Same here. I scoured related content trying to find a way to get rid of these mysterious bumps on some clips I would not be able to reshoot. I never seemed to come across any tutorials showcasing this granular approach. I finally asked the Reddit community for help and someone sent me this link. Of course it ended up being a Mike Russell video, I should have known. A vast majority of the things I have learned in my current novice phase of editing have come from various Mike vids. Lesson learned: check Mike Russell's channel first to see if the topic I need is covered. Mike, you have a knack for teaching. Clear and articulate without bloated information or unnecessary content. The structure of your videos is so smooth and shows the forethought you have about your subject matter. So many tutorial videos are all over the place making seem as though the creators are just winging their thought processes as they record. Then there's the content creators who think it's a good idea to include background music to a video about audio editing. Making it impossible to pick up on the actual audio differences in their cleanup tutorials. Thanks for sharing your skills with such a high level of quality Mike.

Great video Mike! So helpful! I appreciate you sticking with just Audition for the de-clicks and not switching to another program to clear those. Is there a best method to remove super clicky audio for the whole recording without ruining the audio or removing most individually? I was playing around with the declick and it sounds overprocessed and still can hear the clicks. Thanks!!

Clicks, like most audio imperfections, are best removed at source. Try to avoid chocolate or dairy before recording and some say that eating an apple just before recording will reduce mouth clicks.

Thanks a lot for all your helpful videos, Mike. Whenever I have an audio issue or question, I find help on your channel. Since I found your videos, my audio has improved big time and my subscribers appreciate that just as much as I do! May I ask a question: if the wind is really high, I get some wind noise despite using small dead cats on lavalier microphones. After I remove that with hi-pass, the voice sounds A LITTLE like listening through a phone - I hope you get what I mean, it's just higher and not so warm. Do you have a method how to improve that after reducing the wind noise? Thanks again - keep going!
@MikeRussell3 жыл бұрын
I think the issue here is that the wind noise is more than just low rumble. Using the HP filter will cure the wind noise but in doing so you're also removing the lower frequencies in your voice which, once removed, you cannot add back. Perhaps look at the HP filter lower down, no higher than 120hz and a combination of that and De-noise or adaptive noise reduction.

Hi and thanks for your compliments. With regard to removing the noise I’d say if the tips in this video don’t help then you may well need to re-record I’m afraid. Noise reduction techniques are designed to reduce background noise but wouldn’t make much impact on substantial sounds without degrading the audio I’m afraid.

The only suggestions I have then are to try a different USB lead and a different USB port on your computer. In the event neither of these solves it it’s more than likely the mic itself as USB mics have both the microphone tech and the analogue to digital conversion tech housed within.

Would it be fair to say that the modifications you demonstrated eliminated noise, rumble and clicks but also created audio gaps that would sound unnatural or bizarre if you didn't move the good audio clips closer together or include some sort of audio bed such as music, voice overs etc to fill in the audio space?
@MikeRussell3 жыл бұрын
Noise reduction should always be a last resort. Any form of noise reduction, be it this technique or De-Noise, will reduce the quality of audio.

@MikeRussell3 жыл бұрын
Glad to have helped. While it's not necessary to have a quality mic and sound treatmenet to get into voice work if you want to pitch for the higher end (better paying) jobs you'll need an acoustically treated space and at least a mid-range mic to get through the auditions for jobs as a quality producer will be able to spot the post processing.

@darmaggi Жыл бұрын
I enjoyed your demo and the methods you used, especially with the spectral analysis on the old church recording, but what you treated in the middle section and were calling mouth clicks sounded an awful lot more like breathing noise. I'm chronically dehydrated because of medication, and my mouth "clicks" actually sound like clicks because of the high frequency and short duration, which all stems from a lack of saliva, and is very uniquely identifiable on the wave form, just as breathing noise also has a very specific and different pattern on the waveform.

Because i have tried to reduce it in the noise reduction process. It sounds like kind of unnatural/robotic! 😕

Unfortunately any noise reduction technique will have an impact on audio quality which is why it’s always recommended to remove the source of noise before recording. Thanks for this and all your other tutorials :) Out of curiosity, what’s a good way to reduce mouth clicks in a more general way/track-wide in Adobe Audition? Is it only spot fixing or is there some effect or post processing that you could apply to the entire track? I have the rode nt1a and it ... is good at picking up on those, despite pop filter, distance and a slight angle 😅 are the accusonos tools useful in that effort? I am more on the narrating than audio processing side, so... I’m a beginner with the software :)

Hi Kristina, try to avoid dairy before recording and also try eating an apple before you record. In terms of editing these there are plugins available, Audition also has a declicker but by far the most effective way to remove them is with the spot healing brush.

@@MikeRussell thank you. Of course. I must remember the SAVE option in the Effects windows. Pity the overridden print can't be restored though. Luckily, I ALWAYS copy to new my original audio files and work only with the "working" version ( a life saving tip I picked up from another Audition guru online :-) so if needed I can go back to the original and get what I have stuffed up :-) This is especially important as I always edit my files in Audio (including noise reduction) and only fine tune master in Multitrack. Thank you for posting so many very helpful Audition tutorials!😀👍

Hi, Mike. Thank you for the tutorial, amazing, best one so far. I have a question though, I have an hour long audio with lots and lots of mouth clicks. It would take me a lot of time to remove it with the brush. Is there an effect that would do similar brushing on the audio but automatic? I've literally tried everything, tried the deClicker but it makes my voice actually sound like it's crackling...

I'm afraid you'd have to go through and remove them. For future sessions try to avoid dairy before the session and some people say eating an apple can help reduce mouth sounds.

@@MikeRussell Thank you for taking the time to reply. I thought it wouldn't be possible. I'll definitely try the apple, don't eat much dairy products ;) Thank you again.
