I'm reading Lois (like Lois Lane) Bujold's original trilogy for that Penric book, the Chalion series. They're actually three related standalone books. Her forte is characters. She writes some of the best in the business. The Penric novellas are a series of I think 12 stories now featuring Penric and his wife fighting demons and traveling the land. They assume quite a bit of familiarity with the world and probably wouldn't be the best place to start. I'd recommend picking up the Curse of Chalion, the first book of the original series. It's a good story and a fairly quick read and I think it would give you a really good taste of what Bujold's writing is like.

Most of my bookmarks are actually advert cards that would get handed to me at the comic shop to promote crossover events with handy dandy checklists. I left most of my books at work but I know one is for one of Marvel's original Infinity events so been using it for 30 years or more. I don't think I bought any novels in October after September buying a number of used books. Graphic novel wise like September had a pretty big month. I picked up nine graphic novels. Saga released it's 10th volume! Conan and Grendel had omnibuses. Got some horror with an EC Comics Archive, We Are Demons (brought to us by Snyder and Capullo who some may know from their popular Batman run), and Hell is a Squared Circle. Some all ages stuff with vol 2 of Peter Porker Spider-Ham and Deadman Spooky Tales. Lastly the fourth volume of the latest Marvel Star Wars run.

Dandelion dynasty is great but is is demanding intellectually, as the world is so vivid and there is a lot to take in. Just to bear in mind that you might need some lighter reads alongside it. I wouldn't try it at the same time as a another demanding series (e.g. Malazan). I stopped reading it after the first few chapters as I realised I needed to wait until I had finished another complex series before going back to it.

Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the Dandelion Dynasty - lucky for me, the UK covers all amagolmate to one image when combined, which is pretty on the bookshelf.

Love the “Dandelion Dynasty” («Grace of Kings» is perhaps my favorite “Modern” Fantasy!), and “The Rise of the Dragon” and “The Children of Gods and Fighting Men” looks sweet and wicked! Currently enjoying “The Veiled Throne” by Ken Liu (#3 in «The Dandelion Dynasty»), “The Fortress of the Pearl” (#2 in M.Moorcock’s Elric Saga) and I will soon be finished with “Storm of Steel” by Matthew Harffy (#6 in the “Bernicia Chronicles”). Plan to start Tim Leach’s “A Winter War” (set during the Sarmatian-Roman Wars) this winter (fittingly), along with Adrian Selby’s “The Winter Road” Have also just ordered the Self-Published book “The Severing Son” by Vaughn Roycroft (which Professor Chase have compared to Papa Gwynne, so would love to hear your takes on it!) and the “Vindolanda” Trilogy by Adrian Goldsworthy. Hope to get to the “Warlord Chronicle” soon also!

Every Nevill novel takes an eventual (hard) nosedive imo, I rate them based on how long he manages to delay said nosedive 😃. The first 70% of Last Days creeped the living hell out of me, though. I haven't felt that kind of dread while reading a book since forever and I decided to read it during the daylight hours after the first three or four chapters. Highly recommended.
