If flying out of US, you must declare amounts over $10000, you must declare BEFORE you leave the states. Then once you arrive in Philippines you must declare upon arrival. You MUST declare TWICE.

@@mikesphilippineretirement not entirely true. When you open a foreign account, yes there is a form the institution has to file to the US under the FATCA act however, it must be filed for ALL accounts regardless of amount deposited. It's the individual's responsibility to file FBAR every year if the amount exceeds $10000. Have been doing this since the act was instituted.

I came to the same conclusion about travel bags myself. Mine was thick Cordura nylon with a wire mesh inside to make it cut-proof. Well made, but I couldn’t find good ways to anchor it in hotels and Airbnbs. Hidden spots with pipes had flimsy PVC piping, easily pulled apart. Sturdier anchor points like radiators and stair railings left the bag visible out in plain sight and as you mentioned, these bags might as well have a sign on them saying “Steal me! Valuables inside!”

The thing I've always done when I travel is to take several thousand dollars in cash (the amount dependent upon how long I'll be traveling), a debit and credit card. Upon arrival to my destination I immediately start using a debit card to take out cash and stash the cash I brought with me in case I need it in an emergency. The worst thing for me is to blow through my cash first and then find I'm having a problem with my card(s).

Same here, I will usually bring about 6k USD all in 100 dollar bills, and like you I will start hitting them ATM machines which last time I was there would give me 10,000 peso per transaction and my schwabb account would let me draw a maximum of $1000 USD per day. That is the easy way to do it. My trips are usually just 30 days and make a couple per year.

Always put your bag infront of you when you have tons of cash in there and not in the back or side cuz the picpocketer are very fast to steal your cash and if you leave it in your luggage make sure that you have padlock on it. When you get money from your pocket make sure not to show your bundle of cash cuz it's a magnet for the pickpocketers and you cannot leave your bag in the table when you eat in any restaurant or fast food also make sure too that your bag attach to your body not let it loose in a chair and then you eat your food.

Hi 200% what you say I’m be coming to the Philippines over 20 times just holiday and I been doing what you say day or night I carry so money 1 pocket And over money the other and if I need to top up, I go to cr lol no one sees when you’re carrying. When I change big money, I have one of those money-belts that go around your belly and put my money straight into that to transport back. I’ve only been putting my money in the safe in my room but sometimes I lock some in my suitcase hidden I’ve never lost any. I have heard some people get a safety deposit box in a bank but I’m not sure about that one. Take it easy and keep up the good work 😊

However, recently I heard from a couple of other vloggers that if Schwab finds out that you are actually living in the Philippines, they will inform you that they will close your acct. I made a (sweatproof) "secret inside the pant" pocket, which attaches (with Velcro) to the inside of the waistband, and it can carry 100 - $100 U.S. notes (only 3/8" thick) undetectable. I'll carry my ID, credit/debit cards and larger amounts of cash in it, and only carry my phone and 20,000 Pesos (or less) in my front pockets. I'm not worried if I get robbed, as they'll just get the front pocket items, and even IF (some how) they manage to get my "secret money", it's no big deal, as I'm "loaded".....

You shouldn’t have to bring any money to the Philippines. Many US Banks allow you to do wire transfers from any computer both domestically and internationally. Wells Fargo even has remittances for only $4 for around a few thousand dollars. What you do need to do is set up a Philippine bank account. You will need an ACR card for that or be married to a Filipina. Even without a Philippine bank account, you can still send money western Union to yourself in the Philippines.

Great video. Question, do you ever worry about your safety with banks closing down like in silicone valley ? Or not being able to safely return home to your family in America as military tensions rise between China and Russia ? Many people say the Philippines will soon be invaded by China. I only ask because your videos are very inspirational, but should people take the physical and financial risks involved ? Thanks for your videos and insight. Peace.

Hi Mike, how's your grandmothers' retirement house business going on? How many grandmothers are you trying to "sell" to foreigners. Yes, I do understand - you must be really desperate. Good luck with your grandmothers retirement business. I really mean it - It is obvious to me, that you really need it to stay afloat financially. Good luck to you.

Hey Mike, since you have stayed at the Quest hotel, I have a couple of questions. I booked online and got 47 plus tax. If I am there at the hotel, would they give me a better price. I also noticed there are two Quests, Quest Hotel and Conference center and Quest Service residences(same spot?). What is the difference? Second questions, do you know if they have any restrictions if you bring a guest to the room? Thank you

If you bring 35k USD into Philippines and after you declare it, there is a chance someone will make a call to a friend and you maybe become a target once you step outside the doors of the airport for the rest of your trip, so be aware of that. Be smart and deposit it and get a Charles schwabb account and use debit card to withdraw, I would carry about 9K cash on your when entering so nobody knows.

There is absolute zero reason to hold that much cash in the philippines or open a bank account here. You are just asking for visibility to the government and tax authorities with no benefit to yourself.
