t argue with the puppy love you have for him, im just saying by the time they get everything together Hebert will be 30, and it’s more of a Chargers are a jinxed team like the Jets, something always happens to derail them, same as the Browns, Bills, and Falcons, but we’ll see, and I don’t hate the Chargers, I like them much better than the Patriots, and I need to see Harbaugh win before he gets any greatness praise, lol
