Great Advice if anything move to the edge of town and only go occasionally to associate maybe a small percentage of the time as making friends with a Filipino is so much more fulfilling and be a part or at least try to understand the culture, language and customs,, When in Rome act like the Romans do not a boorish American clod as we are ALL representatives and Ambassador's and they may base their opinions based on interacting with you. like Mike Always says; "Leave them Better then when you arrived" and although he meant it about women it goes for ALL

I think anyone thinking on moving should definitely do a "trial run" first, spend at least a few months there. And if you don't have a Filipina GF/spouse/in laws, hopefully you can befriend a Filipino you can trust. Having a local show you around, explain things, find things, etc is worth more than their weight in gold, imo.

I am curious about the arrangements you made with family members to make the transition more smoothly and if you have a family member or two to assist you with USA issues when necessary and how you have set up regular family communication. I know for example anyone can video chat for free on so many different platforms. I agree not only with the medical testing but it is imperative that you bring copies of all of your medical records with you.

Mike, i had a Colonoscopy done while here at a small private hospital just over a year ago. I believe your going to be safe. This is a pretty basic procedure and the doctors here are quite capable. Don’t let that hold you back. It was easier here to do then my first one in the states. Good luck!

Take your DD214 for the ssrv. Also I think Dumaguete is going up in price due to more expats immigrating there. I think the prices are probably lower in smaller towns and less touristy spots but they might lack infrastructure like transportation and medical.

The price of land to build houses on in the Philippines depends on the island. In 2016 I bought land 8 acres on a hill overlooking the albay gulf cost for $2,500.00 dollars or 125,000 php outside of Manito 40 minutes by driving from Legazpi city. In 2017 my wife and I bought 1/4 of an acre on Samal Island in Garden City for $20,000.00 dollars or 1,000,000 php Why the big difference 🤔 because one is out in the province the other on a tourist destination. Supply and demand.

Thank you for a great video, Mike. I'm 52 now in small town middle America trying to set things up to pull the trigger and move overseas in 6-8 years. I just came home from the grocery store and 1 dozen eggs in my local grocery store cost me $3.98. 1 pound of Black Forest Ham was $10.14, and a half a pound of Colby Jack cheese was $6.64. Something that really surprised me because I haven't really kept track of it was bacon. 2.5 pounds of Wright's Hickory Smoked bacon was $17.98. I love bacon and eggs, and this was a shock when I realized how much I was paying. Thank you for the great content - I look forward to watching more of your videos.

I never really lived in the Philippines and only spend vacations there, but the only thing I regret is buying property that I could never own. Guys: no matter how much you love your Filipina or how much you think she loves you ... don't do it! Too many of us have done it and burned their arse! Go for rentals as they also guarantee your mobility!

@leonardmarlin4330
@leonardmarlin4330 Жыл бұрын
Apparently you've never bought land and built a house in the Philippines. My wife and I have three on different islands. She owns the land and the houses. 60% to my 40% I hold the 25 year lease on each house. I control what happens to the land and houses. Look it up by law my wife can't sell any of them without my permission or going to court to try and break our lease. Could she do that ? Maybe, maybe not. Going to cost a lot of $$😊

Why buy something you can’t own. Real estate in the U.S. is gold guys!! These love struck dudes have to prove there love and inevitably get burned. They have no control and lose leverage with their ladies. Rent here in the Phils. BUY in the states…you’ll get rich. I know first hand

Mike, I'm a year younger than you and trying to get my medical ducks in a row before my move to PH. I had my colonoscopy, had all my blood work done, my A1C is good but blood pressure was 140/90 so I'm on meds. EKG was good, but I would like a (CT) coronary angiogram just to check my heart. Above all else, have a plan A, B or C. I sold my house and two cars. Packed things I wanted to bring in two 70 pound UHaul boxes. Planned to use Frequent Flyer miles so Business Class makes life simpler. On a previous trip I bought a Condo which was planned only as a Summer Vacation unit. I lived in s Studio apartment for 8 years in Pattaya, Thailand. Most importantly, have several money sources or backup Credit cards. In the Philippines it takes several months to get a savings account. In Thailand, you only need to show your Tourist Visa. So know your visa requirements including any Covid related tests.

Two quick things that I wish I knew. I also brought more clothes than I could use in two life time. Also when setting up your Wise or Remitly acount they have extra levels. great vlog Mike. I was curious on the steps in transferring money and where to get it, and I liked the advise on what to bring and not to bring. there's so many unknowns that it makes my head spin. I've already been doing the medical check ups, have talked to my doctor and we are working together to get everything I need before I head over there in March. I'm already 73 and divorced, not planning on getting married again, and didn't consider getting my divorce papers. I just talked to T mobile about phones in the philippines, and they have a plan for international accts with unlimited service for about $70 per month plus a new phone upgrade. being i have to switch sim cards there, will I still have my old phone number for the states.

Congrats on your first anniversary of being together and on your upcoming wedding. First of all, a CD endorsement on a foreigner's drivers license is not transferable to Philippine drivers license. Only a Philippine citizen is allowed to have that endorsement. I would not suggest anyone drive a motorbike until they have been in the Philippines at the minimum of six months. It takes that long, if not more, to even begin to understand the murky waters of filipino driving habits. Because law enforcement doesn't enforce the rules of the road already in place (that's the case unless you are a foreigner), a first time experience at an intersection is like viewing a Chinese fire drill - one of utter chaos. It is best to put your life in the hands of an experienced filipino driver many, many times before venturing through the gauntlet alone. Believe me, it's not for the faint hearted. Patience coupled with being on high alert for potential problems are two things that can help in avoiding an accident which a foreiigner needs to avoid like the plague. I strongly suggest a divorced foreigner bring his divorce papers even though he is a confirmed batchelor. Do not under estimate the seductive powers of a determined, super attactive filapina and don't over estmate your ability to resist. She can have you under her spell in a New York minute. Don't get the cart before the horse. That is why it's so important to have at least six months' worth of boots on the round dedicated to understanding the culture; the filapino concept of time; the way local, municipal and national goverment operate before doing anything else. Spending time with expats at the ole waterhole can help in avoiding common mistakes. But leave the filapinas out of the picture until a clear plan is in place as to what needs to be done in order a to have a happy, heathy, and affordable life in the Philippines. Once some of the goals and objectives are set and met, a foreigner is free to cautiously start dating. If a foreigner so chooses to pick a partner or spouse, he can do so by selecting a filapina that understands his goals and is willing to help him pursue those goals. This is where the negotiating process kicks in. The foreigner, in return, must allow the filipina to express her goals and objectivies in life. If the two can reach a common ground then continue the relationship. If not, then they are free to go their separate ways - no harm no foul. The process of seeking another filapina starts over again. This a situation where I think filapino time is actually appropriate. Hinay hinay lang. Just go slowly, slowly. So much more to talk about. Maybe this topic can be revisited at another time.

I am thinking the same about a colonoscopy. I’m coming to PI at or before December. I recently had blood work done. I have a CT scan next week, a heart monitoring test and a knee scan. I’m building up the courage for a colonoscopy before arriving in PI. Ugh!

Does insurance pay for any of these things since they are "wellness checks"? Typically, insurance only pays when there's a known issue (chest pain, knee pain, headaches, etc) before they will approve. How did you get all these wellness pre-travel tests approved?
@brucejones8047
@brucejones8047 Жыл бұрын
@@napoleonmdusa8877 : I believe they are wellness checks. I have knee pain so that should be covered. The colonoscopy should be covered. As a former smoker, my annual chest X-ray should be covered. “SHOULD BE” is the pivotal phrase. After all is shaken out I'll probably have to pay something. I am just looking forward to getting all these things done. I desire a clear mind over in the PI’s. Kaiser performed these tests without cost in years last. I'm currently with SHARP medicare with a gap insurance plan. So.. We'll see🤔

You should definitely do it. It’s something most men don’t do u til things are already going wrong, or it’s too late. I’m in my mid30s, but since my father had rectal cancer and my maternal grandfather had colon cancer, I’ve been doing colonoscopies since I was 25. I asked my doctor to set up a 5year reminder in my records.

Balik bayan box. There are household movers (I used Atlas Van Lines) to arrange for my Balik Bayan boxes. Not cheap! Our 24” x 24” x 24” boxes used to cost $125USD, and took 30-45 days to reach the Philippines. Maybe Mike has better information on them?

I thought medical was very good and cheap in the Philippines. I would think most people have family in the US that I would hope have access to your account, records and other important documents. Prices are increasing everywhere around the world. Duma might see greater increases because there is a large expat community willing to pay higher prices which does have an influence. I was there in 2008. Living in Tanjay. I took $10k with me and that was more than enough for my 6 month trip. Prior to visiting the Philippines I traveled alot most of my life. This gave me some awareness for what I would need to get me by. Everyone who chooses to travel needs to take responsibility for themselves.

Can I ask a question or 2? You’ve been there for a year or more…. Are you able to drink the tap water like locals can ( I know you drink bottled water) but would you be able to if you wanted? For my own information when we move there …. also are you acclimated like a local… inasmuch as if it gets cooler then you have to wear long pants etc… like a local? I am trying to figure out how long it would take. E and my wife to acclimatize to those 2 things when we move there Thanks Mark

Once you marry Janet, will you still need to renew your Visa? I just got a colonoscopy at one of the best hospital in central FL. I came in at 8:30 am and was out by noon. Everything was all clear but was told to come back and have it done again in 5 years. I was told there is a 92% survival rate if cancer is caught yearly. Also, it takes 5 years for colon cancer to develop so once you are clear then you really do not have to worry for another 5 years.
