Scuba Scooter Prototype- Mikes Inventions

mikesinventions.etsy.com I made a diver propulsion vehicle proof of concept about as simply as I could. Any you can too! It's made out of PVC pipe primarily just to test feasibility. It's powered by an old DeWalt 12v drill motor and 2 -4.5AH batteries. It's business end is a custom designed 3D printed yellow 8"-4Blade prop. Check it out!

Try using two motors going oposite ways, to stabiliize (not to turn around) in the water. Should also give it alot more power. Great design tho!

For sure a prop shroud will improve the props efficiency. You may be spilling quit a bit of the available thrust off of the ends (tips) of the blades. I’m digging deep into my memory here, but if you were turning that prop much faster a shroud would not be needed, the speed of the faster prop and the ability to move what’s it’s attached to will see the prop get pretty efficient at some point in in the throttle travel, however because this is being used to pull someone under water, it will not be able go physically move forward fast enough to achieve peak efficiency for that prop, nor does the prop spin fast enough to make up for that. By adding a shroud, you are ensuring the water next to the prop and the water being pushed by the prop can’t move to the sides and spill off in essence fanning the water beside the prop as much as it’s directing water behind it. If you leave everything the same and do timed trials/over distance before and after shrouding the prop it could be very instructive. Strangely the shroud may not increase speed drastically, you might just find you get a bit more battery life. Or you may achieve the max speed you get now when unshrouded with just partial throttle when shrouded. I love your design. It’s pretty fricking awesome.

Thanks! Well, there hasn't been yet. It's something I think about every day during the summers, but so many other things come up that keep me from getting to it. I'll certainly make a video once I build it, but by then, commercial variants might drop to a price I'm willing to pay. ;-)

NICE! what is thrust power and how long works with such batteries? Did you think about li-ion pack?

Thanks! So I didn’t measure the thrust, but it really was less than I wanted. This was a good enough proof of concept. I didn’t want to use lithium’s because I had no way to seal it well enough to make me certain it wouldn’t leak. I’ve got plans to make a better version. Thanks for watching
